Elder Simon Achuba lwas impeached as from his post as Deputy governor by the house last week...
Onoja was the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello.
How does a former chief of staff suddenly become a deputy governor?Does the constitution allow this?
What a zoo of a country.
ReplyDeleteStella, there’s nothing wrong with the replacement constitutionally.
DeleteAccording to the constitution, if a deputy governor is impeached (or resigns, or dies), the governor / party will have to nominate a replacement but will require confirmation from the House of Assembly.
A similar case was that of former VP Namadi Sambo, who was nominated after GEJ became the substantive President at the demise of Late Yar’Adua, in this case he was also nominated by the party and confirmed by the National Assembly. Anyone can be nominated as long as they meet the legal requirements for that position.
The issue in this case is the manner in which the ex Deputy Gov was removed
Stella, even the impeachment was a sham. These people are making a mockery of our democracy and system but unfortunately, they get away with it. May God help our dear country Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteWished kogi people will come out enmasse and vote that idiot bello out. But you know nija politics APC demonic party will not agree.
ReplyDeleteThe man don chop devil's food. So he will continue to rule them
Did they really vote him in, in the first place?
DeleteThe Kogites will come out and vote but the vote(s) will not count as he is going to rig it.
DeleteJohn Baiyeshea, chairman of the panel that was set up to investigate allegations against the impeached Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba has disclosed that they couldn’t prove the allegation he was impeached for.
ReplyDeleteThe Panel’s chairman described the impeachment as “the most bizarre thing that I have ever heard in my life”, and also disclosed that their report was submitted when the house was not in session.
He added that it was not possible for the lawmakers to impeach Achuba since they couldn’t prove the allegation against him.
"This is the most bizarre thing that I have ever heard in my life,”Baiyeshea said.
"We submitted the report to the speaker around 1pm and I left Lokoja for Abuja. I was at Gwagwalada area when one of the panel’s members who had not left Lokoja called to tell me that he saw it on television that the deputy governor had been impeached.
“As far as the report that we submitted to the house of assembly is concerned, the committee returned the decision that all the allegations were not proved. What the constitution said by section 188(8) is that, ‘once the panel returns a verdict like that. No further proceedings can be taken on it.’
"That is it. It is only when the panel returns a verdict that allegations have been proved (to be true) that they can go ahead within 40 days. When did the house sit? We delivered the documents and the house was not even in session today.”
Does Nigeria have a constitution, anybody can do anyhow, lawless country
ReplyDeleteUseless Country
ReplyDeleteDecision that was taken in 2015 is what people are seeing now. Kogi folk, better lie on the ground and beg God for mercy cos if these two return come November...
