Kogi State Assembly Begins Impeachment Of Deputy Gov. Achuba

Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday started the process for the impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba.

The impeachment notice was read by the majority leader of the House, Abdullahi Bello (Ajaokuta, APC) as a petition on the floor of the Assembly.

He said the petition was based on three grounds of criminal indulgence, financial misappropriation and non-performance.

Bello added that 21 of the 25 lawmakers had signed the petition.

The speaker, Kolawole Matthew asked that the petition be served on the deputy governor for him to respond to within the 14 days time frame of the law. He also said a panel will be set up to investigate Achuba’s side of the story.

  1. Why haven't any governor being impeached this way? Or aren't there corrupt governors worse than what they are trying to paint this deputy, with the likes of Ganduje that was caught on record. Is the governor of Kogi better than his deputy? I read non performance and want to know specifically on what aspect. Nigeria is truly a joke.

If I were him, I will resign. Something doesn't smell right. They can only accuse him if he has refused to work with the Governor. And the Governor can make him redundant by not giving him duties to perform. In the end it looks like his not performing. But actually he can't except what the Governor assigns him.

  4. Achuba earned my respect on this. The hypocrisy in Nigeria is beyond comprehension, this man has always had problem with Yahaya Bello because Kogi worker's salaries. They are impeaching him for standing up against tyranny and oppression. I know this can only happen in Kogi state where cowards dwell with mentally cheap people. Shame!!!

  5. Yahaya Bello and his deputy were not elected but they were imposed on the people. The people voted the candidate, not the party. And that was in the person of the late Abubakar Audu. His votes were used to bring on the current governor who is a pictorial representation of 'mistake'. So they are free to do anyhow. I just pray they vote bad leaders out in their next election.
