Labour Room Drama 290

Oh Dear!!!!!!

My LRD is really just me giving a testimony of how God preserved me and my baby. It's a long read so pardon me and hopefully it won't be too boring.

Sometime last July, I took in after about 8 months of getting wedded(by choice). I knew I was pregnant already even before I carried out any test because I usually monitored my cycle like a clockwork. So when my period delayed by 3days, we knew we had eaten the proverbial "toad" that leaves the mouth oily and the tummy big.

I know everyone would say they were excited when they discovered that they were pregnant but for me, it was a mixed feeling. I was both excited and scared like, "shey is me like this that doesn't have sense that wants to born pikin?" Lol. Anyway, my hubby, my family and his family were all excited when they discovered that I had taken in.

My pregnancy was running smoothly. As a matter of fact, I was getting so much attention from not just my mum(I'm her last child) but also from my "parents in love"(My hubby is the last child too). I didn't bother registering for antenatal early as opposed to what first time mums would do. I didn't have any morning sickness or pregnancy cravings. We were so chilled with the pregnancy because we had a good support system.

By the fifth month, we finally decided to go for our first doctors appointment and that was when we discovered that I had Placenta Previa 4( major low lying placenta). The doctor said that if it remained that way till my due date, I would have to birth my baby via Csection but that in some cases, it usually moved. I was like ok no problem "I pray it moves".

One night, that's about a week after the doctor's appointment, I bled, so we went to see the doctor and he said it was because of the previa that if the baby kicks at it, I would bleed and if we had s#x, I would bleed. So apparently, I had to be on bed rest for a while and avoid strenuous stuff. Everything was fine and going smoothly until my 7month, the morning of my birthday.

I began to bleed again and this time it was more than the last time.

That morning was the first time I actually noticed my husband was visibly scared even though he tried to hide it. He however manned up, cleaned the blood stained floor and washed the sheets that was messed up. We dressed up and went to church (it was a sunday) acting like nothing had happened. We came back home to the surprise birthday party he had planned for me prior to the whole bleeding saga. We partied and then when everybody left, we got into the car and drove to his parents base(weird us I know lol). That was the last time I stepped foot in my house until I put to bed.

My "parents in love" were so pissed at us for treating the whole issue with so much laxity so they made us register at another hospital there in their base.

This time it was a specialist hospital that had a renowned gynaecologist who attended to me and made me stay at the hospital for two days. After I was discharged, that night, I began to bleed again and this time, it was coming out like a tap had been turned on. I was rushed back to the hospital were I was given 3 pints of blood.

They contemplated carrying out the surgery but waited a bit to see if I would stop bleeding which I eventually did. So that was how I became an "executive tenant"(in the words of the doctors and nurses lol)at the hospital. All the nurses and doctors became my friends. Some of the nurses would even come stay with me in my room to chat and keep me company when no one was with me.

My case was managed till the 37th week(just two days to hit 38weeks). The morning I had my csection, my Favourite doctor had told me he would want to carry out the surgery that day but I told him no that I wanted it to be two days after so that my baby would share the same birth date as his uncles. Unfortunately and fortunately, that same night, I began to bleed again and this time my favourite doctor wasn't around.

The nurses and doctor on duty began to run around to get things ready for a csection. The doctor on duty when trying to look for my vein kept on making mistakes and so he poked me in several places. I didn't even know when I told him to allow the nurse do it if he couldn't( I think he was nervous). In my mind I was praying it wouldn't be the doctor on duty who would deliver me of my baby cos the mistakes he was making at the time was making me scared and unsure of his abilities.

As I was being prepared for the theatre, I turned and noticed my favourite doctor badge in. Apparently one of the nurses called him and told him and so he drove straight from his house at 12midnight. I broke into a smile and said "Docy you're here, thank you". I was given a general anaesthesia and so I blacked out and woke to the most handsome healthy little boy ever while surrounded by my mum, husband and mum in love.

All the nurses and doctors came to see me and the baby when they heard I had delivered. They were so happy for their "executive tenant"(I think I was their longest staying patient ever). That whole period was a really trying moment even though I might give up the vibe that it wasn't. I don't think anyone who bled as much as I did would still have a baby or their life even but God kept us and for that, I'm eternally grateful to Him and the team of doctors/nurses He used.

Baby dust to everyone trying to conceive!

*You took a big risk my dear but thank God you are OK.......I always recommend one sees a doctor as soon as they realise they are pregnant..it is very important!!!

  11. Congratulations ma'am.I have come to the understanding that it is God that delivers in miraculous ways. I pray He comes through for all pregnant BVs irrespective of the complications.
When I had my first child.I was General Secretary at the Federal Medical Center. I was on drips for 7 months because my body couldn't tolerate anything. I use to collect DSTv money from those that came to deliver.I later left the President and Vice there when I felt better. How the baby grew was all God. She came out 3.5kg.

  15. Thanks everyone and thank you too Stella. I'll be more careful on y next and final baby journey.

Ps: From my time at the hospital and seeing all those women in labour, I don't think I'm interested in the natural delivery method again.
Csection is faster and in my case, by two weeks, I had gotten myself plus my tummy(which was my biggest fear about CS) after a month snapped back.
I don't know if there are other people who prefer Csection or I'm I weird?

But the doctor might not have been making a mistake. I have tiny veins so I have to be poked 3 or 4 times before they can get the right vein, so you probably have tiny veins too
