I didn't grow up with helps, but I see the way my neighbor treats her...poorly. The kid is such a brilliant and hardworking girl. She's does practically everything in that house. How do you work someone's child like that? Where's your conscience?
Some justify their wicked actions with "I pay her" really? Is that enough reason to maltreat her?
Some of you feed your helps with left overs. God is watching you.
Nobody knows what tomorrow has for us. Let's be careful how we treat humans like us.
There is no peace for the wicked.

    2. My friend got a househelp from a lady who runs an agency, when it was her birthday she surprised her with little party. She was so excited that she broke down and told my friend no one has ever celebrated her. Two days after she said she wants to leave and my friend was wondering why. She opened up and told her 'Ma you're good, I don't want to do you bad, my madam(the agency owner) give me powder to sleep with oga. Anything I tell oga after I sleep with him, he will give me and I will give my madam. She said the day she wanted to use the powder for Oga, he left the house for an impromptu meeting.. My friend thought she brought an innocent girl home. Babe has destroyed 2homes since she started househelp work and not poor at all. The gist is long sha.

I currently have a new help , less than a month with us, she seems to be a nice girl, already a graduate but haven't served yet, took her to the mall to get her some nice things each time we go shopping I try to make her happy, she is in her early twenties, if she continue being nice to my children, we'll surprise her more.

  3. My own na mental case. The moment you start petting her and showing her small love she will start misbehaving. Tell her to do something she wont do it,call her n she most likely ignores. Keep snacks she will go n eat n tell you that she thought it was for her because I bought same snacks and gave her the previous week. And so many other mischievous behaviours.
Once I start being very strict with her she starts acting like a human being. But it's not my personality n its tiring to always be forming strict strict at home. I tire.

    1. Lol some people won’t just have sense. Just like the first girl we had. My mom was nice to her to a fault and sort of made her a governess over us but this girl reciprocated my mom’s kindness with being a total butthole lol. After a while my mom got rid of her. But she was a truly hardworking girl and could be sweet sometimes but mom was fed up. I’m all this, I remember my mom never changed towards her or became mean to her, she just quietly told her to go since she wanted to be pigheaded.

  5. Had only one my kids call "Big sister" just when I had my first baby and she stayed for some years. Such a sweet girl. Attended same Elementary school as my first two kids at some point. Calls me "mommy *".Graduated from high school and went to University at my expense until she got married. Now, my kids are helping out in the house and I never got to get another. Only the eldest knows that she isn't her biological sister and finds it difficult to believe.
As far as they are concerned, she is "Big sister T" 😊😊😊😊

If you treat a human being like a human being, like your flesh and blood, like your kids, she will behave like one. But if you (like my friends Naija girls) treat her like a "house help," she go begin to dey help the house na. I know one lady in my town that so maltreated her househelp, starved this girl and she became like a scarecrow. One day, the girl woke all the neighborhood from sleep with a piercing cry. Madam spread her legs and poured ground peppers. 😱😱😱😱 She "stole meat from the pot". Why she no go steal when she is never given even two wholesome meals in a day. This is a very rich family o.
Ngwanu, no be same toh🀐🀐 she carry gum madam's "rod" ride, carry belle, born and after a long drama, madam had to pack out with only one of her kid?
    Okwa ajuju oo.
There is an extent to which a human can endure before she snaps and with a hardened heart from torture, deals with her tormentor.
Ndi uta, ndewo nu ooo 😊😊😊

    4. OMG!

Me I dont have house help, i am my own help and my children are my assistants.

There is a woman in my chuch I admire alot, if you see the girl that stays with her, u will think she is her first daughter, always looking beautiful and neat. Today she and her daughters and the girl wore same Ankara to church with same style. I walked up to her and told her how beautiful they all look.

    5. Her mom was informed several times about the treatment metted on her daughter but she preferred she stayed there than come back to the village. She even warned us to stop calling her and went ahead to tell my neighbor that some gossips keep calling her to complain. So people stopped.

She was arrested but released not long after on the grounds that she's pregnant(she truly was).
The parents of the girl still living with her doesn't want her too. She has ran away several times but still have to come back. Sometimes, I wished I could help but i was only squatting then and had next to nothing. I only tried by calling but the mother of the deceased doesn't care.

    2. That reminds me, let me check to see if her help is back. I pay her salary, but she runs things in the house. I'm praying she gets married from our house. She is not very sound educationally but opted to learn tailoring which is is doing right now. I want her to leave with a handiwork. I pray she leaves with gratitude to her matrimonial home.

  10. I’ve been lucky. Have had 4 and to the glory of God 3 are graduates trained by hubby and I. 2 have married from my house. 3rd one loading. I tried to treat them all well and patiently. They are human beings with mood swings, menstrual pains and all human emotions. They all turned out ok. I also did not take under 18 girls. U must be at least 18 or over. We have turned out to be very close and one was my rock when hubby was messing up. In fact they are my younger ones. Now my kids have grown I no longer need new ones so just have someone that comes to clean and go. We thank God.

  11. Growing up, my mum always had her younger siblings around to assist. No external persons came to stay with us.

I've heard so much about house helps and I think I'm better of without them.

