Labour Room Drama 287 - Part 2

JESUS CHRIST.........what is this?

Please do not read this story if you cry easily or if you go into shock quickly

Hello people,

My second pregnancy came 7yrs later like a miracle (I shared here too). Everything was going well till 5 months, protein was detected in my urine with a bp of 148/90-100 ( on several visits) by the nurse during my routine antenatal checks. When I went in to see doc. She went through my file on the system then raised her head to look at me.

Doc A: How do you feel?
Me: Very well, thank you.
Doc A: Here are your routine drugs, any questions or concerns.
Me: No doc, I'm very well.
Doc A: Ok I will referral you to the physician in the first office by your right. Meet him he will check your folder and tell you what next. Pls make sure you follow every instructions and give him every information you think is necessary.
Me: ok doc, is everything ok?
Doc A: is well just make sure you follow instructions, you wouldn't want to deal with preeclampsia. Is best imagined.
Me : Ok doc Ada thank you a lot.

I left and worked into the office, another set of receptionist.

Me: Hello, pls I'm here to see the physician.

Lady: ok, let me check.
She looked at the system and raised her head to speak to me.

Lady: Madam, pls you will go to the reception downstairs and meet them. You will head to the cash point after that and make payments to see the physician and then come back pls.

I left did everything and came back, my blood pressure was checked again, then I sat down and waited till it was my turn.

Physician: How are you madam?
Me: Very well, thank you. You?
Doc: Very good, you are welcome pls have a sit. Your name pls.
Me: Mrs bla bla bla.......

He looked at his system and looked at me.

Doc: hmmmm......
Me: is everything ok doc
Doc: yes madam, everything shall be well. There is a trace of protein in your urine and that is a course for concern, and your bp is also high which isn't really much of a problem but for the protein there, your kidneys need help.
I'm going to place you on low dose of do...... 250mg 3x daily and then you do ECG for me, have plenty rest, get a help and then see me next week.
Me: ok doc, thanks plenty. You have a pleasant day.
Doc: you too madam, remember to look after yourself and that lil man in there.
Me: is ok doc thank you.

My ignorance and dr Google then set in. My biggest mistake.
NB: If you are pregnant and can't understand what you read on Google, pls stay away from it.

I got home went to Google to check causes for protein in the urine, I didn't include when pregnant. And stuffs came up. I worked on that, never did the ecg and never took the drugs. Whenever I go for antenatal I will dodge the questions of blood pressure and say yes I'm on my drugs, the gyno will check size of my stomach and ask me if I was sure I was on my bp meds,I will say yes. I wanted to work on it naturally another mistake.....

By 32weeks I felt really sick, I will sleep and when I get up I will be all swollen all over, I started making less and dark urine ( my kidneys were shooting down) itching all over too (my liver was crying for help). I never had help and my house was always flooded all thanks to Wike and JDP.

As days went by I became more sicker. I started having pitting oedema all over more on my legs. My strength was going down by the day. When I lay I find it difficult to turn without help. My stomach became heavier and difficult for me to move freely. My left leg started to become very painful when I sit or lay and try to walk. I would stand and drag it for mins before the pressure will go off.
One night I was sleeping and had a very sharp pain in my womb, I panicked and asked my hubby to come cos of what happened with the first. We checked no blood, I was having headaches and pain in my chest so I told him to give me the blood pressure machine.

I checked and it was reading 171/20, I took the bp drug that has been lying in my bag since I was 26weeks, i felt better after i did and started taking it everyday but just one a day which wasn't doing much. My diet was really bad too cos of the flood in our home, we were cooking less and eating out more. So I had more salt, carb and spices in my food. I was always in my shop and never rested, just taking naps in my shop. The more days went by the darker and less urine I made. The more swollen I got and the darker in completion I go too.

