The former Lagos State governor gave the advice in a statement issued to The Nation Newspaper in Lagos on Wednesday.
He said payments could be made quickly by using the BVN of prospective recipients to make direct deposits into individual bank accounts.
The APC leader said the use of BVN would also be safer and not lead to the types of violence and crime that might follow physical cash transfers.
Tinubu said this would even encourage those without bank accounts to establish such accounts and this process would further bring millions of people into formal banking.
“The money-less family still needs food, water, shelter and, to a lesser degree, utilities. In a compassionate society, they should not be made to do without.
“Most families need relief. If relief is not forthcoming, these families risk hunger and its attendant suffering and woes,” Tinubu said.
He said the palliative measures would blunt hunger, maintain aggregate demand in the domestic economy and help sustain private-sector markets to the extent possible.
*People abroad have started receiving alerts .....
Nigerian government sit up already please!!!!
Good one if they would hear.
ReplyDeleteAbeg dey should do quick, na 60naira dey my account biko
DeleteNot only bvn. If you get up to 5k for your accts. Omo dey wong give u. According to report.
DeleteThey will keep dragging this topic till the coronavirus phase is over nothing will still be done.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you. Very wicked and greedy governments
DeleteIs that not what the government is used to? Drag till the people gets tired and then forget the reason they were being dragged in the first place .
DeleteDrag till the end of the lockdown and Covid 19 pandemic, then BOLD BLANE PDP for hindering the implementation until 2023. Craft ConMen
DeleteAsin eh i need money o, na 5 hundred be my akant balance ! As an entrepreneur no business activities means no money this period . God help us
ReplyDeleteYou're richer than me o.
DeleteMine is 78 naira pere.
God will come through for us all in this period.
Brown Sucre and Unusual Amy, drop your account details....
DeleteThank you baba
ReplyDeletePlease the government should do the needful..its not about locking people down in their homes without providing palliative measures otherwise people will still go about their daily life there by spreading the virus. À HUNGRY MAN IS AN ANGRY MAN
ReplyDeleteIf people have something to eat , they will be less eager to go out ..
If palliative measures are provided and it gets to the majority , those who disobey will have no excuse when arrested by authorities. Please the government should pay people through their bvn, at least it will get to half of the people and they should go to areas like ghettos where the think people are less likely to have bank bank accounts and give them foodstuffs equivalent to the amount they are paying
Heard people in the US have started receiving alert. You need to hear what our Minister of humanitarian affairs said yesterday about the BVN issue. I just tire for Nigeria
ReplyDeleteOk naaa!!
ReplyDeleteLets watch and see when they will start crediting pple accounts..
Good one.
ReplyDeleteThats if they will listen
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha. That alert will never come oo
ReplyDeleteI hope federal government do the needful we need that money to buy food
ReplyDeleteTill I get the alert.. l dont believe it
ReplyDelete“The money-less family still needs food, water, shelter and, to a lesser degree, utilities. In a compassionate society, they should not be made to do without."
ReplyDeletePlease, Tinubu should advise Lagos State Government to provide these basic infrastructure - pipe-borne water, standardized low-cost housing (reclaim the ghettos and build), Soup kitchens for the poor and homeless.
Every state should do the same.
The use of BVN is a welcome idea. They should also include the UNEMPLOYED in the palliatives.
Thank you.
Good idea from Tinubu, now the god of the gods have spoken
ReplyDeleteI wish they can follow this Tinubu advice.
ReplyDeleteI pray government hear and do the needful. The kind of leaders we have in this country ehn.
ReplyDeleteI pray they listen to him. There is hunger in the land.
ReplyDeleteI pray government hear what jagaban said and do the needful because the country is suffering from hunger, that was how Fair-money deducted my last 6k in my account all because of loan payment,is not as if I don't want to pay but why will I pay any money during this lockdown, how will I survive? Have be en having headache since yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWho is government and who is jagaban??? Let him pull out the bullion van too, let him make his man properties scattered all over Lagos available for use this period. Jagaban is the government and the government is Jagaban. All is part of the schemings for 2023 agenda.
DeleteGood advice but instead of embezzling half of Lagos and making it your family's sole property, you could have put certain things in place to empower people. It would have gone a long way now. Bunch of rubbish people.
ReplyDeleteOn point!!! Even cornering expanse of land meant for building hospital and converting to personal estate. Hmmm, how many person go carry commot fpr this world?
DeleteThey had better follow Tinubu’s advice fast. I’m in Nigeria but as an American green card holder, I received my $1,200 yesterday. Kpakam! Nigerian leaders especially that Humanitarian one thing woman is so stupid. She is just chopping money and you will never see it on those kind of people ‘s face at least Dezieani own show as she’s a beautiful woman. Frustrated hag!
ReplyDeleteDo you have to say you’re a green card holder, nonsense. As long as you filed 2018/2019 tax, you will be paid, so it’s not because of your stupid green card that you received the stimulus money, hisses
DeleteI was shocked when I read about what some politicians wrote on twitter!
ReplyDeleteHaving a bank account doesn't mean you are rich or middle class. Just like having a car doesn't make you rich.
I have been saying this BVN should be used but as Tinubu have did it now,I hope they hear and comply but until I get an alert I won't believe it
ReplyDeleteI hope they do as he said. I don't trust this government at all.
ReplyDeleteFG should take this advice
ReplyDeleteas a youth! Am ashamed most of you on that 5k post! You were saying why are we blaming govt. you should be ashamed with this ur poor mentality. What are you saying??. Which government in 21st century does not have their citizens data base! The way you reason is the reason the youth cannot stand up to their right. Do u know the amount that is being generated in this country on daily bases. The money contributed towards this pandemic where is it??? If they share 200k each for its citizens!! money will still remain. For God sake what have you gained from this devilish country. Most are living in poverty becos all we do is pay tax to them and nothing is provided for us.
ReplyDelete1.A country no employment for the youth.
2. No constant light.
3. No good road.
4. No clean water.
5. No good facility.
Most African countries are proud to have 24hour light and is no longer an issue. Nigeria have all the natural resources. Nigeria have enough far better than most African countries that have developed better than us. All our leaders do is embezzle all the money to buy houses abroad and feed their families. Buying private jet and cars. They dnt care about you. They dnt care if you die or not. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING! CHANGE THAT MENTALITY. The youth have no Jobs. Most PHD holders collect less 100k up ward! Most graduates 50k as salary. Nigeria at this stage dnt have data base of its Citizens. So what's the bvn base for. They claim to have shared money to all Citizens when you and I know all is lies. Who and who get it. The youths are not fighting back. All we know is argue over baseless issues on Twitter and Instagram. No body is questioning them! We are in Democracy dat nothing is working. Youths are not been given grant to set up them selves in businesses. Pls stop that mentality. Except u are gaining from the govt. If not am pained at you poor mentality.
Stella pls post. I am pained someone left a comment on that post about having 5k dey wont credit you. Nigerians need to wake up from their long sleep
Big hug
