Mrs Dee's Corner - Pregnant Women Who Skip Recommended Medication

The journey to motherhood is one that requires adequate preparation mentally, physically, health-wise, psychologically and spiritually.

It's not a go-with the flow kind of journey, but one that demands making conscious decisions even when we do not feel like it.

Pregnancy, especially in its early stage is a trying time for most mothers-to-be and even when there is no appetite for food, it's only wise to eat for the sake of the growing foetus/foeti.

I suffered severe nausea during my first pregnancy and I was unable to keep any food down, but I always managed to eat something no matter how small to enable me take my routine drugs.

I never joked with it because I knew the effect it could have on my babies and even during antenatal classes, we were always lectured about the first 1000 days of a child and the importance of good nutrition for babies' developments.

A very close friend has been in and out of the hospital because of her little child. At first the doctors were worried on what could be wrong with the child since she's not a sickler, but on further investigation, it was discovered that the mum never took her routine drugs during pregnancy because she hated it.

This is someone that is educated and should know better taking this kind of risk with the life of her child.

It's not enough to get pregnant and birth a baby, every necessary step must be taken to ensure that the correct steps are taken to ensure the baby will have a healthy life....

Some women do not even taken vitamins or folic acid all through their pregnancies......
If you cannot afford common folic acid, then do not have a baby yet,use a condom!!!

  1. That folic acid leaves some nasty taste in thé mouth. I have to take it with soda or juice or yogurt or wrapped inside eba. I can stand PregnaTone to an extent. Honestly, I’m (getting) tired 😩.

    3. Eeyah, sorry. It was B-complex that was always leaving the nasty taste in my mouth and the smell is crazy! It was changed when I registered for my ANC and I started taking Pregna-multi, that was better.

Tell them at the hospital when you for your ANC appointment, they will give you something better. It is well with you.

    4. I didn't take my drugs during my first pregnancy, I thought it wouldn't matter but my baby came out looking so dirty with whitish substance all over his body.the nurse scolded me seriously that I didn't take my drugs. During my second pregnancy, I didn't joke with my routine drugs and my baby's skin was so smooth at birth. Pregnant mothers pls try as much as possible to take ur drugs,it matters a lot.

    5. Anon 12:38, that nurse was talking in the nonsense. There is no connection between routine drugs and the amount of vernix a baby is born with.

Folic acid is crucial especially bin the first 12weeks of pregnancy.
It ensures the baby has a well formed spinal cord and prevents a condition known as spina bifida.
The ferrous tablets boosts your blood level and bcomplex ensures your general well-being

  2. I guess Mrs. Dee is talking to those who eat indomie and drink coke and boast that they have eaten.
Truth be told, a lot of Nigerians do not know what healthy diet it. Or they choose to eat junk just because they don't want to be seen eating "native foods". Those native food "efo riro, okro and egusi soup" are
most nutritious. Some of these ladies that are 24 hours on social media do not even know how to cook them.
Or some like to do something sharp sharp so as to join the social media gossip.
And in pregnancy, they begin to see
    their years of silliness unravel.

    1. Mstchew, you must always talk out of context, so much bitterness in one person.

Abeg, my dears, once you start trying for a baby, whether you eat healthy
or not, take one folic acid everyday.

Then when you get pregnant, continue to use your pregnancy vitamins and register for antenatal clasees as early as 6weeks.

Take whatever medication you are given seriously, have a blood pressure monitor in the house, do all your blood tests, disclose any medical condition you have, take your routine drugs judiciously, eat healthy and not for 2.

May the Lord answer those trusting God for the fruit of the womb, amen. May those pregnant carry their babies to full term and birth healthy babies without complications, amen.

    2. Judge Judy, how do you know they don't want to be seen eating native foods? The way some of you write eh, like you live in everyone's head.

    7. What does social media have to do with this particular conversion, do you think anyone would just want to eat indomie and coke?

People should realize that every pregnancy is different.