Then at 36week hubby travelled for his younger brother's wedding. It was a sat I got a cleaner to come help me clean up and down while i washed and cleaned our room. I was getting my baby's stuffs and room ready. I was booked for a csection at 39wks cos i told docs i don't want to try vbac. While cleaning I felt a wet stuff in my v... so I stopped and checked nothing, I started praising God that this was how I used to check when I was TTC... but now see. I sat and my baby gave me a very hard kick. I got up and continued with my cleaning after washing clothes, bedsheets etc.

By 8PM after eating, the kicks and pains began increasing, so I went upstairs to lay down. I did and it became worse. I ran into the toilet thinking I wanted to pop nothing came out. To stand became issue. I crawled in pains into the bed. I was crying my daughter was crying too. She asked if she should call her dad. I said no, let's not panic him. The pain and pressure was coming every 5 mins and stopping. It continued till 11pm, then I called my husband, I told him I was heading to the hospital but that he shouldn't panic that I'm having strong kicks and just want to go there so they checked me. Hubby became restless, I took my daughter and my security guard along cos it was late.

We got to the hospital and I told the doc on night shift that I'm 36weeks and having strong kicks. He said 36weeks was too early that the baby's lung may not be mature for outside world. I told him to feel my stomach, he did and said it was a strong Brixton kick or so. That he will give me pain killer and keep me under observation for the night.

I refused, I told him if it's Brixton kicks why keep me in the hospital. ( omo their bill no be here o!). I took the painkiller and drove off with my daughter and guard. By then the injection has started having effect on me. I drove like a thief dizzy. I got home and ran inside to lay down immediately. I called my security to call his friend to come sleep over so he can drive just incase I couldn't drive again.

By 4am the kicks woke me up, this time hmmmm.... I couldn't bear it again. I started crying and asked him to find a way so we can sneak his friend into the car cos of the dogs. I managed to walk down the stairs and into the car, had to drive to the gate so the guy can jump in and the dogs were running around the car. I wanted to come out and move to the back, the kicks came again I couldn't walk. I cried and cried and cried Cha! (Women dey try sha, we strong!!). I managed and went to the back. The boy moved over into driver's seat. I noticed he didnt know how to take the car out from park to drive eh! Jesus!!! One chance.

I asked him of he didn't know how to drive? He said he knew but was struggling with the car. I told him to move over and not drive make we no go die abeg. I wanted to come out again to the driver's sit. The kick came again , I paused cried and cried again. My husband was calling like crazy. I managed and entered. Told security to go to the room and get my hospital bag ( the guy is a good person so he is like family. 4yrs now with us).

I started driving to the hospital, when the kicks come I will park and cried out loud. I stopped like 5 places to cry, when it stops I will continue driving fast again. My eyes were just on my head. We got to cocain village gate they refused to open gate for my guard that went to knock, I wanted to come out pain started again, I brought out my head out crying and screaming I'm going to Prime!!! Pls help!!!.... I screamed till the mopol man came close and asked them to open the gate. I managed and continued driving fast.
We got there and I just parked took off and told the guard to lock the car. This time i was screaming.

Me:Doc pls check my baby!!! check my cervix!! It wants to explode do something pls. I was crying and hitting the chair, I was in pain.
He then asked I lay down his office, inserted his hand and said ah! Madam you are in labour, you are 5cm gone!! Are sure of your due date at all? Now they will give me query why I allowed you go the first time. Pls wheel her up to labour ward.

We got to labour ward they checked my bp and asked me if I came with my drugs, I said yes is in my bag. They gave me two tabs and asked if I have been taking my drugs, I was in so much pain to even ans. They brought the csection form I filled myself cos i booked for c-section. Then they checked my folder on the system and called the doc that has been handling my case. She came and asked I be undressed and taken to the labour bed. They did. By now the pain was increasing.

Me: Ha!!! I'm dead o! Who send me??? Doc Ada help me!!!!
Doc: don't worry you will push as you are 7cm gone already.
Me: ah!! I want to piss o! Piss!!! No is shit!!! Ah! My mother!!! this man you have finish me!!! Is this me!!!

