Pastor Tunde Bakare Blames Some Nigerian Youths For Messing Up Nigeria's System

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, CGCC, on Saturday said some youths in their 20s and 30s are responsible for Nigeria’s current woes.

Bakare who spoke at the at the maiden edition of The Conversation Africa Series organized by the Legacy Youth Fellowship in Lagos said these youths once trusted with power messed up the system in Nigeria.

He said: “Young Nigerians are asking why a country so rich wears the inglorious badge of the poverty capital of the world. Consequently, we have seen determined young Nigerians fired up and ready to take their country back from the so-called gerontocrats.

“Our current youths need to be reminded that on May 24, 1966, a 31-year-old Head of State destroyed the foundation of federalism and made Nigeria a unitary system and also in mid-1970’s some young and zealous army generals in their 30’s overthrew the government in their bid to sanitize the system but ended up destroying it among other incident.

“Young Nigerian patriots, you can see from this brief recourse to history that Nigeria was brought to its current state, not necessarily by gerontocrats, but by mostly young Nigerians, some of whom had been actively involved in governance from their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, and some of whom are relevant even now. It is why I say that youth, in a sense, brought us here.”

  2. That's how you will push the youth again to their death.. when they came out to protest for endsars and were murdered, where were you? Did we hear your voice? Oh, now that the government isn't favoring you, and you have been used and dumped, you're looking for pawn to help you fight your battle.. It's your own children that mess up the system..

Shameless fake pastor, if not that Nigeria is an 'anyhow' country, your type shouldn't be given any audience..

  3. Let me not swear from this man out of respect. Have the youths ever been given a chance, even if they contest for office you ppl like Tinubu will use money and power to buy the votes; even in the Office setting, these old ppl refuse to retire honourably and give chance for younger colleagues with young ideas. Go to Board of most Companies too na same set of old people full there. Oyinbo person can retire at 50 if hes made enuf, retire to spain with his savings and manage it. But 80yrs in naija is still struggling positions with the younger ones.
Pastor Bakare should we do as Ghana did and kill off all the old corrupt ppl and cleanse the country. Is Nigeria even worth dieing for as a youth bcos blood will flow?which youth wants to risk their life for a country you old ppl have destroyed.

    1. Nigeria has been failing her youth since 1960. Even when the youth thought to risk it all for a better Nigeria, some old saboteurs snitched and had everything ruined, the last attempt made by the suffering and tired Nigerian youth, the old worn-out politicians still killed her youths for attempting to protest peacefully. Wetin again make we do? Nigerian youths has been through alot already in this country biko, these pastors shouldn't add fake accusations to our numerous problems.

    2. Desomond Elliot na youth. When James Ibori and Lucky Igbinedion where governors of Delta and Edo States respectively in 1999 they were in their early 40s. We've had youths who have been in positions of authority and have messed up big time. It isn't about youths or old men. It is about our attitude and patriotism as a people.

    3. stop ranting please. Donald Duke, Amechi, Akpabio, Ibori, Igbinedion, ohakim, Fayose, Imoke , Chimaroke, Chime, Sylva and so many others were youths when they were governors. Most local government chairmen, members of the states and national assemblies are youths. The youths who found themselves in the corridors of power are worst than the older generation

  4. The youth is not the reason we are where we are today...although certain youths like Desmond Elliott, yahaya bello,to mention a few have proven not trustworthy...but then u don't judge a whole nation by the unscrupulous deeds of some few...what i think is the reason for all of these troubles we have today,is because we do not have a system that holds people accountable for their misdeeds...building that system with none excluded...only then, would we move on from all of these setbacks and disadvantages...

  7. What good will this do? The old schools have refused to step down for fresh minds to do a better job. The so-called "youths" that you're talking about are the ones holding onto power like it's their life. What are you expecting? Even you are one of them.

    Make we hear word abeg!

  8. People don’t read, he is simply saying the leaders we have now took over as youths and destroyed the country. My own is that the Ndlea needs to fight hard to stop drug abuse in order to combat crime and terrorism, too mich drug abuse is the reason people have become evil and heartless.

      You got the point.
The high rate of drug abuse among youths now if care is not taken can cause more harm in the future.

  9. As usual , you guys are allowing your emotions control your thought processes. Those who messed up the foundation of this nation were youths. Those who led the coup of 1966 and the counter coup of July 1966 were in their 20s and early thirties. Ironsi whose decree primarily led to the civil disobedience and progrom in the north was a youth, Ironsi destroyed the foundation of true federalism with decree 34 of 1966. Same applies to his closest aids. Those whose over blown egos, pride directly led to the civil war, Gowon and Ojukwu were youths. The leaders of the military coup of July 1975 were youths. Murtala Ramat Mohammed who distroyed the civil service was 38. After the mass sacking of civil servants in 1975, it became obvious that any head of state / president can just wake up on the wrong side of his bed and sack tens of thousands of civil servants. That was the end of job security and the beginning of massive corruption in the civil service. Those who overthrew the government of Shagari on December 31 1983 were youths. Those who overthrew the government of Buhari on August 27 1985 were youths. Those who were the first to devaluate the naira in 1987/88 were youths. Those who almost pulled down our nation with the annulment of the 1993 presidential election were youths. Abdulsalam Abubakar was the first non youth who ruled our nation. Invariably for the first 38 years of our nation's history youths were in charge

  10. Not true! The youths are the products of the society that their "fathers" have destroyed out of greed and pleasures.

And the church did not help matters with their prosperity messages and condemnation!

I am here watching Nigerian gospels on y-tube and all they show in the videos is wealth, success as if that is all christainity is about! So those that are not rich or successful are not blessed by God?
