  10. DECLARE: ‘THIS IS WORKING FOR ME’

    ‘Our…affliction…is working for us.’
    2 Corinthians 4:17 NKJV

In a survey carried out in the USA, pollster George Barna reported that two out of three Americans refer to themselves as ‘casual Christians’. It’s an interesting term, but what does it mean? In essence it means uncommitted…hit-and-miss…when I feel like it. But here’s how Paul describes the Christian life: ‘We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us’ (v. 7 NKJV). Note the word ‘treasure’.

Paul treasured what God had put within him; he protected it, rejoiced over it, and maximised it. Does that mean the Christian life will be easy or trouble free? No, Paul continues: ‘Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing…the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal’ (vv. 16-18 NKJV).

Notice that ‘our…affliction…is working for us’. God uses life’s experiences – good and bad – to enrich, sharpen, deepen, and stabilise you. And here’s another important truth: what you believe and speak during difficult times determines the quality of your spiritual life and your future. ‘Since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak’ (v. 13 NKJV).

So instead of seeing your situation as working against you, stand up in faith today and declare: ‘This is working for me!’
    Word For Today.

  30. Una good morning o... My rant is about my kids..If I ask them to stop doing this or making noise or littering the house, they will say mummy leave me alone or u are disturbing me mummy.. But
If my husband tells them to keep quiet and stay in a fixed position, they will do so without saying a word. They diligently obey him.Pls is there something I am not doing right? Though I flog them and hubby doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You ain't doing nothing wrong mama. It's just a norm that kids tend to kids tend to give more respect to their dad. I think it's due to the fact that the fathers are more strict. You know mothers are very subtle and soft towards their children so they capitalize on that.

      Delete
    2. You are not doing anything wrong, most times children fear and obey daddies more because they don't talk always like mummies. Lol

      Delete
    3. Be firm with your voice so they know you mean it. Show them consequences of disobedience by withdrawal of play time or toys.
But ask your hubby to teach you how to handle them.

      Delete
    4. That's the difference they believe pata pata it is flog you will flog them..just look for another way everything isn't flogging

      Delete
    5. Maybe you should start speaking to them with a man's voice.😂

      Delete
    6. Yes nu, they are your friends and you can't give your friends instructions. They are your husband's children and that's why his respected.
When they disobey, punish them ans make sure they carry out the punishment. You don't necessarily need to beat them, and be serious when you want them serious. Correct it now that they are still kids.

      Delete
    7. It's not you darling. It's just how it is. God positioned men with that authority. I heard this from a preaching many years back but thought it was nonsense and then I began to deliberately pay attention to it and discovered its 100pc true. That's why raising up children shouldn't be left to women. As a mother you can beat a child but not achieve the same result a stern look from the father will achieve. Men please be more involved in your children's lives. God bless us all.

      Delete
    8. Kids tend to feel.mummies are softer than daddy,I think it comes with gender😄😄
Just be firm in your decisions, put your foot down sometimes,I don't think you are doing anything wrong!

      Delete
    9. My sister's kids are like this too, they are just used to you that's all. You are not doing anything wrong.

      Delete
    10. Kids are generally not scared of their mum.
Now my hubby is around, my kids are comporting themselves very well.
I hardly beat them but my hubby does when necessary.

      Delete
    11. Most kids are like that,na see finish jare! They see you every time and knows your weakness that you're soft unlike Dad's that isn't always around! So when he speaks, they fear him

You are not doing anything wrong dear

      Delete
    12. It's the opposite here, none is scared of DH, if he frowns too much they sing Daddy Yo for him.

Your answer is in your comment, FLOG.
Why flog them? So wrong dear, so wrong.

      Delete
    13. Thanks lovelies for ur replies.. Peaceful soul, my voice is now baritone😀 because of too much shouting.
Paris na see finish cause am Jare no be ..
      Thanks Sharon for the advice
      Thanks Anon 8:38 and COG
I try not to flog them sometimes but my kids eh always push me to do that.
Thanks everyone I feel so relieved.

    14. XP nnem, odighi easy.. I try not to but my children are something else.. I just tire!!! May God help me to discipline myself.

    15. It's nothing out of the ordinary. For me,I play the role of father and mother so they know better. When I'm doing mummy role, they will be using me to do yeye but once my voice and face changes, their two will just adjust🤣🤣
Just let them know when you are firm. Don't be telling them I will beat you o when they know you won't. By so doing, even when you are serious they will be laughing. You see parenting,it's God that grants us wisdom

      Delete
    16. GCN... Use modern women logic na, convert your floors and walls to learning boards, stick their pictures and colorful puzzles let them fix the blocks and see how many hours left.

If Lo and behold make too much noise, I pull out their coloring board in reverse to light, I place plastic toys:elephants or tigers in sunlight reflection on their paper, ask them to draw it out and color. Na there Dem go dey for 3 straight hours, my shikili remaining strength is not for shouting biko. The rest are forming big boys and chics for now, either reading novels or watching films, haha.

      Delete
    17. My kids are in the same boat. They don't take me serious but fear their dad.the funny thing is their dad has never beat them.
