Couch Convo -Taboos For Married Couples In Your Tribe

This post is inspired by the shocking tradizion of the Ishan people concerning a couple......To say i was shocked is putting it lightly...
It occurred to me that other tribes also have traditions which might shock me even more.....

What Taboos are tied to Marriages in your tribe?

I am Isoko but i really don't know what taboos tie to Marrying an Isoko man....

I am just wondering why the woman has to pay the price for the same thing the man does and gets away with it...why?
He cheats,he is free, she cheats all hell breaks loose.....

    2. Any thing about Enugwu Agidi? I married there but hubby was born in and brought up in the North. Dude cannot speak Igbo to save his life. I'm sure he knows nothing about their customs and traditions

  2. Nobody gets away with adultery before God. Only a genuine repentance can spare such a fellow. I guess it happens to Isoko women and generally we ladies are blamed for adultery/fornication because we submit ourselves to men. It is not the other way round. A man does not decide if fornication should take place. If he takes decision and carry it out without the consent of the lady, it is rape. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

  4. There is no taboo attached to marriage in my country. I am a citizen of heaven and "MARRIAGE IS HONORABLE, the marriage bed undefiled for Jesus the president of my nation will judge adulterers and all the sexually immoral" Heb. 13:4

  5. Its a taboo to take money from men without informing your husband.
When you cheat on your husband, your first son will fall sick and your man will die if he partakes in the proceed from your infidelity whether knowing or not.
Family planning is prohibited, until a ritual is performed after having the number of children you both want.
Abortion is also prohibited whether married or not.

But the joy in all of this, is if you are in Christ you're at liberty, not to sin though.

    1. Incest. If not tixed, every male child from the clan starts dying mysteriously. Starting from 1st sons .How to fix it, the party involved will go naked in d present of certain elders , clothing they both wore d day Dey did the do, the bedsheets and mattress will be burnt, a ram is presented to b killed by the man by continuously punching it. Tribe IBo; Ogidi to b precise. Does it still happen YES.

    8. Ms tee,I don't think it's as effective as the one in OTUKPA BENUE STATE.
A man/woman cannot give head or receiVe head.
A woman cannot commit abortion and if she does,it mustn't be money from an otukpa man or her father and she cannot stay in the same roof with her father, and she cannot serve her father/brothers food because its considered a taboo.
If a woman cheats on her husband, she must confess or she stops cooking or serving him food both on the table and on the bed,and if she does, she must confess and a black goat be bought to cleanse her of her atrocity and imagine the shame it will bring to the family.
      They're so many jare.

      So right.

Many towns in Idemmili LGAs,the 2 parties involved, brother inlaw and sister inlaw, father inlaw and daughter inlaw, whichever.
Both naked, with palm fronds tied round their waists,a snail tied round the woman's breast and a tiny bell tied to his penis, they will match from the Igwe's Palace to the market square were cleansing rituals will be performed at the middle of the market to appease the gods,if not tragedies will occur.

      Incest is forbidden!
      Teach your kids on time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't really know what are the taboos in my father's or mother's side. And, I don't believe in anything traditions. I only follow biblical principles

Committing adultery in marriage is both biblically and morally wrong whether it is committed by the wife or the husband.

I think generally in Edo state, when a woman commits adultery, it is the man and the children that physically pays the price.
I say traditions were set up to be against women and the poor.

You just stated that when a woman commits adultery in Edo state, the husband & children physically pay for it.

Kindly elucidate how this particular tradition is against women.

It’s like that where I’m from...but only the husband bears the consequence.

Anno 14:12,warri is not urhobo, warri is wplace in delta and it a place owned by the itshekiris but it is dominated by other tribes. It is city not a villiage. The urhobos, the ijaws, the igbos, the yorubas, etc all live there.

So go to typical urhobo village to know if it is true or not. The urhobo women in warri that you feel are cheating on their husbands with no consequences are those that their bride price have not been paid.Nothing will happen because no tradition is binding them together.

  19. Where I am from, if the woman is engaged in Adultery, her child dies. To avoid such, she can tell the family who will carry out some traditional rites.

  23. in my place, if women cheat the gods will strike her bad well, i have cheated with multiple men and nothing has happened.....Oga's place, allegedly, its also a taboo for the wife to cheat and he knows ....anyway, he caught me on one of my paroles and reported me to his folks, they did nothing because even with their evidence i straight up denied it and nothing has happened off it - inlaws dont do fetish anyway because they are born again.

It is my belief that those Taboo's are fables, legit fables meant to scare women from cheating....my first cousin is married to an esan man. Infact, after her traditional wedding she told us her mother inlaw, oldest sil and a relative of her hubby woke her up at night to perform some type of ritual with the blood of a goat that was killed in her presence ....apparently, this is part of their gimmicks!!! she was livid because her hubby never told her of this part nor did anything to stop his folks when she expressed concerns about that ritual. Even to allow her ring her folks and inform them during the process he refuse so she emotionally checked out from that marriage.....his first and second sons are for different men and so far, nothing like repercussions!! can i add she is now a grandma still married.....

Now they are talking of sacrifice, death and other things that would be the portion of their generations. RUBBISH. please if any one comes to make noise under this comment, sleep with their husbands and ensure they are driven out. Palm frond ko, palm wine ni 🙄😏😒

Another one is if your husband catch you on bed with another man and he didn't make blood come out from the person's body he will die if you cook for him.

The people shouting no taboo don't travel nor know about their village culture.most might be born and breed in the city with busy parents..

In my town Nanka, a widow is prohibited from seeing her spouse corpse. There is consequence of doing so. Some do see, while young widows avoid public seeing.

Mention your town to help people with the information.

  29. None in my side but we all know cheating is bad and immoral. I've heard of some ridiculous ones like women not allowed to use contraceptives and in some families where women must remarry the husband's kin if she ever becomes a widow. I knew that was practised long ago and then it wasn't even compulsory but its mandatory in some families, if not terrible things will befall the widow and her children.

Let's all investigate and know these taboos and fully disclose them to our intended. Give your intended the opportunity to back out if they know they won't be able to deal with it.

If there is anything like that in my part of Enugu State, half of the married people there would've been all dead by now.
Cheating on themselves is becoming like a sport... So humiliating!!
It wasn't like that growing up but this younger generation, i have no word to describe the kind of acts i hear they commit regarding unfaithfulness!!! Jesus fix them, Amen 👏
