Igbos Need To Change Their Character And Society

This is a must read...............

Let me make generalizations about Igbos knowing that there are exceptions. Igbos are motivated to achieve something big in their lives. They do not want to achieve it for the good of society but for their ego glorification.

Each Igbo, with a few exceptions, of course, wants to be the number one person in society. He works hard to make it big and become the Numero Uno of his small pond.
Generally, he works his way to obtaining what he considers good education, say, masters or even doctorate degree. Now he has made it. He does not understand that doctorate in anything means dedicating one’s life to that field of studies and working ones ass off to make seminal contributions to it. No, he is satisfied with just being called Doctor so and so.

If he finds his lazy self a teacher at a university, generally, he uses the notes that he made at graduate school to teach and does not really do original research and contribute anything new to the field (I am still to hear one Igbo who has made a contribution to the fields I am interested in: philosophy, psychology and physics). These people satisfy themselves with being called Professor, Doctor this or that and that swells their little heads and that is all that life means to them. They kind of think that every person around them should bow down and worship them.

If the Igbo man has a job in the public sector, say, is a legislator or governor he actually believes that it makes him a very important person. He masquerades around as a very important person. The idea of using public position to serve the people is not part of his psychology. He wants to be worshipped as a person in a prestigious position.

These days he has added the disease of corruption to his behavior repertoire. I do not believe that the Igbos of my father’s generation stole or were corrupt. But the Igbos of today are as corrupt as other Nigerians. They see public offices as avenue from which they enrich themselves.
Igbo governors literally redirect their states revenue to their personal pockets. They do it with impunity. It is as if occupying public office is approved means for stealing and that is all there is to their offices.

Imo state does not have one single factory in it and yet it has had governors who redirected the monies of the state to their personal pockets.
Okpabi Asika (that garbage actually went to my Alma Matta, UCLA, although he did not complete his PhD) is said to have said: “Onye ube rurula ya rarama”.
Since the end of the Nigerian civil war, many Igbos have become criminals.
Igbo culture accepts people conditionally. You have to achieve something big for Igbos to see you as an important person; in the past it was education but these days it is making money before Igbos accept you as a valuable member of their pathological society. A society is healthy if it accepts people in an unconditionally positive manner; that is, loves all people.
Igbos try to become rich by any means necessary if they seek their society’s approval. It does not matter how they make that money.

These days it often means selling drugs all over the world; it also means engaging in 419 scams relieving Americans and Europeans of their hard earned money.
As an aside, I am surprised that Americans have not stopped giving Igbos visas; if I were them I would have stopped allowing them into America; one should not allow thieves to come to ones house to rob one down…Donald Trump please stop Nigerians from coming to the USA, if you allow them they are going to rob it down, and transform it to the criminal haven that is Nigeria.

Igbo culture contributes to the Igbo aspiration to make it big by any means necessary. Igbos do not fight for public good but only for their personal pockets.
Let me ask: is there a leader in today’s Igbo land, a person who fights for public good and is not sidetracked by the need to make money? I do not see even one single leader in Igbo land today; I see those dedicated to serving mammon, not those serving their people.

These criminal Igbos call themselves Republicans and understand that to mean that each Igbo is on his own and makes it or dies and do not have to care for other people.
If this primitive political ideology is not corrected with incorporation of social service, I have no doubt that those who could not make it in Igbo land would feel left behind by their fellow Igbos and would resort to criminal activity. They would steal, kidnap their people and hold them hostage until ransom money is paid them. They are already doing so, are they not?

Why have compassion for your fellow Igbos if they did not have compassion for you when you were a child? If they had compassion for you, why didn’t they structure society so that all Igbos have access to publicly paid education through university, why not give all Igbo children publicly paid health insurance?
If you leave children to fend for themselves those who did not make it would have no reason to have compassion for you and not mind stealing from you or killing you.

I noted in my writing that Biafra land would be a land where people are always at war, kind of like Thomas Hobbes state of nature where all are at war with all, and life is nasty, brutish and short; all people live in general insecurity; there are criminals everywhere stealing and killing people. Is that not already the state of Alaigbo?