My sister couldn't even eat, she was basically on drip for months, i couldnt eat anything but pap and few fried plantain chips or I'll just have tea.
No one wants to suffer their own child, its just different and some people have it worse.

Stop condemning people when you havent walked in their shoes?

If you were a super woman during yours, good for you, dont just put anyone down.

To all pregnant women if you cant stand the taste of these vitamins look for those that come inform of candy (sweets) or gummy bears... It'll have the same effect.

    8. Thanks.
Don't tell this to a woman who has Hyperemesis G. Every pregnancy is different, if you can take it, take it. If you can't take it during pregnancy, take it before and build your stores. That's all I'll say

The only thing was that all the vomit i didnt vomit during my early pregnancy and all i did it the day i gave birth. Glory be to God.

    1. You see me eh, right from when I was kid I was never scared of drugs or needles but when I become preggy I can not abide the smell of drugs, it was awful abeg! I do not take routine drugs, if they give me at the clinic, i trash it when I get home, the only drug I took religiously was malaria prevention and because you have to take it at the hospital with the nurse watching you swallow it🤣🤣, the nurse said a lot of preggy woman do not take it when they get home so they make you take it in front of them.
I do have severe nausea and I loose appetite when preggy but it gets better by my third trimester.
Anyhoo one lady adviced me to take a lot of fruits, esp red fruits cuz it makes baby skin clean and smooth and my kids come out looking very fresh. Just take a lot of fruits, another thing I do is that squeeze the juice out of garden egg leaf and drink at least once a month. I take zobo too(We were adviced not to at the clinic) but I avoid the ones made with ginger.

  15. What about those stubborn ones who will go ahead to conceive again against Doctor's advise. Then turn around and blame everyone but themselves.

Or the ones who lie to a new Dr that their previous delivery was vaginal while it's cs! "Keep playing with your lives you hear!!

Or the ones who are stubborn to sign CS form, claiming i must deliver vaginally, my pastor said yen yen yen! No knife will cut me.
Keep playing with your life you hear!!

I just remembered one incidence in Calabar Teaching hospital, a pregnabt young woman was in labour, her mum was with her.

During Doctor's cross-examination, he realized her cervix hasn't experienced child passage before, but this girl and her mum insisted her previous delivery was vaginal so refused to sign the consent form for cs. All the staff please to go for cs fell on deaf ears! Mama was busy praying and kabashing!

Hours passed, she became weak, of course she was not dilating, then suddenly a loud sound was heard in the ward, everybody turned to the direction of the sound, guess what??

The young girl was in a pool of her own blood, her womb got ruptured!
blood was gushing from everywhere eyes, mouth, nose ear name it.
She died under 2 mins. Her baby was so weak from the struggle and died too.

Then her mum started screaming, Doctors please help my daughter, yes her previous birth was cs. But we left the hospital we usually use because they said it's cs or nothing!
I told her never to agree she used cs when asked! That I, her mother never used cs to birth my kids. Please bring my daughter back! Save my daughter!!

Imagine the nonsense! I was and still heartbroken!!!
How could you be this callous in your ignorance and stupidity? ??

The hospital was gloomy that day! The sound of the ruptured womb haunted us oo!
We cried because it was an avoidable death! Such a young girl of 27 years!
I am just sad remembering this incidence!!
Women listen very well, follow religiously whatever your Doc tells you! Ask questions too.
Close your ears to Pastors and prophets!

If you don't have money, sign the form first, let you and your child be saved, then you can think of how to pay!

  16. Drugs or no drugs I think pregnancy and delivery is the grace of God. In my first pregnancy I never knew I was suppose to lots of drugs, the only thing I took was my folic acid in my first 2months, I only started taking calcium and blood supplement a few days to my delivery, my boy is healthy and hardly falls sick. My second pregnancy that I started taking heaven on earth drugs ended in stillbirth.. In all, God's grace on mothers and intending mothers.
