I have a friend who is a saxophonist, he complains about some pastors not paying him after ministrations. Worst is that he won't be informed prior to the day of ministration. That they tell him he is doing it for God or some will say there is no money

The fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, self control, gentleness) have more bearing on holiness and righteousness than spiritual gifts (tongues, prophecy, healing). As Jesus said, by their fruits you shall know them. I do speak in tongues and while it is a great gift from God, it is not a mark of spiritual superiority and shouldn't be used as thus. It also shouldn't be used for show off or spiritual manipulation. I use mine mostly always in private prayer and believe it was intended to be used this way. I mean, no one understands what you are saying. Love is the greatest and love of God and neighbor still outweighs every commandment..

DeleteSorry but...Even you don't understand what you're saying? Then you aren't speaking in tongues. The unknown tongues in the bible meant speaking a language you didn't speak before, a language that actually exists. When you do, someone must interpret. You cannot speak and interpret according to the bible. The issue with the speaking in tongues is people forget that before pentecost, the holy spirit and God spoke to people quietly and personally in languages they knew. Check examples in the old and new testament. Pentecost happened so those around who didn't have the holy spirit on them could hear about God in their own language- speaker and interpreter. It only happened 2 times in the new testament and each time, people spoke languages that their audience knew. May God grant us wisdom because the one person we are instructed never to mock or lie against is the holy spirit.

DeleteAnon, as said in 1Cor 13, there are tongues of men (known languages) as happened in Pentecost and tongues of angels (unknown human languages). I too was confused about the two until I got the gift. As I said, I use mine for private prayer, so I don't need an interpreter cos there is no audience. I do sometimes, receive understanding of what I am saying but there are plenty other times when I have no clue. For instance, I know when I am being convicted of sin, when its an intercession for someone, when its spiritual warfare, when I'm prompted to pray for healing and I do know when the holy spirit is grieved. He also speaks to me through me..I speak in tongues and understand word for word in English ie both tongues and interpretation at the same time.

Its amusing that people intend to put God in a box..thinking that he works in only one unilateral way. Come on, he is God. He is not limited by our human understanding.
