Heavy Security Prevents #RevolutionNow Protesters At Lagos Stadium

Heavily armed security operatives from the Police Command in Lagos, the Army and the NSCDC, have barricaded the entrance to the National Stadium, Surulere ahead of the RevolutionNow protest spearheaded by Omoyele Sowore on Monday.

NAN reports that police patrol vehicles, including that of the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS), numbering more than 20, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), anti-riot operatives, Civil defence men and military joint Taskforce operatives OP MESSA, were stationed at the two main entrance to the stadium.

As at 8.40am, few protesters, wearing orange caps, had started to converge under the stadium bridge, displaying neither banner nor placards.

NAN further observed that the security operatives prevented employees of National Stadium, Students of National Institute for Sports (NIS) and members of the public who had come to train, from gaining access into the stadium.

A source told NAN reporters to leave the area as at 8.50am because the operatives were ready to tear-gas the protesters any moment.

The Area Commander, Area C, ACP Tijani Fatai, told NAN that the operatives were on ground to stop any form of protests at the stadium.

Fatai explained that they were not there to give security cover to protesters and advised the crowd already gathering in front of the National Stadium gate to stay away.

The DCP, Operations in Lagos State command, Mr Mohammed Ali, told NAN in a telephone conversation, that the protesters failed to obtain the necessary permit to carry out the planned protest.

“Their planned protest is unlawful. They did not obtain permission for the protest. If they say they have the permission, let them show it. Any one that foment trouble will be dealt with according to law,” Ali said.

    2. Eesah, First and foremost, l am glad you are one of those DSS people. You are a very mean spirited person. Why would you wish Sowore to languish in Jail longer than ElZazaky? You think your PMB, will rule forever? Sowore left a civilized society to come home to organize a protest. He didn’t kill anyone.
It was tagged a revolution. Does Sowore have arms and ammunition to topple this regime? What is your dada afraid of?? This right here, is the reason why a lot of Nigerians will remain in the diaspora. You act as if this regime is perfect. Continue!

    3. @EEsah, my people perish for lack of knowledge.

All these your DSS why didn't they go to Sambisa forest? Why didn't they arrest Fulani herdsmen?

Nonsense people. God will punish them

  3. Unbelievable... What arrant nonsense. Nigerians owed it to Jonathan to apologize for the humiliation, insults and abuse thrown at him compare to what they have seen under this integrity fraud.

Now you see there's no freedom of protest in Nigeria. Deji did his and was arrested, Tuface wanted to try his but was threatened with arrest. Now it's Sowore being incarcerated. That police spokesman talking about protest permit is very stupid. Would the police have given them permit if they had apply?

This is why I love the IPOB guys. They don't need permit to rally round the states and always go in crowd and have always remain formidable. Until Nigerians become brave, they can't challenge the oppressors.

It’s not a protest, it’s a revolution. No government is going to grant you a permit to embark on a revolution. Nigerians do not have the balls to revolt..

    2. Revolution without guns? I think you got it wrong dear. I feel they used the wrong word here. You don't announce revolution but secretly carry it out. The organizers may have used the word revolution to connote change in this useless government. If at all there's going to be a revolution, I don't think it will be announced. Do they announce coup before carrying it out?

    7. Teejay you don't know the meaning of revolution, if you do you will understand no reasonable government will fold its hand and watch the destruction. Teejay you are obviously pained Jonathan lost in 2015, possibly you are part of those that looted the country due to his careless.

  4. The only issue here with Sowore’s arrest, is the term revolution. The government was too quick to arrest him. Where are the tanks and everything else needed to carry out a revolution? The regime has everything. Sowore only meant Protest. Was not this same Nigeria that there were mass protests under Jonathan?

    1. He should have chosen the right word and he will be ignored. Atiku knows he has failed in court so the agitation and sponsoring of the revolution now.

    2. there is nothing like choosing the right word here. a revolution could mean a forceful overthrow of govt or a fundamental change or reversal of conditions. they never said it was going to be armed, it was meant and was scheduled to be peaceful protest and resisting govt policies etc...sorry but this government does not practice democracy. all they needed to do was make sure there was armed presence at the protest marches to check any violence which we heard of none..they know alot of Nigerians are unhappy with the state of affairs in the country and there only defence is to attack...that revolution they think they are preventing will soon happen violently cos tempers are rising and alot of people are unhappy
