Disgraced EFCC Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu Writes IGP From Detention Seeking Bail

Mr. Oluwatosin Ojaomo, the lawyer to Ibrahim Magu, the suspended Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, applied for an administrative bail at the force headquarters for Magu, who is facing corruption charges before a presidential panel.

Mr. Ojaomo told Vanguard that he filed the application to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, on the grounds that it is Magu’s right as a Nigerian citizen and as a serving Commissioner of Police to be granted bail, as the allegations against him are bailable.

Ojaomo said he reminded the IGP of his “recent directives to all police formations in Nigeria not to detain any suspect for any offence that is bailable in nature due to the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world, to which Nigeria is not an exemption.”

He said he believes the IGP Adamu will grant the application, in line with his avowed commitment to the rule of law, which he has displayed since his assumption of office.

Magu, who has been in detention since his arrest on Monday, has been appearing before the panel from his detention base at Force Criminal Investigations Department, Area 10, Abuja.

    1. i judge with what i see not what i heard from people due i do put it into consideration when making my decision. Magu do not respect the laws of our land in the discharge of his duties, eg the freezing of a seating governor account who has government immunity, secondly the car he came with to National Assembly a Land Rover is $90,000 for the base and if it is a bulletproof then you talk about $250,000 to $300,000. i don't know the current exchange rate now but for a chairman of EFCC to ride such a car tells a lot about the man himself.

    2. So is it that people are not aware that wen u have a case with efcc you can offer to settle them and they free u? This is no news. Most of their officers are corrupt and bribable

    3. The man is not wise at all.
Since EFCC is just a subsidiary of NPF, the bosses will keep embezzling and committing atrocities.

    4. My own problem is how he stupidly closed down viable businesses and schools over silly or even confirmed allegations, without alternative means of livelihood for the workers in such establishments. Increasing unemployment and distressing the economy. I'm surprised Nigerians are surprised he's just as corrupt as the people he accuses.
I have accepted Nigerians as we are, I have a personal slogan that might work for Nigeria too : Progress not perfection. What has Buhari's supposed perfection/anticorruption got us ?

  4. Magu gets a taste of his own medicine. Guilty based on allegations. The guy has been illegal detaining people all over the place upon mere allegations ,now he knows how it feels to be thus treated.

  7. This dance is becoming more and more interesting. If all these allegations against him are true the guy has nothing doing fighting corruption cause a corrupt person cant fight corruption.

Nigerians and our ways. If actions were taken when Magu committed all the crimes enumerated above he would have been history before getting the chance to be appointed by the pesident. Some of these stories went as far back as 2010 and the guy was still being rotated by subsiquent EFCC chairman. I see the complain of the senators like one of the judges arrested who said the AG was after him because he reported him for misconduct some years back, he went further to say the AG was supposed to be debarred but after much pleading he allowed the matter to die and the AG came back to take his pound of flesh. Hope the senate is not taking their pound of flesh on Magu? If the senate had been responsible all these while they would have won the support of the masses on this issue but since they have been amending laws to protect them and weaken the fight against corruption most people will see this move as a move to protect themselves and further weaken the fight against corruption.

  8. The Senate saw all these and refused to approve his appointment but Buhari, the man who have no respect for the constitution, the man who is above the law, who rules by oral declaration, who does not follow laid down procedures insisted he must be there by force

Sebi efcc likes to detain offenders as long as they wish without minding rights, he should stay there without bail