Is anyone in doubt that given another opportunity Igbos would gladly resume capturing and selling their people into slavery?
They did not even fight to stop slavery in their land; in the past they went about capturing and selling their people without the slightest sense that what they were doing was wrong.

If the white man removed his international laws prohibiting slavery, I am convinced that Igbos would gladly capture and sell their people into slavery provided that they make money.

Only God knows why they love money so much. Consider that you use money to buy food and eat and then die and worms eat your body. If so one ought to do what is loving to one’s fellow human beings.
In independent Igbo land I see a jungle dictator fancying himself the maximum leader and trying to tell every person what to do, arresting and jailing those who disagree with him. I see a jungle dictatorship where the tin can dictator tries to oppress people and people fighting back and the result is perpetual conflict in Igbo land.

Igbos, for all their talk of Igbo patriotism, do not really have a strong sense of Igbo nationality. Igbos identify with their clans, such as Owerri, Onitsha, Enugu, Ngwa, Umuahia, Orlu, Ikwerri, Asaba, Agbo, Okigwe. Each of these groups wants to dominate others; the result would be intratribal wars. Igbo land would be like Somalia where all the people speak Somali but divide themselves into clans and fight each other for power and control.

Before the white man came to Igbo land, Igbos lacked leadership skills, for not one Igbo rose to high leadership level and used force to unify all Igbos into one Igbo nation-state. They should thank the British for bringing them together, such as it is!

They should also thank the British for giving them writing, albeit in English; before the English came Igbos, like most Africans, did not develop writing or the wheel, the basic instruments for civilization. But instead of gratitude to the British they curse them out!

In England, France, Germany etc. generally, one man or a few men used military force to unify their people into one nation-state. Igbos did not do that.
Instead, Igbos had only Igbo village pseudo democracy without allegiance to a larger Igbo polity. Thus, Igbos are fragmented into clans and do not have allegiance to Igbo land as a whole. I see contemporary Igbos returning to their traditional ethnic cleavages.

Igbos have many issues and need to start working on them and stop making noise about being the most accomplished group in Africa. They must stop boasting too much, talking about how they are better than other Nigerians. I do not know the Nigerians that they are talking about. They are certainly not better than Yorubas, Edos and Ijaws, the Nigerians that I know very well.

Simply put, people are people everywhere and Igbos should stop their infantile tendency to bragging about their phantom superiority. Yes, Igbos do work hard but it is mostly for individual good not for public good.
Igbos ought to start developing social conscience and stop stealing too much, they should stop stealing from other people and believing that it does not matter that they did so.

If they keep stealing from Americans I encourage Americans to stop all of them from coming to America, for one should not bring a maggot into ones house.
If you choose to be an anti-social personality disordered person, a sociopath and psychopath who has no social conscience, and do not feel guilt and remorse when you hurt other people, folks should keep you out of their countries and work places and not hire you to work for them.

One cannot be sentimental in dealing with criminals for they understand only the language of force, so punish them, send them to prisons, and do not listen to their rationalizations, their unending excuses as to why they stole from folks. Criminals always blame other persons for their antisocial behaviors.
Igbos and other Africans, as criminals, captured and sold their people to Romans, Arabs and Europeans.

For two thousand years all they did was sell their people. But instead of accepting that they made a mistake they blame those they sold their people to, white folks. This is criminal pattern of thinking at work. Since they have not regretted their criminal behavior you know that given another opportunity they would resume selling their people into slavery.
I say pack criminal folks into prisons and let them rot there; don’t even feed them well; let them starve to death (we should bring back capital punishment and kill these criminals; we should have no mercy for them for they have no mercy for people).

Finally, for Igbos pondering, I append the FBI list of arrested Igbos for scamming Americans. That ought to teach Igbos to stop celebrating those who stole money to become rich; they ought to start asking their people how they became rich.

It is incredible that one African tribe is committing this much crime in the USA. No wonder they have turned their neck of the woods into kidnappers’ haven where folks can only move around with security guards.
And I saw all these coming a long time ago and wrote about it. And they called me insulting names for telling them their truth and what are in the cards for them!

