Mrs Dee's Corner - The Better Cook Between A Husband And Wife

Expertise in culinary skills is not gender based and we have seen some men who are 'badasses' when it comes to transforming raw food to sumptuous meals, right?

While this may not be a problem in itself, it becomes challenging when the man won't allow the wife hear the end of it with criticizing every meal she prepares, even though she's not a horrible cook and making it appear she never gets the cooking right.

A friend confided in me on her parents' shaky marriage because her dad was constantly finding fault with most of the meals prepared by her mum, but he didn't want to take over the cooking responsibility since he was better at it.

I have also seen a man who is a chef treat his wife to amazing dishes and all she does is to sit back and watch him cook.

Some Nigerian men are yet to come to terms with being the cooks in the home because they are better at it. Their argument is, they can't be the provider and also the 'preparer'.

It will be liberating to find a vast majority of men who are not opposed to this idea of being the family cook, but are willing to happily take it up or at least assist their wives every now and then.

  1. My husband is a very good cook. He does cook once in a while in while.

  2. The onus lies on mothers to teach their sons how to cook. The skills can become very useful when
he least expected it. It does not matter who is cooking or "providing." What matters is that the
family is making progress. God made the woman the man's helper. He never uttered that word "provider"
so I don't even know where you get some of these words from when it comes to creation and the order of
    things.
What the man has belongs to the woman and what the woman has belongs to the man. That is the beauty of
    marriage; two becoming one.
My husband cooks better than I do. He enjoys my meals and we are just complementary to each other. I earn
more than him and I do not ever consider what I earn "my money" it is "our money." Marriage can be beautiful
if you follow the laws of God and eschew bitterness, greed and selfishness. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

  5. My husband doesn't cook oh. Like never. He can take what you've cooked from the fridge and microwave or he can help u boil rice or prepare yam or make semo.

But once it comes to things like cooking stew, soup, beans, moi moi etc, he will never agree that he can cook.

The conversation always goes like this

Me: Babe, help me cook the soup na.

    Boo: No

    Me: why na?

Boo: (pouting his lips) because I dunno how to cook soup.

I just always love to ask him to even though I know he won't because of the adorable way he refuses.

Another thing is that, he never criticises my food. No matter how bad or how somehow I think it tastes, he never says anything bad. Worst case scenario, when I complain about something about the food, he just looks at me and says the food is OK.

I think there must be something wrong with his tastebud

My husband is not a chef by profession, however this sentence ๐Ÿ‘† describes us. I know how to cook, I JUST DON'T enjoy it, he, on the other hand, not only knows how to cook but THOROUGHLY ENJOYS it, so.. Most times I sit back to watch netflix or read while he sorts us out.

  8. Anyway I hope my future hubby can really throw down in the kitchen, that’d be a huge plus. My cooking skills are above average but I’m definitely no Gordon Ramsay. Some foods are usually a hit or miss and I do not cook soup at allll.

Cooking isn’t something I like to do so I hope my hubby can not only cook but also actually enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes. I know it’s too much to ask for a man smh. Abeg make I dream in peace.

  10. Some people love cars, some are fashionistas, and yet some love sex; but as for me: I am a foodie.

I love to cook. My children prefer my cooking. My wife has adjusted.

I asked one day: who made it a taboo to try new ways of cooking? Why should we hang on to traditional cooking methods? Who says we can't mix Okra, Ugwu, Ogbono, etc and make a soul?

(I love Igbos for their numerous soup)

My endless questions drove my wife to adjustment.

I used to ask questions to criticize, but not anymore.

Apart from spending time alone with my books, eating sumptuous meals is the most pleasurable experience for me.

I will eventually start a club for foodies. Members will have the opportunity to show their culinary skills and be treated to fee meals.

  12. My dear, my husband is such an amazing cook as in no meal fazes him out and he enjoys cooking.
He has no problems at all with me not cooking maybe due to doing house chores he will just yeyely enter kitchen and cook for us.
And yes, he goes going for the family.
    Wonderful family man.
I can comfortably say in this aspect, I am overtly BLESSED!