I kept peeing on the bed eh! Pra pra pra..... each time doc inserted her hand to check, I felt like I would pass out. I became breathless.

Doc: pls don't push let the baby be doing the pushing, I will tell you when to push
Me: ok ooooooo........ Chineke muooooooo......

I tried and doc asked me if I'm in anyway trying to push? That i shouldn't. Next she inserted again and 8cm this time i think my water broke cos I felt a gush. I became afraid of pushing a child out ( that was where the devil got me FEAR!!!) After some time again she inserted her hand and had a strange look on her face. She said my cervix has closed back. And that she can't understand why.
That they will have to open me up.

Me: better o! What are you waiting for???? Pls fast o!!! But pls I'm asthmatic!! I dont take nsaid o!!! My first experience was bad pls mind what you give me.
Doc: is written on your folder already, you told us . So don't worry.

I held my leg up in the air.
Doc: bring your leg down pls.
Me: ha! This leg can not come down o! I want to shit.

I was administered Anastasia and the operation started. Mins into it fluid started filling my lungs, I cried out that I can't breath, pls i can't breathe, I'm asthmatic pls help..... unlike my first the men were gentle, this time na two women so non send me instead I was asked to keep quite.... hmmmmm... I started having panic attacks and started vibrating on the operating table.
I had chills, my hands were chilled.

Next I heard my baby's loud cry and they said wow! Big baby ( he weighed 3.7 at 36weeks and was very healthy too till today). We were wheeled into our room 9:30am wonderful mother-in-law and hubby had come. He was so excited.
I became drowsy from the painkiller and slept off. Woke up 2hrs later and the drama began. I was screaming to breath I couldn't there was confusion again, bring nubrillizer not helping. Open windows, put on ac, raised my bed for where. I was screaming "take me out of here I'm dying...... then they brought oxygen and gave me injections.

I became ok and could feel my head ahead. By then I became swollen and kept swelling really bad. My stomach and uterus kept growing larger and larger. My skin started bruising from the the stretch.... people because I was reacting to all painkillers I was left with only paracetamol injections that felt like oil and would swell the sight like stone. The kind of hotness it gives eh!! From head to ears to toes hehehe....that was all I was not reacting to. Major surgery only paracetamol for painkillers. Jesus!!! I saw hell. I will cry out in pain and my mother-in-law will cry along with me.

The woman suffered sha ( God bless her). The next day another doc came and felt pity for me. He called a lot of pharmacists if there was another alternative but non only low dose tramadol.... that wasn't doing anything for me. My bp get going higher and higher, I was under 24hr observation. I had to manage and walk to avoid blood clots, but the pain I was having was horrible. The more I walked the more swollen I got. I almost fell on the corridor and was taken back into my room by the nurses. By the 4th day before doc could come we were ready for discharge. Doc had no choice but to let us go ( wrong decision from us... bill no be here hehehe...)

We got home and tried arranging my son's room and stuffs doing lots of walking just to see if my body can reduce but the more I walked the more swollen I got. When I lay down and raised my legs up I got a bit relieved. On the 2nd day i was lying in the bed at night and the next thing i felt a hard hit on my head like hammer was used. The headaches increased I started shouting, my head! My head, I lay down it didn't stop I told my hubby to help me with the bp monitor. It was reading 180/115.i told my hubby to rush me to the hospital right away. While we were going my fingers were twisting and my face was moving backwards. The headaches are best imagined. I kept telling my hubby to drive fast so I dont have stroke.

We got to the hospital, I told the nurse that I was discharge 5days ago but that my bp is high now and my head is on fire. She checked and it was reading 270/140, she didn't say nothing, she rushed and got a wheel immediately and asked I sit down and not move wheeled me into doc's office and told him what was happening. He asked I be lifted and layed on the bed in his office, They started administering iv bp meds. It came down to 220/140..... I was told I was going to be admitted, so I called my mother-in-law to come with the baby that they are keeping me for the night. She came with him and hubby left for the house. I was wheeled upstairs and admitted. By 12AM I woke up and couldn't see anymore, I had a vision like little balls like floaters, I was not even seeing my mother-in-law's face or my baby's. I started crying and told her to call the doc. My head was still on fire.