Apparently, they would rather you closed your eyes to their socially untoward behaviors and if you must speak collude with their neurotic desire to be seen as superior human beings and tell them that lie.
All people, black and white, man and woman are equal; love them all and do not steal from any of them.

  1. Oga I don't really care for the gibberish you wrote up there. The only thing that caught my attention is the fact that you said all igbos and Nigeria should be denied a US visa, and yet you attended UCLA. You got a visa to go right? I feel like cussing you out, but I'll hold my fingers.

We that are HOME know the tribes that exhibit the trash up there. But this efulefu wants to trend so badly by bringing himself down for others to accept him.

I am Igbo but I agree with most parts of this article, the average Igbo man builds his world around this saying“Onye ube rurula ya rarama”that is why as a transporter he doesn't mind doubling or tripling tfare during Xmas because it is his time,as a trader he doesn't mind selling fake drugs even when people die from it.I wish Biafra will be given to us for just two weeks so that the world will sit back and laugh at us.

    2. This writer might be Igbo but he doesn't know the positive contributions of the Igbos in Nigeria. Perhaps I a non Igbo should school him on some:

Prof. Chinua Achebe, the author of the most widely accepted and translated African book I know, is Igbo.

Innoson vehicle manufacturing (IVM) the first indigenous vehicle manufacturer in West Africa is an Igbo man.
Permit me to say, if he were to be a northerner or a Westerner, his name would be on the national budget and no one would dare question it.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, the renowned writer who was recently awarded an honourary doctorate degree from Havard. The lady singlehandedly made Hilary Clinton, the former presidential candidate of the United States, change her social media profile.
      She is Igbo!

Prof. Chike Obi, world renowned mathematician is Igbo.

On this blog, I read a fact about a young lady Miss Okolo I guess who is doing exploits in NASA, and she is Igbo!

During the Nigerian civil war, from what I read, when the Igbos couldn't get arms and ammunition supplied across to them, they resorted to manufacturing their own!

Igbos are breaking grounds the world over and I mean in every field! As a matter of fact, the Igbos are the most successful people in Nigeria that made their money without government support or assistance of any kind!

Please Mr writer, tell me of any northern billionaire who made his wealth outside of the government. Also, show me any ethnic group in Nigeria who have achieved better and wider than the Igbos in whatever field!

He graduated with Ph.D from UCLA, remained unemployed for years and had to move to Alaska doing menial jobs while masquerading as the President of non-existent African Institute Seattle. How can he live in Alaska and be a President of a company in Seattle? LOL. What has he achieved with his education? His only know job is working at a Community Mental Health Center in Oregon. A man said that cursed his parents at death and gloated that he never helped them. Is that a man? Mr. Osuji should tell us his town in Imo State first before we take him serious. In many listservs, he has been called efulefu (useless man) of the highest order. More than 40 years in US, the only achievement he has was graduating with Ph.D in UCLA and still remains unemployed. How many books has he written. I believe he stares in the mirror and writes about the man he is looking at. 6. Thanks Teejay.
@ 9:17, I am not happy with the way Nigerians are seen, our problem as a nation emanates from our problem as people, individuals. There is always one negative thing each tribe is known for - rituals, yahoo, prostitution, infidelity, genocides, nepotism, etc. We should speak up against ALL these things. We shouldn’t descend to a level where we are saying ‘your negatives are worse than that of the other person/tribe’ it’s friutless, and that’s what this write-up is saying. Someone will think that Nigeria’s problem is as a result of Igbos (thank God we haven’t been president yet) but that is false. What of the Igbos that have put Nigeria is good light, that have contributed their quota to national service? Dora Akunyili was almost assassinated because of her service, what of the likes of Soludo, Ezekwesili, Iweala that made meaningful contributions to the country at a national level, and this mentions just a few, very few. Do you know the corruption that occurs at customs? Who heads the customs?
Let’s shun the temptation to excuse the negatives that are ‘better’ than others, that doesn’t make for nation building.
I agree that as a people we should exhort ourselves to embrace the better path, rid our society of traditions that fuel these negative behavior; but you don’t do that by blatantly disrespecting and insulting your own with terrible sweeping generalizations, you do that by objectively identifying the core issues and speaking against them.
He lacks the ability to carry out the critical thinking required for this, so he should seal his lips.

