Weekend Arena - 2Baba ,His Baby Mamas And The Reason He Married Annie...

Which man suffering from inferiority complex would serially impregnate a string of successful women? Some not once, but twice?

I love Innocent Idibia as much as I love 2Baba. The two personalities have resoundingly radiated one virtue I admire greatly in people: humility.

When you crisscross the creative industry, where stardom is the license to wealth and wellbeing, you will understand why humility is such a priced attribute, when defining a successful artiste. 2Baba does not just have it; humility wafts from him!

Lacing it appropriately with talent has placed him at the zenith of his career, and he is poised to remain there for long, because he does his thing effortlessly from within.

When the story of an interview he granted DJ Anyaloko about his choice of wife made the rounds some days ago, I knew it was going to generate a lot of analyses. He was quoted to have said: “You see Annie is from an average background like myself. We both started from nothing. She stuck by me through it all. When there was no car she hopped on bikes, took the bus and trekked with me. When there was no money or house or hit song or millions of albums sold or big awards and accolades. When I used to repeat just 3 sets of clothes, she would always hold my head, look me in the eyes and tell me things will be fine one day. When I wasn’t handsome, she would call me her prince charming. When I wasn’t celebrated, she called me her king and said she is my number one fan and to this day, she still is. Now if am still that small boy struggling to make it like every other young chap on the streets of Lagos, do you think a doctor, a lawyer and a multi-millionaire business woman would want to look at me or even have my kids? No, so to answer your question, I did not chose who had more to offer me, I chose Annie because she offered me her all when we had very little”.

This naturally did not go down well with some people for obvious reasons. Several interpretations were given to his gesture and stance as it got reposted on a number of timelines on the social media. Some (including those probably married as fifth wives) chastised Annie Macaulay for accepting him back when it was obvious he had cheated on her. Some called him ‘insecure’, a man with inferiority complex, who lacks what it takes to date very successful women, as exemplified by the baby-mamas. Some praised the baby-mamas for proving to the world that there was life beyond 2Baba by succeeding against all odds. In the shadow of these responses, you could see where everyone’s interest or grouse was hidden.

But the guy has made his choice with seemingly plausible reasons!

Yes, the baby-mamas may have, by virtue of genealogy, connection or sheer hard work made so much money; it does not in any way diminish the achievements of Annie Macaulay, who does not stand at Obalende Bridge to beg for alms in order to survive. She is by all standards accomplished in her career as well.

That she probably worked a little harder, as it seems, in order to build her relationship which metamorphosed into marriage does not in any way make her unsuccessful like those pundits were propounding. Those pundits should learn to appreciate that one can successfully combine feminism, good marriage and impressive career growth. It is a choice buoyed by effective communication amongst spouses. Simple.

I remember when her family was hired for a certain commercial for a very popular brand I was involved in. She pushed to have the story board of the commercial modified to accommodate her children and step-children; instead of 2 kids, like most commercials show us, the advert ended up with more children in the family. A lot of these pundits won’t bat an eyelid if presented with this scenario, without knowing it is a formidable test for homemaking skills.

This makes one wonder where the inferiority complex being projected on those timelines about 2Baba lies. Which man suffering from inferiority complex would serially impregnate a string of successful women? Some not once, but twice?

May be we should examine inferiority complex against the reality of being a singer on a stage. Most people at various stages of their lives dreamt of being musicians or at least recording songs. Some would start in the bathroom and transform to writing down these songs, to may be, getting them recorded in a studio. But we all know the kind of energy required to push a career in music, especially when one is coming from a less-privileged background. E no easy at all. Someone who cannot muster the right dose of energy and confidence cannot do it. In fact, if there is a place where inferiority complex is thrown out of the window to pave way for success, it is in music, where every line of one’s lyrics is relayed to prove self-worth.

May be 2Baba was living up to the name of his initial band: Plantashun Boiz (Plantation Boys), as in boys who are out to ‘plant’. Is there any farm to plant in Lagos with flyovers, bridges and high-rises? No. So he ‘planted’ in the farms made available by these baby-mamas.

Thank God, it is a thing of joy today for all involved.

*Nice One Ngozi the Mgbafor,I like how you entered each plot and demolished it....Kudos for the nice writeup!

    3. And who the frog is the examiner or score card holder for this "formidable text for home making skills"?

"But we all know the kind of energy required to push a career in music, especially when one is coming from a less-privileged background. E no easy at all" What does he even mean by these sentences? If it was a woman, every mosquito will whine and call her a prostitute/runs girl but is ok when he does it bah. Same thing with Psquare.

    4. But the women that intentionally had children for him outside wedlock are what???

Dress as you want to be addressed, please.