The doc on night duty young man, he came I told him to check my bp again that my head is on fire and I was not seeing again. He said the nurse told him that she checked, i told him that was 1hr ago, he spoke grammar and left. I knew if something was not done it could turn bad I was afraid of having stroke. So I told my mother-in-law to call the 2nd doc. He came in I told him same thing, he said you are having headaches eh! I said yes he said ok sorry and left ( I guess sleep dey them more important cos even the nurse that came to check me was so upset and frowning, ontop una high Bill's?.) The doc told her to give me Diaz...... and tramadol 50mg and that was the last thing I remembered.

I opened my eyes and saw my hubby crying with mucus coming off his nose, mother-in-law crying, rolling on the floor and thanking God. Looked over and saw the senior doc with shocked eyes looking at me nurses where all saying thank God!!! Beeping machines all over me, hospital bed sheet over me, my pant I no see again na catheter and my pad. Blood on my bed from my lochia. I think I asked after my hubby and he came, trying to hide his face so I dont see he was crying. I was busy telling him sorry lol..... I think I slept off again. And by morning i sat up. The doc and nurses came and I heard them telling each other, if you see what happened here last night eh! God worked oh! If you see this eyes eh! They rolled over. The doc said I should not be anxious and try to rest, that they are surprised at my recovery levels. Test were done kidney, liver, lots of test. Ct-scan etc....

While sitting I asked my mother-in-law what happened, she said I shouldn't speak I should just rest. The more I tried to speak the more my lungs got drier and my tongue squeezes (maybe magsult to stop further seizures cos when I take water it clears out). The 2nd day they took out the catheter cos by then I had gotten UTI, so I tried going to urinate and almost fell, I couldn't walk anymore. Luckily hubby came fast and caught me, I started losing my hearing and went deaf. I feel into hubby's arms and told him I wasn't hearing him anymore so he took me to the bed and after sometime I started hearing again. God came through and all my test results came out good. We were discharged, I was given drugs both for controlling my panic levels and bp drugs.

I was told to check steady and run down to the hospital should I notice anything.

We got home and i was finding it hard to sleep i kept seeing dead people. My bp kept raising at every little things as little as walking down the stairs. that they had to up my bp doses every 6hrs. So I had another infection and was placed on antibiotics. I went to the hospital to see the doc and I opened up to him that I dont know what was happening I was becoming depressed, lacking sleep and seeing dead people, he happened to be a pastor. He told I and hubby that I died that night, that whatever happened was done by God.... there was no pulse for long, and that cos I have defeated death I have no relationship with the dead he prayed for me and I prayed in my heart each time I wanted to sleep. I got home and asked my mother-in-law what happened.

She opened up to me that at 3am she noticed I started acting strange, telling her to look after my children, I started foaming from my mouth and my eyes rolling backwards. She ran out and started shouting for all to come and when they came I started screaming and fighting the nurses (my wrist was dislocated that night, everything that happened I knew nothing of it.) Next I started having seizure, it was so bad that she ran and couldn't watch me in that state. They couldn't handle me and had to call the senior doc before he came I gave up. But he didn't give up and started working on my lifeless body........

God really showed himself and i am grateful for being alive....

Wow....Thank God for your life!!!!

If there are any changes in your body or body fluids, especially urine, head to the hospital straight. From your story, I presume you went from pre eclampsia to full blown eclampsia and only very few women survive it. The itching was your liver shutting down! Hmm, madam, God truly loves you but please ladies love yourselves ooo!

    22. I had to wait a whole day to read this second part chronicle. I had tears in my eyes reading this TESTIMONY. A lot of things she described I never have words for. It was so vivid. I felt it not necessarily from a similar experience.
Ma'am, this has reassured my hope and belief in God.
May we be surrounded by competent people (doctors especially) who don't give up on us at the drop of an hat.
If my dad had this kind of doctor at his beck, he probably would still be with us today.
      Still God is ever awesome.

