Catholic Church Donates Its 425 Health Facilities To FG As Isolation Centers

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has offered all its 425 health facilities across the country as isolation centres for COVID-19.

The news was confirmed by Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation(SGF)during the presidential task force briefing on Monday, May 11th.

Boss Mustapha stated that the recent donations would add as support for the state governments.

In his speech, he noted that,

“As part of efforts to support the states in the establishment of the isolation and treatment centres, I wish to remind our governors that the Catholic Bishops Conference has volunteered all the 425 hospitals and clinics nationwide for adaptation and use as isolation centres,” he said.

“Governors are encouraged to please approach Catholic Bishops in their states to access these facilities.

“As a further cost-effective measure, I also wish to remind subnational authorities that the Nigeria Institute of Architects has pledged the pro bono services of their members to modify, design and supervise all COVID-19 related projects nationwide. Again, we urge that this offer be taken up speedily.”

The SGF also revealed that The THISDAY Dome treatment and isolation facility in Abuja would be inaugurated on Tuesday, adding a total of 270 beds to isolation capacity in Abuja.

  1. That's how you assist the government not screaming for back to church because of offering money that you are missing.

    5. To say the truth Catholic Church does a lot. Majority of the good schools back in our parents time were Catholic schools, even till date they still have some pretty good schools with reasonable fees that people can afford. Their hospitals are usually affordable also.
This is what Christianity should be about.

The St Mathew's Catholic Clinic in my area is mainly attended by Muslims. You see them all over the place with Hijab as free as sir , without being segregated.

  8. The Catholic Church is the only organisation that comes close to being a Real Church in Nigeria. Very commendable of them. Others are just yahoo. I always pity anyone that says they left the Catholic church for these yahoo homes.

  18. Is this a wise decision by the Catholic church? what happens to those with other ailments? won't they be treated in d Hosp again,if yes,are they not putting their lives at risk by making the Hosp isolation centres. why not just make some of them isolation centres and reserve others for treatment of other ailments. this is just my opinion though.

  22. Wow. All 425 hospitals given. No more words. Reminds me of the nun that gave her life for her students. Generosity is hard, especially when there's nothing to gain or when it's our all. It's very human to want to grab the world, and hold unto what makes us secure. And in uncertain times like this, we tend to hold on even more tightly. Thank you catholic church for this selflessness.

Lord help me and all of us who sometimes struggle with generosity.

  24. Hope as they are donating their hospitals;they are also either training health workers working there on how to handle covid 19 and also putting incentives on their salaries.Thats how the hospital my cousin works broadcasted on air they had donated their hospital as isolation centre to covid 19;made an inflated budget running into billions of naira to give to FG on things they will need ; the Management was going to make serious money from it; and yet they intended to use their already existing staff to run d place with d same peanut salaries they were being paid & no consideration for incentives.Nigerian employers are the worst sha.

  26. One of the reasons I love Catholic Church (though not a member) but their acts/deeds shows what Jesus preach. When you see their hospitals, you marvel. I had the privilege to use their eye clinic for my son. You see both Muslims(fully covered) using their hospitals which is very very affordable and they don't discriminate.
    God bless the Catholic Church.
