NLC Says Kogi Workers Now Beg On The Streets Because Of Unpaid Salaries

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kogi State council on Thursday, lamented a situation where workers in Kogi State Civil service are now begging to feed their families as a result of the non payment of their monthly emoluments.

The Kogi State chairman of the Congress, Comrade Onuh Edoka, who stated this during the 7th quadrennial delegates’ conference in Lokoja, said that workers are owed between seven to 30 months salary arrears by the state government.

He appealed to the state government to do something urgent to reverse the negative trend, which he said has made it impossible for them to meet their obligations to their dependants.

In addition, the chairman regretted that workers are being owed their leave bonuses, while promotion carried out by the government were not being cash backed as such promotions only existed on papers. Worse still are the local government workers who are being paid ridiculous percentage salaries spanning several years.

The Ministry of Local Government has become a Government of its own.

Edoka therefore called on the Federal Government to release the balance of N30.8 billion bailout fund to enable the government to defray the salary arrears owed workers in the state.

    1. Is this how we are going to keep watching these people in government destroy us and our country? Countries are kicking out bad government and we Nigeria’s are just sitting down and doing nothing. Before anyone says I should lead the way, I led my own way with my family when I left Nigeria in 1990

  3. Almost three years pay??? So I guess once you are a governor there is no body or group that overseas your work to ensure you are doing a good job. How lacking in accountability Nigerian politicians are, and how complacent it's citizens are. Perhaps the way the government runs is that if it keeps the ppl hungry they will be too weak to fight back. All these kidnappers taking innocent ppl, but these theiving government officials they bypass. They need to grab who governs the state and do not release him until all state workers are paid up to date, plus one year in advance salary. Then when that is done give him a good whipping to reset his brain and release him. These government officials are mad on power, stark raving mad to deny workers their sustenance for years, not even a livable income in some instances and they still refuse them the pittance.

  4. The situation in kogi state is a very sad one. My sister and her husband are both civil servants, no salaries for months now. She is due for delivery in a few months after trying to conceive for 7 years. To feed is a problem, talk more of getting baby things. Mother is a retired civil servant who has not been paid her pension since November . Gov.Bello is so heartless and feels he is untouchable but God is not asleep

  8. Their woes in Kogi state dates back to the the eras of Governor Idris Ibrahim, to the next Captain Idris Wadda, to this Yahaya Bello. The people voted ouy Idris Wadda of the PDP with the hopes of getting a better government in APC, but it's still the same or worse. Well, they voted APC because of their man then, Abubarka Audu who died hours to his victory. Yahaya Bello was NEVER elected. He was never their choice, but was imposed on them. In a more sane society where people voted for candidates and not parties, the election should have been cancelled and another election done. But this is Nigeria. The people from that region are really suffering.

  12. Come how do people keep going to an office they don't pay them. If I don't get paid for 3months straight its for me to resign and look for work elsewhere.
The time you are wasting going to that office daily, even if its small biz you are doing while job hunting, its better than wasting my fuel daily to an office for 30mths, thats 2and half yrs.
