According to the House, it was important to investigate the purchase of the 820 buses out of the 5,000 buses proposed by former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for mass transit in the state, but which was purchased despite objection by the House of Assembly.
In a motion, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti Osa 2), noted that at the Executive/ Legislative parley held at Golden Tulip in FESTAC in September 2017, Ambode informed the lawmakers that 5,000 buses would be bought by the state government.
The lawmaker stated that the executive proposed to spend N17 billion to purchase the buses in the 2017 budget, but that this was not approved by the Assembly.
Yishawu added that the House was worried that 520 buses were still awaiting clearance from the bonded warehouse and the Port, waiting to be cleared, and that they were purchased with taxpayers’ money without approval.
He urged the House to set up an adhoc committee to investigate all the issues relating to the purchase of the buses.
He also asked that the House should investigate the cost of the purchase of the buses and other issues surrounding it to prevent a re-occurence.
In his submission, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said that the House needed to prevent waste because the expenditure had been done.
The House subsequently set up a committee headed by Hon. Fatal Mojeed (Ibeju Lekki 1) to look into the matter and report to the House in due course.
Members of the committee, according to the Speaker included Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, Hon. Bisi Yusuff (Alimosho 1), Hon. Olanrewaju Afinni (Lagos Island 2), Hon. Rasheed Makinde (Ifako Ijaiye 2), Hon. Yinka Ogundimu (Agege 2), Hon. Mojisola Miranda (Apapa 1) and others.
The Speaker directed the committee to invite the Accountant General of the state, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, and others that were involved in the purchase to state what they knew about the purchase.
He also told them to invite the current Commissioner for Finance, the Managing Director of LAMATA and others.
In his contribution earlier, Hon. Yinka Ogundimu (Agege 2) stated that the House needed to investigate every transaction that had to do with the procurement of the buses.

This is a good move in the right direction. I wish every past administration are being probed this way, things won't be as bad as they are already and also, incoming administration will avoid making the same mistakes.
ReplyDeleteProbing shouldn't be selective, else it becomes political vendetta.
First time in the history of Lagos State. Well the buses are running the various routes but they sure are not even up to 50. Ambode stepped on so many toes so it will not be easy for him once they start probing him. He was enriching his pockets only. He has so many aggrieved former members of his cabinet who are ready for him now.
ReplyDeleteLet’s see how it will all end.

ReplyDeleteEnough of all una wahala
Ambode is not a saint, likewise the people that wants to probe him. Obviously he stepped on toes during his time, and what is happening is clear witch hunting. Lagos State can not be generating huge sums of money and a person or group of persons will be siphoning it to their pockets.
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing about stepping on toes and we need to be objective in our reasoning. How can you purchase buses that cannot pass the designated BRT lane. Who in their right mind would go off specification??So the entire team went blindly to purchase buses that can't help people bid traffic during peak period.
DeleteInstead of hitting the ground running after he was sworn in, he started chasing his enemies up and down. He spent half of his administration chasing Falasha's shadow, changing every single thing the man did(Just because he wanted to wipe out his Legacy).
What of the deplorable state Lagos is currently in( from waste management to bad roads). This man and his cohorts milked Lagos State dry! and i mean DRY.Clueless Vindictive TOAD!!
Anon 10:55,you said every thing we analysed in my family yesterday evening. How do you mix a cocktail of corruption with extreme nastiness: He entered by maligning Fashola and exited maligning Sanwoolu..and then he still conscripted funds? He should face the music!
Deletegod fatherism is very bad
ReplyDeleteThe evil that men do live with them. Ambode performance was far below expectation. Wish him good luck.
ReplyDeleteEven the new elected governor, we never even see anything at all from him. ths whole waste management things should ve been tackled by now
ReplyDeleteThe fire just started. Came in badmouthing Fashola and everything he did, trying to dirty his good works, entered and spent the 4years trying to undo what he did rather than continuing from where he stopped. Exited badmouthing Sanwo olu.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that nobody not even his deputy voted for him in the run off with Sanwo olu sealed his political fate. Of all the people to try and disgrace it is Fashola? A man who did above and beyond for the state with very visible legacies?
There's stupidity and then there's the Ambode version. He thought he was a mini god that couldn't be removed.
He stepped on toes no doubt but let's not be blind to the fact that he can only be probed because he did next to nothing and the little he did is mired in controversies.
thank you! Mr i "Do you know who i am?? I hold the power of Life and Death" When you are not God. See God has a way of humbling us, if you misuse the position/opportunity he gave you, he will take it off you and give someone else! And reduce you to nothing if you feel you you are untouchable. Silly Billy!
DeleteKeep answering and replying yourself, Werey. We have heard. We know Ambode was a vindictive person. A lesson to all. Always look back and have your own team. Your ride or die people. Ambode lacked people’s skill. And had an inferiority complex. They are all thieves, nah who dem catch
