Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), says Kogi rejected the help offered by the agency to ascertain the COVID-19 situation in the state.
The Kogi state government had alleged that there are attempts to declare fake COVID-19 cases in the state.
When a delegation from the NCDC visited the state on Thursday night, Yahaya Bello, the governor, asked the team to go on 14-day isolation or leave the state immediately. The team then returned to Abuja.
Speaking at the presidential task force briefing on Friday, the NCDC boss said they can only offer help when it is needed.
“We can only offer help where it is wanted. Yesterday, we offered that help but it wasn’t in a place where the help could be accepted. Unfortunately, that was what happened last night,” Ihekweazu said.

Hmmmmmmm..
ReplyDeleteThat's smart! They should not infest their states with the virus.
Delete#ManLikeYahayaBello, Be Like Yahaya Bello! Kogi has created an app that can diagnose, prevent and cure Covid-19, the app even has palliative distribution feature on it!!! π π π
DeleteLol π
DeleteSuch arrogance.
ReplyDeleteThat's how my state forged about two covid cases..Naija sef.Ncdc why not conduct tests in States with covid cases??
ReplyDeleteHe can't need their help na, he already has an app that can detect Covid-19 which he distributed to all Kogites. Bello is working!
ReplyDeleteApp ko apple ni. A state where 70% of their medical doctors don resign finish na im get app. Na lie dnt mind Yeye Bello.
DeleteThe isolation center he built with white canopy na in front of morgue he built am for FMC in Lkj. Na God we dey beg as we dey Lkj so.
exactly, the world need to learn a thing or two from the smart governor. deployer of apps. I'm ashamed of our leaders
DeleteIf it's wike that did what Bello did to the NCDC team Abuja would have declared war
ReplyDeleteTo think that this clown is a young man who should known better. God forbid.
ReplyDeleteBello be deceiving himself. If tests are not carried out how do people want to know if they are positive.
ReplyDeleteThe governor has a valid point by asking the officials to self isolate for 14 days or leave. Top officials in the government know what we don't know. Don't be quick to point accusing fingers
ReplyDeleteYou're saying the NCDC who has testing kits to test others should isolate themselves?? What a wawu!
DeleteIn the face of an emergency, Liz? 2 weeks that infections continue to spread?!? Are you ok at all???
DeleteAnons if you disagree with his decision, travel to his state and tell him!!!!
DeleteAre they immune to the virus? NO. Did they prescribe 14 days isolation for people who have had contact with infected people? YES. So why did they refuse to be tested. It's simple. Test the officials that came, let the ones that test positive leave immediately and the ones that are negative should stay.
DeleteIf NCDC officials are too big for testing and isolation then something is wrong.
Abi you want them to come and spread the virus.
If there was covid in kogi we for Don hear am since, I have people in kogi and so far there has been no strange death which should be expected if the virus is there just as it happened in kano.
Lets not bother ourselves with this brouhaha, Bello knows more than he is saying.

DeleteInterstate borders are closed for a reason, this is to avoid and prevent others probably coming from a state where it has recorded cases and have a slight chance of having it from spreading it right?
So why not isolate for the required two weeks rule which the same NCDC are letting us know its very necessary and important? Let them ho to states who have high cases and high chances of people who in one way or another might already have itππͺ... The citizens have not sent any SOS and no news have been carried out of strange deaths in the state
Maaaaad people!!!! So you're saying the NCDC that sent people to carry out the testing won't also make sure the people themselves follow due procedure??. Aren't they the ones doing the work, won't they know better in a case like this?!?!
DeleteKaaaii... all of you here and that yeye governor know what una dey hide. Continue oo God will surely save His children.
Ndi uchu!
Doctors in Kogi State have been raising the alarm for weeks. They're seeing suspected COVID cases, but the state government refuses to test. What a governor.
ReplyDeleteWe have heard of index cases who were travelers (even doctors) from other States.
ReplyDeleteWe heard of the fruit; Paw Paw testing positive to Covid19 and how most test kits have been contaminated.
We Nigerians also cried out that the Chinese doctors be quarantined.
We have also heard of frontline workers being affected most.
So please what is wrong with the Governor asking frontline workers from outta state to test for the Virus?
They need to know their status and if the test comes out positive, then they have to be quarantined?
Blind man no fit lead way o, else las las egungun go enter express
Let them do the needful.
With all these conspiracy theories flying, I support the Governor’s decision.
If they know they are negative and have nothing to hide, isn’t it the norm that they do a test.
I have employees from Kogi state and till today, none of them told me they got calls from their village that their brother’s sister’s uncle’ s wife’ in-law’s grandmother’s nephew’s nieces’ cousin, father’s, mother’s aunty’s grandfather died or is sick.
Yes it is a large population in Kogi, but I personally know at least 10 people that were infected with the virus in ALL EUROPE ( EU) and UK, this is including my younger sister.
If Kogi isn’t recording unusual death increase and the hospitals and ICU aren’t filled up, then there is something the governor and health workers are doing right in that state.
Covid19 is real but this Nigeria own politics enter am pass.
Kogi state..... They have an app....smh
ReplyDeleteUntil Yahaya Bello gets COVID19 he will continue to let people die in that state instead of testing and curbing the spread
ReplyDeletePerhaps there is something that Gov. Yahaya knows which NCDC know cos it's only a tree π² that hears that it will be cut down and continues standing sentary.
ReplyDeleteMy NYSC was in Kogi,Ibaji LGA to be precise and i know the level of illiteracy, poverty and isolation from civilization and modernisation there,so it's disheartening for the Governor handling this situation as ia personal issue/vendatta.
There is every probably that this virus is wrecking havoc there already based on the situation there. So let the Governor stop this his showmanship and own up.This is a battle that requires collective efforts to fight.
#LOVEπ
Whether he lied or not the NCDC should be the bigger person and accept to his terms then expose the states lapses... No need for all the who be oga attitude in this time they both work for the people. Nigerian in power no matter how small develops a "GOD COMPLEX"