Kidnapping started in the S.S as a protest but gradually spread to other parts. Currently the North is the hub. But since he hasn't been around he obviously doesn't know that S.S are not Igbos. No wonder he can't contribute intellectually to his field of study. Poor research skills doc.

  17. This must be one of the silliest thing that I have ever read by someone who calls himself an intellectual!
    Ridiculous!
Are there Igbos who are criminals? Yes
    Are all criminals Igbo? No
Reading this low quality argument is disrespectful to my uncle who had to finish up in the UKs as one of the first igbo medical doctors, and came back during colonial times, when we actually had a healthcare system.
It is disrespectful to my Igbo uncles who went to universities in the 1940s in the US and suffered because blacks were still being heavily discriminated, but still achieved great success academically and left their mark not just in nigeria, but around the world.
It is disrespectful to my dad, who was one of the beneficiaries of the Fed govt scholarships in the 70s, finished his PhD and like many of his time, ran home to Nigeria, leaving great jobs, because they had hope in our country Nigeria. Never mind the fact that they were FORCED into a war, had to be out of school for almost 4 years, drafted to fight in the war front, lost possessions, and family members drop like flies due to the excessant bombings.
Clearly Dr Osuji does not understand history well enough. Note, I googled him and saw his PhD affixed behind his name, and being an academic, I will accord him that respect.
If he understood history, he would realize that the ethnic groups Igbo, Yoruba etc, did not exist prior to the white man coming to what is now known as Nigeria. He would also know there was something known as Nsibidi. He would also know that people the great warrior Eze Okoli Ijoma of Ndi Ikelionwu were leaders of Omenuko Court and fought hard to stop the white man from penetrating into the hinterlands. He killed himself when those around him gave up, so they would never rule his people, with him alive.
I can go on and on because all this article does is foster emotional dissent, which is awkward coming from someone who appears to be well educated.
Dr Osuji and I live in the US and the US is full of mass shooters and serial killers. It’s almost a daily occurrence it seems. But are ALL Americans mass shooters and serial killers? Obviously not!
What is in fact obvious is that Dr Osuji wants to gain some game or notoriety, but sadly this is where it will end, or maybe as one of those many random whatsapp that we delete as soon as we receive them.

People just don't come online anonymously to make claims without proof. Who are you?, who is your father and who are your uncles in the UK and US that you mentioned, if they have achieved what you say they have achieved you should be proud to mention their names.

Until you backup your statement with names and references, your comment is just full of claims and nothing more.

Ozodiobi osuji, from what I gather from your write up you're an angry igbo man who has an axe to grind either with your immediate family, community or some Igbo persons who perhaps refused to help you. All this trash you wrotea is a Nigerian thing and not an Igbo issue. I guess the Yoruba's being arrested in UK, Australia and other countries for fraud and scam are Igbo by nature but bear Yoruba names, or the western/northern Muslims arrested in Saudi for drug trafficking are spiritual Igbo's. Gandollar the kano state governor caught on camera collecting bribe is Igbo abi? Or thiefnubu that has robbed Lagos blind is also Igbo? I guess boko haram is igbo too? So only Igbo's partook in slave trade, yet we trace slave trade to the south south and south west. Mr osuji go and sort out your personal demons and stop blaming the Igbo race for your misfortune. Yoruba's even in USA have been jailed severally for scam, go and investigate. Nigeria as a whole, east, west, north and south is CORRUPT.

    2. He did not say Igbo people are the only one that commits fraud or crime, we all know there is crime in every single country in this world. What he is saying is much deeper than you can ever understand so there is no point in even trying to explain it to you because Igbos just dont get it.

    3. Ebby4me please make your arguments with intelligent points rather than emulate the writer of the questionable posts above. Slave trade in the southern region stated at certain riverine communities but when it came east, the igbos took over and shut the southerners out and with the same entrepreneurial spirit proudly attributed to the igbos, they excelled in it.

