But why are people rejoicing saying serves them right? What do u gain by someone's humiliation? Rejoicing at someone's misfortune? God help us

    13. In Nigeria, once you have been convicted of a criminal offence, you become a convict. You can be sentenced to a prison term or you are asked to pay a fine or both. You can also be ordered to do community service as well as pay a fine in lieu of imprisonment. So a convict can either be sent to prison or ordered to do community service for a designated period. It is only after you have served whatever punishment was given that you are now referred to as an "ex-convict" or "ex-con". You mustn't be sent to prison to be an ex-convict.

Like we say in law, the real punishment is the new status of "ex-convict". It is even worse than imprisonment or a fine or both. The "saving grace", for lack of a better word, is that she wasn't convicted of a felony, that carries more restrictions on future endeavors.

Right now, she is a convict. After serving her 14 day community service and paying the fine, she will now be what is known in law as an "ex-convict". If she were given a prison sentence, she would still be referred to as a "convict". After her release from prison, she will then be referred to as an "ex-convict".

The terms "convict" and "ex-convict" are not used exclusive for those sent to prison and released from prison, respectively. They are used once a person has been convicted of a criminal offence and after the person has duly served his or her sentence, whether custodial sentence or not.

The government is trying all it could to contain COVID'19 and there has been a clear order to maintain social distance, and then a celeb goes ahead to throw a party, what if someone contacts this virus from that party? Why thwart efforts of the government? People that heeded to the social distance order are not stupid...we want things to go back to normal, we want to live our lives again.

Funkee, abeg pick the lessons and move on. We all love your work but you messed up here and helped brew the perfect storm. This is why adult communication is important in marriage. Your husband could have lovingly shut down the idea of inviting guests for the sake of the health of the children living with you, your staff and yourselves. He could have reminded you of the adverts and how your brand may suffer if it got out. You could have lovingly told him not to post the pictures so word doesn't get out. You could have gone on without inviting guests. Someone should have been thinking of the kids and what may happen. You should have told him not to start insulting fans instead of apologizing. So much could have happened but instead this. I'm still rooting for you guys but please, pick the lesson.

  5. Well, that is the thing to do. Funke has a huge following. She flouted the law and the Law must take it's course. She is lucky not to have been sent to jail. What she did was unreasonable and her husband jeering on instagram the next day was idiocy at it's peak. She is lucky to have only been fined. Depending on what the Judge smoked that day, she could have been fined and still go to Jail. As for those calling for her unconditional release, are you people well at all? You want change in Nigeria but nobody wants to pay the price. Time to also go after all the useless big men, pastors, Alfas etc who think they are above the law. Small small Nigeria will get there and hopefully become a sane society. The journey far sha. Nonsense and Buhari

    6. Since she was found guilty of a misdemeanor or minor crime and sentenced by a court, she is an ex convict.

You don't have to be sentenced to prison to be an ex con. Someone who is sentenced to prison is not only an ex con but also a felon or inmate.

The crime of disobeying the directive given by the government will appear on her criminal record.

However, as it is a misdemeanor, the offense will most likely be expunged from her records after a waiting period. I'm sure she'll get her attorneys to sort that out soon enough.

On a whole, it's an unfortunate circumstance that I'm sure she regrets because it could have easily been avoided. It simply was a poor judgement call.

      Delete
    7. This is straight forward. The issue here is she pleaded guilty and court sentenced her to community service and fine.

Lots of people have cancelled life events that are so monumental due to the lock down. They did because there is something much bigger and threatening to humanity and because the government said no movement .Then because someone is a celeb, flaunts the law as if saying ‘oh look it's not that serious’ . Yes, what she and her husband did is wrong. Yes, they should be arrested and fined for flaunting the law. But the kind of evil comments I have been seeing just makes me wonder. The same BVs who rejoice at her current issues will throw parties when someone closer to home experiences setbacks.

In short, Funke is a shitty person and a lot of the people in the industry can't stand her and her arrogance. And she's very verbally abusive, too. She will cuss you and your mother out at the slightest provocation. You see the Funke who did the video saying hang yourself with rope if you're upset at the party or whatever (I'm paraphrasing)? 34. I’m not an Attorney. However, a misdemeanor and a felony and a ticketed misdeed are different so to those referring to her as ex convict, it’s not accurate. At least by standards of civilized societies. Regardless, I’m of the opinion that anything that moves Nigeria towards social justice and equal treatment will result in a saner society. I have watched her Jenifa original movies with my then little children laughing at her mannerisms not really understanding what was being said. I’m not exactly a movie fan because I’ve always been a working parent/spouse but we watched it in the days of VHS. She is talented and hopefully can help in some tangible way like serve in an orphanage to show her remorse.

No offense, the pastor of the large church should not be exempt from this type of example. I’m a staunch SU but churches here stopped gatherings a while back. It was still not enough. We lost one of the pastors in our 7000 congregation to COVID-19 last week! It is that serious. Some states only allow 10 people at funerals.

Funke, I wish you the best but give any excess money to raise young girls and boys like Oprah Leadership Academy and Morehouse 50 physicians whose school fees and lives were changed by Oprah. Oprah will be surrounded by several children and grandchildren in her old age as a result of the lives she touched. She already attends a lot of commencement ceremonies as her SA girls graduate from several colleges every year. Those are examples worthy of emulation. That is the kind of person I would actually love to copy as a person other than Jesus. To followers of any pastor who may want to utter negatives, remember this virus is like a stone thrown in the market, you don’t know where it will land. The British PM is fighting for his life. Curse causeless will not come on me in Jesus Name. He who has ears let him hear!