Its advisable that pregnant women follow doctors advice religiously,if you have doubt6 ,visit another hospital. You can use private and Government hospital. DON'T RELY ON GOOGLE FOR SERIOUS ISSUES..

    1. Thank you Emerald. I was angry at first. This is a lesson to everyone, please always follow your doctor's directives and do as you're told. How can you compare a 2mins read in Google to years of study and practice of your doctor's?

    2. There is nothing wrong in using Google to fact check. She admitted her search was incomplete because she didn't add pregnancy to the search criteria.
Using Google is infact an essential tool that everyone with internet access should use to confirm their symptoms and treatment recommended by the doctors tally.

    3. Anon, you see that Google, sometimes it can give someone heart attack.

I hate using it when I'm ill.

    4. Using google is not bad. It warms you with the right question to ask your doctor. I always google before asking my doctor. Her own is worse because the question was incomplete, she didnt take her drugs and she didnt tell the drs the truth during antenatal. Thank God for your recovery. It is wll with u IJN

    5. Exactly @ Swag. I was once sick, Googled the symptoms and it was showing HIV. I died and woke up, like WTF. Went and ran tests in three different places and it was just acute malaria.

BP in pregnancy is not to be joked with
Prime Medicals is a great hospital for childbirth, expensive but worth it.
I remember Dr Ada. No nonsense woman.
When I was pregnant for my first child, a woman that was attending antenatal with me had very high BP and was asked to come for induction by 5pm.
She told me she was scared, I encouraged her and took her number to keep in touch.
Called her the the next morning to congratulate her and she told me she asked her pastor and pastor told her not to go for induction, it was not God's will.
She stuck to guns. I gave birth a few days later.
She called about a month after I gave birth and was crying that she lost the baby weeks back.
She blamed herself for not getting induced.
God has given doctors wisdom to guide us and we should lean on the words of our doctors.
I am angry that you nearly lost your life over your own actions.
Everyone reading this, BP and placenta previa in pregnancy are not jokes, please follow doctors advice religiously!

    1. I just had my daughter via cs. Had a myomectomy last year and doctors (my brother inclusive) advised me not to bother trying a vaginal birth as the timing was too close to the last surgery. I was using a private hospital but because of how expensive it was I begged my husband to let me to the teaching hospital( I wasn't working so I was pitying him, imagine pitying one who isn't pitying himself). First day at the teaching hospital because of the crowd,I was attended to by a CNO. I opened up to her about my medical history but she said she won't write it on my card and I shouldn't tell the doctors as there was nothing God cannot do. I just looked at her and nodded. Baby that came as a miracle is what I should gamble with abi?? Thank you ma! The next appointment I had there I quickly told the doctor my history she went to call a senior colleague and they told me point blank that its CS o. When I told my husband everything he said I obviously don't value my life that's why I'm going to where they are advising me to use faith in spite of what's glaring. I ran back to my private hospital multi specialist hospital jeje. Just imagine if I was uninformed and decided to follow the nurse's advice. Only God knows what would have happened to me and the baby

  66. Madam hang boot infact throw boot away. May the devil not get us through childbirth. There's something I've noticed if the death wants to take someone through child birth only God can save.

We need to start changing how we think about having only a child. After going through a difficult life threatening experience to have a child, maybe that should be enough for us. It's hard but what women go through. I've a friend that has experienced different traumatic episodes in the name of child birth. I told her, to stop, let God bless the one she has. She was saying igbo men love many children blah blah. She was willing to keep risking her life just to fulfil some perceived obligation.

I had to poke my nose and talk to the husband, that it's like the devil wants to get your wife through childbirth but I know you love children. To my surprise the man shared exactly the same sentiments, that he prefers his wife to be alive. May God bless all mothers.