The trade in human in igbo land was so intense that there was a cult with a fearful deity assigned to it daring anyone to defy their quest to make money through the trade. Yes, some igbos eventually stood up against these atrocities but the deed was perpetuated by igbos. While I feel that the call out in this article is unfair as I know and have worked with a lot of igbos whose strength of character remains unquestionable in my sight, I feel that there has to be a change in our attitude towards wealth.

We need to learn to be profitable from the Igbos, we need to learn eloquence from the Yorubas, we need to learn about communal leaving from the northerners, we need to learn hospitality from the ijaws...my point is, instead of highlighting the flaws of others, or taking on the victim mentality when we are called out for wrongdoing, how about we focus on the problem and proffer solutions?

Like it or not, the FBI called it a Nigerian scam...not an igbo scam. It us our names that have been dragged through the mud. We are beautifully different and we need to embrace this.

      Delete
    4. Exactly....@17:05 your 3rd paragraph is everything. Dont take a good quality you are known for and turn it into a conquest for power and say it makes you better or stronger or feared.

Every tribe has their strong points that we can learn a thing or two from. E.g. people call out women from my part of the country (CRS-AKS) as husband snatchers. It is said that once your man falls in love with someone from there, he is gone for for good. We dont argue. They also say our food is good, we say thank you. They say our men are lazy and like sex too much and will rather hump from morning till night than hustle. We dont argue. (That was why many of us were upset with Kemen and TTT in BBN that year. It was obvious they were projecting us as pussy hunters). Is this true for all of us? No! But imagine how stupid I will look if I go around bragging that people are afraid of me being around their boyfriend because I have the vaginal power to snatch men. Does that even make sense to a literate person?

The quest to feel superior to other people is exhausting and the victim role play is old. Accept who you are - both good and bad and do well your to be the best versions of your(individual)self - REGARDLESS of your tribe.

Tell me a single moral deficiency trait you listed that any Nigerian ethnic group isn't guilty of. I think I will stop writing here because it is evident an Igbo did not write this trash. One thing I will point out is,if one's home is facing an attack better to accept it and face it head on and not look for others to blame it on.
I will give an example. We all know at a point Edo state was known for human trafficking to Europe, prostitution to Italy etc. It was very rampant there for whatever reason. Instead of their people feeling other tribes were against them they accepted they indeed had a problem in their society and the gov't back then through Governors wife Eki Igbenedion set up different outreach programmes against trafficking, prostitution. Different campaigns back then to warn young ladies about it and rehabilitating the returnees and setting them up in business, even Oba of Benin got involved. The sooner the better igbo elders come together and accept there is indeed a fire burning in their compound with the mentality of a lot of youths with this get rich or die trying mentality the better for the society. They need to stop celebrating criminality in the society. You can imagine the likes of Bishop being celebrated. Alot of work needs to be done. But the first step into fixing a problem is actually accepting that indeed there is a problem. And not blaming others for it or using the excuse that afterall other tribes are also criminals.

If by your comment you mean that write-up is a true picture of Igbos, then you are very mistaken.

As to the matter of Igbos helping each other, we do that well. One man comes to Lagos or even abroad and starts bringing his people one after the other. As a wealthy man, you can’t even talk in your umunna if you can’t point to someone you raised. Or is it how the family gathers together to get a wife for the brother who is useless and establishes that wife, even trains their children to cover family shame because it’s the brother of a mad man that feels shame
Slave trade wasn’t even common in Igbo land. It was the Kosokos of this world that sold their people.
The igbos operated a democratic government where elders representing families deliberated on issues. We had our laws and followed them but we respected the right of every man to be king in his home.
We value achievement but who doesn’t, even the Bible says ‘even the brother of the poor to hate him. The rich hath many friends but the poor even when he pleads with his friends they run from him. The rich rules over the poor’

This is true, because there are some families in my mothers village who are said to be slaves that have naturalized. How? They are originally igbos, who were considered slaves in their hometowns and escaped to run for cover through Abakaliki. they settled in small villages such as that to hide from their masters. And my people accepted them and even married them.

