COVID19 - 51 Recovered Patients Test Positive Again.....

MUST READ - At least 51 patients diagnosed as having fully recovered from the coronavirus in South Korea have tested positive a second time after leaving quarantine, according to officials.

The patients from Daegu all tested positive in a “relatively short time” after they were given the all-clear from their initial infections, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said, according to the government-funded Yonhap News Agency.

A specialist team has been sent to conduct an epidemiological investigation in the city, which is the epicenter of the epidemic in South Korea, the agency says.

For now, the KCDC’s director-general, Jeong Eun-kyeong, believes it is likely the infection was re-activated after remaining dormant in the patients, as opposed to them being reinfected, the report said.Enlarge Image

Either way, it strengthens fears that the contagion remains a hidden danger even after it appears to have gone — with whistleblowing Chinese doctors previously warning it is even deadlier the second time.

Doctors on the front lines in Wuhan — where the virus first originated — previously said as many as 10% of those assumed to have recovered had tested positive again.

Paul Hunter, an infectious diseases professor at the University of East Anglia, told MailOnline that the cases were far more likely to be “reactivations” — or even just a sign of current testing being flawed.

“Personally, I think the most likely explanation is that the clearance samples were false negative,” Hunter told the site.

  1. There's no absolute cure then... Which also means the discharged persons in Nigeria, might be infecting others

    1. That’s not true ,is because healthcare workers are not doing the swab properly. That’s why they go for 2nd and 3rd swabs now. You have to dip it down into their throat to get the best results, if you just swab the back of the tongue you will get negative for a positive patient .

  2. That has been the mind boggling question. I recently took a course on COVID-19, asked that question and the facilitators said it was still being researched. There you have it! They can still be positive after testing negative as opposed to being reinfected. That's more dangerous because after being reintroduced to society, they can go on to infect others. Nigerian government should take note. Get discharged and still self isolate to get tested again. Lord help Your children.

  8. There is no cure for the virus. Symptoms are being treated so yes the virus is in the body just hibernating till it gets triggered. Only the body can fight it and until then people carrying the virus can still infect others. That's why the way Nigeria is discharging people is very questionable. A false negative can occur especially when they havnet been swabbed properly. Like Herpes, if you are not showing signs when they swap you, you will test negative but the virus is still there and you are VERY CONTAGIOUS only when you have blisters and a futher blood test can ascertain for sure.

  11. Get treated, be re-tested and turns out negative. Then, boom, positive again.
It's only God that knows the end of this pandemic.

    God save us.

  12. I think the virus is just like HIV, you test negative to HIV months after treatment, but if you stop taking your meds you test positive again and the virus comes back with full force, thats why they advice positive people to always take their drugs. Miracle can heal, but some people run to church after taking drugs and testing negative, to give testimony of healing

  13. Those discharged should be tracked and followed up for at least one month this should be followed with self isolation

  14. Please watch the movie Contagion, it is eerily similar to what we are going through now. I cannot believe that the movie was released in 2011 and nobody took it seriously.
