    3. it is true covid 19 test cost 50k in private owned laboratories for people traveling and returning to nigeria. however for sick persons the test is free and its done in govt owned laboratoies/hospitals. ncdc has given autonomy to private labs to charge between 30k-50k for the test, also on the ncdc site it slated for 39500

  3. My brother and his wife recently returned to the country and had to do a repeat test after 7 days. They paid 80k. That's 40k per person.
They are set to go back this weekend and have to do another test. That's another 80k.

  4. 50k??? If they have sense they should better reduce it...o Else they get ready to contact it too.

  5. Its not a rumour now! It is the truth! 50k are for the private institutions... I think there are a very few labs that do free testing for public testing..

    1. 6 of us did at zaine lab, we paid 50,400 for each person.

It's only private labs that charge for the test and it's only traveller's that use the lab.

Someone at the lab told me that govt takes 20k out of the money.

There are still a lot of govt owned institutions that do free test.

  8. Yes is 50k and when traveling out if 9ja u must have your yellow vaccine card, but is very funny that they will have to tell u to go to VI/Lekki to go n do it, why not do it immediately at the airport like other airport does

    1. This charge is for those travelling, not the everyday testing reported oh.

    2. All govt testing centre's are free.

Even the private labs are linked to the govt too. They send reports to them.

I did at a private lab, my result has the Lagos state govt logo on it.

  11. Government do the test for free but d duration before the test results comes out is longer than d private labs where u pay

  12. That’s it! I keep telling people that people of average means cannot afford the Covid test in Nigeria and that’s why so many cases are unreported. Imagine! A person of limited means will just treat it like any other illness and do self medication.

    1. the amount is for people travelling not for sick persons.

  13. My daughter and her husband came in from Europe. They paid 54k each for the test on arrival, they had to go to Ghana for a document, paid another 54k each before going and on arrival paid another 54k each. Two WKSHOP later, they had to return to Europe so they paid another 54k each. That's a total of 432k on Covid test alone. It's really not fair to Nigerians

    1. Not fair at all. They should reduce it....

    3. Lol...you say not fair? I think it is fair. Nigerians and many African countries are paying this high because they do not create anything, the test kits re all imported nothing ingenious.

  18. Don't know why Government is ripping us off. When I did with 54gene in Abuja it was 30k and the result was out in 48 hours. Coming back to Nigeria Government insisted that we must pay, and I paid 54k. To my surprise, government directed me to the same 54gene. I don't understand how opportunistic this government is. Why will you make 24k off of your citizens that's almost x2 of the amount. Other private labs charge between 35-48k not 54k.

  21. It's true. I asked today in Abeokuta. But they asked if I was a traveler and I said no. That I'm doing it cos I'm not feeling well. Lobatan o! They said I shouldn't come again that they will call me tomorrow. It was so glaring and annoying what they were up to. I have a question please. And I want someone to answer abeg. Have you or anyone you know done the test and it came out negative? Please anyone. Just confirm, if you did the test and it came out negative. I want to do the test but I'm paranoid that once you do it,it comes out positive. Has anyone done it and it was negative? I'd like to hear from the horse's mouth.

    2. Yes, I did it in August at Yaba, Lagos and it came out negative. I was also scared like you because I was doing it for a job. Wishing you all the best

  23. 50k if you are traveling and doing the test with private clinicsv who have overhead cost to take care of. It is also meant to discourage people from travelling overseas and reduce the spread. Meanwhile, if you can afford flight ticket, 100usd shouldnt be a problem. As usual, Nigerians pay it abroad but complain when asked to pay in Nigeria.

Those who are sick and visit IDH dont have to pay for testing

    ReplyDelete
  24. I did mine at IDH Yaba. Free o.

  25. My two kids has done it in yaba late December because of school things and it came out negative after 24 hours. It is usually sent to your mail and it is free. For you to take the test you have to apply online and an invitation will be sent to you.

  26. @Stella, now that comments have indicated that it is free except for travellers and private labs, please do a post stating these. A lot more people need to know the cost and where to go to do the free test. That said, I had to tip someone for my last test even though it was free, they tell you the result will take up to 2 weeks unless you drop something. Don't fall for it, max 48hrs, the result will be out. Please keep safe o. May God help us all

  27. Very true. And not just so for those coming in or going out of the country. My boyfriend caught it when he traveled out of his base during the holiday.
A private hospital was trying to manage it but recovery was slow. When he called one of the helplines in his state, he was given a procedure on what to do. Part of which was to pay 56k for the test. Even when they confirmed it was coronavirus from his symptoms. Although he was also given some medications to buy and take as first-aid while he gets the test done.
He is already doing well from taking the medications, so he didn't bother with the test.