This is one reason why my forefathers never really liked igbos. They were astonished at how one can sell their own into slavery amongst themselves.

My people fought against Biafra oh! Cos they were like, if they can do this to their own who are we?

You cant tell my grandmother nothing!
Biafra soldiers crept up on us at night and started beheading farm owners (we are predominantly farmers and the rich ones owned huge plantations. In fact, that is the reason why some plantations are dead till today cos the owners were beheaded) and inheriting all their property, wives and children; under one month that we foolishly agreed to Biafra. They couldnt even pretend small. They wanted to subdue us after promising heaven and Earth if we join them to fight Nigeria. The same rubbish Nnamdi Kani was coming with. He thinks we are still as gullible as we used to be. The deception back then was epic!! Na so awon boys enter bush tracks go give Nigerian army full expo on their activities. Imagine that that was their plan for smaller tribes under Biafra.

Dont tell my grandma nothing about an Igbo man she no go gree. To her that is the typical igbo man. You wont believe that in this day and age, someone still told me that when Biafra comes we will serve the igbos..this is a man in his 50s who seems exposed by Nigerian standard. 5. @Chikito you know your history. This is why Igbos hate Yorubas so much because they refused to join them to fight Nigeria. Infact yoruba people refused to be their ally in any way hence all the coward and traitor abuse towards them. They just can't let go of the fact that Yorubas have their own plan for their race and that plan does not include in any way delusion of grandeur.
You can't open your eyes and put your hand in fire, even with your eyes closed you will still get burnt.
I actually think the man who wrote this article is brave to damn the consequences and say the things a lot of Igbos already know about themselves but are not brave enough to say it for fear of abuse and retribution from their people.

      E really dey dem body..

    6. ‘Total disregard for our kinsmen’, not exactly.
In summary, when people committed a crime in the olden days and wanted to escape the resulting punishment, esp if the punishment was death, they ran to a shrine and threw themselves at it for protection. Once the offender does this, whoever is chasing them stops, no one touches them, because they are then seen as ‘the god’s Property’. But then the resulting reaction is that they still punished them by not interacting with them AND THEIR GENERATIONS. This act of shunning the offender made them feel ostracized and they usually left that vicinity for a place where no one knew their stories.
While I personally feel this punishment was adequate for someone who committed a crime and tried to runaway from the punishment by going to a shrine for protection, extending this to their generation is unjust in my view and I believe that is why people are calling for the abolition of this practice as all the original offenders must have been long gone.
That aside, the Biafra war is a potpourri of stories. I can never be convinced that one of the objectives of the war was to strip port Harcourt indigenes or other Biafran tribes of their properties, but I can believe that miscreants could have hijacked the whole process for their own selfish gains. Either way, I believe that the Igbo as a whole was severely punished for the war, both by way of death of their people, to the stripping of their properties outside Biafra, including port harcourt, reducing their assets to 20 pounds, political insignificance, etc. like they say, all is fair in love and war. Recall that tales told by people who didn’t participate in the decision making are not necessarily free of untruths, even if the action was true, because they saw that, the reason may not be, just saying that in a chaotic situation, facts get jumbled up.
@6:14, when you say that is the reason Igbos hate yorubas, it’s funny. If there is hatred going on, I am sure it’s because of more recent happenings in our everyday life, not a war that a greater part of this generation didn’t partake in.

If only this man has been around his home town to see the great strides that we are making, instead of remaining in his utopian enclave and just read about the hateful things other people say about the Igbo man and then accept them to be so, may be he will understand better. Brother please visit home it is important before get completely lost in a foreign land.

  38. Let me make generalizations about Igbos knowing that there are exceptions. Igbos are motivated to achieve something big in their lives. They do not want to achieve it for the good of society but for their ego glorification.

  39. From the little I read, everything that man wrote about can apply to other tribes as well. Even in the UK, there is fire on the mountain due to Brexit which has split the country in half. Abeg, ignore the crap and focus on being a unified Nigeria, so we can get rid of the corrupt leaders who refuse to do the right thing.

