FG Says 3rd Mainland Bridge Is Safe For Public Use Despite Viral Video Showing Otherwise...

Following a trending video on a cracking joint on the popular Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the federal government on Sunday assured road users and motorists that the bridge is “still safe” for public use.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Engr. Adedamola Kuti, in a chat with Daily Trust declared that there is no cause for alarm.

A second video clip has been trending on the social media claiming a section of the bridge was cracking and that motorists should avoid the bridge and use the alternative routes to connect Lagos Island.

But the Controller said the part shown in the video formed the expansion joints in the bridge which were discovered during the inspection conducted last year.

He said, “The expansion joint is bad and we are about to fix it. All the materials for the maintenance work are already on their way to Nigeria”.

Kuti advised motorists not to entertain fear, saying the bridge is safe for public use.

*Looks really scary and i would use another route if i was you....Please ya all stay safe

  1. When I saw that woman's video ..I just laughed. Don't venture on things like that without proper knowledge. She can't even go to Ajakuta bridge which the gap is as big 25/30 cm . in bridge construction that is allowed for expansion and contraction . secondary physics.

  6. We entertain unnecessary fears in Nigeria. That is an expansion joint. Had there no expansion joint, there would be contraction therefore, there would be cracks on the bridge.

  7. Nothing wrong with the bridge. People need to be educated about it, bridges are meant to be contrasting not rigid. That's an expansion joints and serving a purpose in keeping the structure safe.
Nigerians need to stop this habit of talking about things they don't know, Just because they have phone to video and post on social media.

    2. Thank you. The main problem of the bridge is not even the surface but what holds it underneath. Na that one we suppose worry about. Btw, it has been fixed. And the fixing is just the same surface joints so that cars will not dip in the joints.