  12. We’ve only ever had like 2 long term “House helps”
The thing is, my mom is overly nice to a fault. She doesn’t only treat them like family, she also accords them respect and make us do house hold chores also. The first girl I remember was very hardworking, intelligent, brilliant and serviceable but she had a very bad attitude. She took advantage of my mom’s overly nice disposition and started becoming rude and disrespectful. My mom put up with this for a long time but she eventually got fed up and sent her back to her people. This happened like 15 years ago and we still keep in touch with the girl because she practically became like family to us. She should be married now. After then we had a slew of short term girls, most of them usually came, cleaned and went back to their base. All mature girls. Most of them still keep in touch with my mom.
We don’t have any live in help now, we just have a Mama that comes three times a week to spring clean. I think this is the best arrangement.

  13. This post came at the right time. This morning I saw another side of my house girl.
She has only been with me 1 year plus. She is clean and hard working and i like her alot. I treat her like my daughter. Infact today she told me people in the Neighbourhood think she is my daughter or sister. She dresses well and she glows. Has a room and convenience yo herself plus Tv. But she shocked me,.
I am very free with her. Trust her so keep money for different purposes with her as I travel alot. There is over 60k in her custody for purposes like food money, money to recharge electricity, Gen fuel, DSTV etc
This morning our DSTV got disconnected and i asked why she did not pay before now, behold she leant her friend the money.
I was mad. Are you working that you are borrowing someone money?
I almost return her back to village but she rolled on the floor crying that the friend promised to return but failed but that she will get it. I am not sure she can get back that money ad she does not even know where the friend lives. I now begin to see a different person in her. How can you give out your madam money?my room is opened to her. Now i will be more discreet cause i dont know what she is capable of doing.

I was planning to give her work in my office later but i am having a second thought

  14. I have always had housemaids and i have been quite lucky with them cause i treat them well. Infact my daughter is even envious of her as she claims that girl is too close to me. I told her she will marry from my house. She does not steal. Cooks well and keeps house clean. One was with me for 9 years till she got admission into Uni. She had graduated and We are still relating. I am looking for job for her. The one before her stayed for 6 but i had to return as her father was too demanding. This one is now 3 years now with me.I love her like my daughter. She is now 20yrs. She has finished SSCE. Thinking what next.

  15. We didn't really have help growing up, my mum was not lucky with help, they never stayed long enough, at a young age i and my siblings had to learn how to do things for ourselves because my mum was so busy with her business.
When i gave birth to my first child, my husband asked me if he should call his sister ( she has an agency) for help but i refused, now i need one makana oru adighi agwu agwu, initially with the stories i hear, most especially of help Molesting kids, that stuff scares me shitless, but mehn help is a necessary evil biko

  16. some house helps are very nice..one of my member took her house help of 10 years with her to London together with whole family this December...she calls her aunty and the woman is very nice..

  17. Mine told me on 20th December that her sister is critically ill, and she wants to go visit her. I paid her her salary and also Christmas gift and told her I will call the sister to greet her. She said NOOO that the sister lost her phone and has not been able to get another one. That anytime I want to speak with the sister I should call her.

I tried reaching her that evening but her line was switched off from that 20th till 27th when I decided to go check if all was well with her family.

I left from Jabi to Lugbe that Christmas that everywhere was hot.
When I got there, I met the sister that was supposed to be sick and she told me nothing was wrong with her. That I should have called her on phone instead of suffering myself. I told her that her sister said her phone was stolen and she said God forbid. That nothing happened to her phone.

She told me her sister only called her on phone and told her she was traveling for her Friend's traditional marriage and will be back on 3rd January and she asked her if her madam is in support but she said yes.

Well I just came back home and called my anget that brought this one that's acting deaf and dumb.

  19. I grew up with househelps but my mum ensures we all took part in all house chores. From sweeping, mopping, washing ,going to the market ,you name it,we all did everything o. At a point I had to ask my sister what exactly did she employ the house help for.

I'm married now and I have a house help, she's done with secondary school and will sit for JAMB this year.My house help is like a sister to me ,
I make sure my kids do house chores alongside my house help, not as much as I did while growing up though.

Overall I think I'm lucky to have a help that sees me as an elder sister and takes care of my kids like her siblings.

  20. Mine sneaked out of the house back to her grand ma in the village in December. This is someone that people usually ask if she is my sister, that I take care of her so well. The story is long and I can't type right now but I think I am better off now without a help as my kids are growing so that they can learn how to do things by themselves.

  24. no house help but i have a cousin who lives with me and does chores in return for putting her through school. i wanted someone to help at home but was scared to take a neutral person cos of all the stories i hear. i also have a nanny for the kids who come and go so this cousin only sweeps, mops and run errands, the nanay takes care of the kids before and after school except weekends.my cousin goes to school, and i buy her stuff like my children but am tired of her antics. i gave her a lot of liberty when she first came to me at about 12 cos we are related but its like she has started growing wings. she doesnt like to work, very dirty and always want to sit and watch telly. she is 14 now but still in primary school cos i wanted her to start from fresh and learn the basics as she was just coming from the village. she has a lesson teacher so has greatly improved in her academics, but character wise she annoys the hell out of me and i am fed up. she sleeps like a log and expects me to keep singing about a particular thing everyday. she doesnt cook or wash clothes cos we have a washing machine but will leave her clothes stuffed in the cupboard dirty till i come to inspect..she can wacth tv till morning without sleeping but tell her to wash plates next thing na sleep..i beat her sometimes when she upsets me but i know sending her back will just not be in her favour as her father is late and her mum really has nothing. i pray she will change if not i will send her back, cos i cannot be stressing my self over a child that doesnt want to change. my 2 kids are still under five so they cant do much in termsof house work..if not because i have to go to work wont bother with anyone living with me sef