I am yet to see women like them compete to have children for that ordinary labourer on the street. 😏

  2. Tu face aka tu baba! May God be with you and your family.
Sincerely, its not easy to be famous, rich and cute as a man, women oo,ladies ooo, sisters ooo will flock round you. Some ladies use jazz so they can just have a one night stand with these famous people but these celebrities too don't move closer to God.
I remember when tuface just started,he was invited to my university and we had to pay 200naira then,I was able to go but I saw students fainting just because of tu face and trying to get closer to him by fire by force before bodyguards carried those ladies away.
The people I so much respect for now is Simi and Adekunle Gold. The look like well brought up children and I pray nothing comes in between them...Amen

This is true love and the ultimate of it all. I so much love his humility and style. Aside his baby mama brouhaha, there has never been any scandal associated with him.

    1. I beg it doesn’t always work. When I was younger I offered my bobo my all. When things got better he chose someone else and married her. Now they are divorced and he is coming to form I made a mistake and should have married u. Imagine?? I am married with my own kids now and I thank God everyday for making him choose someone else. I won’t have had my awesome family now. Who knows he may have divorced me as well.

    2. Yes anonymous 14:39
It doesn't always work that way. But sometimes, some ladies don't give their all - may be just their emotional self. And like love is not enough in a relationship, so is solely emotional commitment.
In the end everyone know what they are looking out for, because our priorities differ.

    3. You wouldn't understand where 2baba was coming from. I still remember those days at Water Parks, Ikeja. Those days, up and coming no be beans o. She was there and stil stuck her shadow in while "them" super ladies prowled.
Thankfully everyone cof them is married now.

    5. It's NOT true love. Don't get it twisted. A man who truly loves you would not put you through the hell Tubaba put Annie through.

    6. 19:25 thank u. U do not have to put me through all that if u love me. Marriage to him should not be like a prize!!!

    7. Ebony Oge, you've said it all.

19:25, Chocolat Noir, Hurpe and others, find what true love IS TO YOU and stick to it.
Your definition IS NOT what works for Tubaba and Annie. I'm glad they found their OWN true love BEYOND what society says, and are together.
You don't know what works for them or gives them fulfillment in each other.
      Leave them be.

DON'T FORCE your expectations on others.

  4. Thank you Ngọzi, I really like your segment and the way you write 😊

I don't know why many people especially women are against Annie Macaulay. Its not even like she boost about any of her achievement.

It was wrong that tuface couldn't keep his John Thomas in his pants, but, he choose Annie and Annie choose him too. They are happy the way they are.

    1. Ms.A I totally agree with you. I see no reason why people keep dragging Annie.

      Delete
    2. You have said it all.
She has been through a lot because of tuface. She was beaten by one of the baby mamas then while pregnant, and she lost the baby too.

      Delete
    3. It is only jealous and stupid people that drags her.

      Delete
    4. 💖👌 @Ms A.

The critics probably want what Annie has like those babymamas that rushed in for the fame.
A woman knows her safe period but they chose to get pregnant for a man who did not chose them. (marriage)

Married men still go out there and sire babies outside wedlock while some married women have babies for other men yet these critics are on Annie and Tubaba's marriage.

    1. I don't think it is low self esteem either. It all boils down on being disciplined. 2face wasn't, even being broke didn't make him disciplined but as long as they are happy, what's my own 🤷‍♀️.

      I wish them well.

  12. Nice write up nice write up, no lady wants to make the effort and be a partner they all wan ready made men, no lady wants to look at a man and say you I belive in you and your dreams no matter what while she chases her own dream.

    2. Break up with a woman and she rains curses unknown to her the man broke up with the hope life becomes better for her eg b4 with a lady going for nysc cos she might find a husband since he is not ready for marriage she keeps demanding for.

Sometimes ladies be humane enough to see from the man's point of view.

Having said this men don't take good women for granted she supports you, gives u her goodie bag yet to have no iota of respect or support her in her own things you sir are a disgrace.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Tubaba and Annie's love is just from above. They should let them be and stop judging.

Try having a handsome man as husband and see if girls won't flock around him. Even when the man is avoiding them, they will still look for a way to come near. That is what happened with Tubaba as far as I am concerned.

  30. Even when a man cheats and impregnates many women he is still seen as a prize, that whoever he marries is the 'chosen one'. And yes we all know it's true that African men are vocal about choosing women who won't leave them if they cheat. Sumbo and Pero also stood by him. Pero was even from a big family. If those are his reasons, why didn't he stop cheating after marriage? They are a beautiful couple and have made the best of things and I think Annie is a VERY beautiful woman, but don't write such an article because if people discuss the FACTS concerning why Tu Face chose to marry Annie, it will be an embarassment for all parties involved. And an unfair one because Annie was minding her business and taking care of her family. Of all the important discussions and exposees going on in Nigeria for women, even in the entertainment industry, it's marriage this lady chose to write on. Everyday marriage. Why won't the men act like they are the second coming of Jesus Christ