  40. Enter your comment...well from the comment section...the igbo simply believes he can make it any where he finds himself, doesn't accept excuses for his failure. so if you think that makes him see himself as better than other ethnic groups, then certainly that is the reason why other tribes will continue hating on igbo man.

    1. In the whole of Nigeria you think the Igbo man is the only one with that belief?, no other man of a different tribe has that belief only Igbos?, you really need to stop thinking you are special, you are not more special than any other tribe in Nigeria.

  41. He was abit harsh in some aspects, because some of the qualities he listed exist in other tribes. Every tribe has good and bad qualities, I can say so for mine too.

I grew up in Lagos and mingled with Yorubas and Igbos alot. I've never really lived with Hausas, so cant say much about them. But as someone who has had alot of igbo friends, I can say a few things are true for most of them:
    1. They are very competitive. Even when you think they aren't competing, they are.
Yoruba are usually more open about their competition than igbos.

    2. Can be selfish. Check the deep seated intention, its laced with selfishness. Always grabbing and usually shocked when a non-grabber gets a good opportunity. Want to know how they did it but will never share their own success secrets.

    3. If you dont have money (or something else they are yet to have) they will most likely not respect you. Their respect depends on how much you are worth in the bank or society and they dont hide it. This is why they go all out to succeed. Some of them watched their parents being disrespected because they didnt have much and cant stand history repeating itself. Yoruba respect everyone rich or poor. The more grey hair the more respect for yorubas.

    4. They often get disrespectful about their language. Trying to force you to learn it, something yorubas dont do except you are marrying their brother.

    5. Always trying to pull you into their own way of doing things too. If you dont have strong will, you can't cope. I dont know if its manipulation or oppression mindset but it's so difficult for them to accept new ways of doing things and keep an open mind. It can be really choking and this is why many steer clear off them. (Not me sha cos I get their medicine๐Ÿ˜‚)

    6. Their men?? ๐Ÿ™ˆ Ego!!! Yoruba men? Respect. Just respect them even if they have money or not. Lol.

This is what I've noticed about most igbos especially the ones who come to Lagos after living in the East all their lives. The ones who grew up in more diverse cities with various mindsets are not as thick on these characteristics.

P.S: these are based on my person experiences. If you dont agree, well I dont have to agree with you too. Because I know how you people can be when someone doesn't agree with you.

  42. In 2017, after bashing from many Nigerians for being unemployed most of his adult life, Ozodi applied and was hired as an adjunct professor in Psychology in University of Alaska in Anchorage. After one semester, there were some reviews not to take his PS101 class because they couldn't understand him. You heard that. After 45 years in US, the loser can barely verbally express himself. Ozodi was depressed after that and is usual, decided to take out his frustration on Igbo people online through provocative articles. A man that despised his old parents in Nigeria that he refused to attend their burial and had the effrontery to gloat about it online in one of his numerous articles. Will any rational being listen to the ramblings of such a lunatic?

    1. Discrediting Ozodi or what he does in his personal life does not change what Nigeria already knows about Igbos which Ozodi just confirmed in writing, so what is your point. Your comment just proved again what this write up is saying about you.

  43. Ozodi was so vociferous in his attacks on Igbo people that in 2015, some people took it upon themselves to visit his village near Owerri. His life was a folk tale because the people only hear that there exists such a man who travelled abroad in the early 70s and have yet to return to Nigeria. The articles Ozodi write are based only on what he reads online. People could locate the kindred but no particular compound belongs to Ozodi after his elderly parents died in penury. This is the "credible" man you want to read his article on about anything. He is a loser for life. His life is full of regrets.

  44. This essay this from a 70+ years old, bald man who has never been to Nigeria or Igbo land in 45 years. Who gives a rat's ass about his opinion. Some volunteered to pay for his plane ticket to Nigeria last year. But shame no gree am as he no get anything to fall back on. Besides who knows? His village people may give him the Ekweremadu treatment for wasting the Goodwill they could have used in training a meaningful human being.
