President Buhari Replies Bishop Mamza Statement That He Is Sleeping On Duty

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as unfair the comment by the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Rt. Rev. Fr. Stephen Mamza that he was “sleeping on duty as Commander-in-Chief.”

Buhari spoke through Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.

The presidential aide observed that it was unbecoming of a religious leader, like Mamza, to engage ”in an action that broke the old tradition of staying above politics”.

He said: ”In an action that broke the old tradition of staying above politics, the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Rt. Rev. Fr. Stephen Mamza delivered a homily in which he spoke angrily against President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as ‘sleeping on duty as Commander-in-Chief.’

”This is not a fair comment.

”There is so much that has changed in the past three to four years in and around Yola, and the Catholic Church in particular that a true assessment would show that but for the Change Administration of President Buhari, things would have continued the way they were, or even get worse. These could not have happened if a Commander-in- Chief was asleep.”

  1. Why is Buhari always speaking from someone? Why can he never address us directly?

    1. He does on special occasions. Wait for May 29th and October the 1st. Meanwhile the SSA on media and publicity is paid to do the job. Imagine the president responding to everything said by himself.
Anyway thank God this is subtle because other responses were cringe worthy. I just wish they wouldn’t respond to everything and if they must, stop being defensive and borderline aggressive.

  4. In a transparent country, the old man wouldn't have rigged his way into office for a second term going by his abysmal performance in the first tenure.

INEC chairman lied that results weren't collated electronically but 13 of his Presiding Officers (POs) in Borno and Yobe are saying they forwarded results on the INEC data base, and are willing to testify for Atiku that they did. They went further to say, that INEC trained all POs to do same across the federation. So why is INEC chairman lying about it? So what happened to the money budgeted for its website if they are lying about using the site.

Do you now see Atiku was right and had won that election? If a chairman like INEC can lie to cover their atrocities, them Nigeria redemption is far from accomplishment.

  6. So when Father Mbaka hailed him, he was welcomed and celebrated at Aso Rock
The Christian Association of Nigeria came to congratulate him, he welcomed and dinned with them
But when he is criticized truthfully, religious leaders becomes "above politics?"
Is this not the definition of hypocrisy?

    1. Don't mind them. Why didn't Garbage sorry Garba Shehu caution Mbaka that he is meddling in politics when he sang the praises of the incompetent one? Very hypocritical people on planet earth.
