    1. Probably not. Could have been in a bid to protect the child. You bring a child close to your bosom to protect him or her, even if it's a ten year old child.

    2. The mother was not breastfeeding, she was holding her child to her chest to comfort the child and hold unto it as the mud overcame them. The child died in the protective embrace of his/her mum. See as her head is upturned as if in supplication. Sad image but showing the powerful love of a mum.
