    4. The bottled leopard, passport of mallam illiya, things fall apart, cry the beloved country, an African nights entertainment, one week one trouble, jagua nanas daughter, the drummer boy, the rainmaker, the concubine, efuru, trials of brother jero, the lion and the jewel and so many others ..... Let me not add the foreign ones.

Even now, if I could get my hands on original pacesetters books I would make a collection. Loved those things.

  3. Read all over and again...so sad we don't have a reading culture anymore, or better still, as much as it was back then

  4. I read Chike and the River/Eze goes to school.
Those were times when kids read books.
These days, it's video games and social media. A child opens his/her mouth and speaks English and you will almost want to shut it for the person.
Very embarrassing, as it is. Parents are contributory to it.
I banned video games/cartoon/social media in my house and they are all
straight A students, all of them. One is on college scholarship presently.
If you need to watch movie, I renew
the PUREflix subscription and it is just for the weekends and every evening during the long vacations.
We as parents can do better.
    😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

  16. Teachers and parents contributed to poor reading culture in Nigeria now. Most teachers don't have passion for teaching, they do it because of no jobs. African magic, video games and social medias are also contributory factors. Ask an SS1 student to write a simple letter, you will be disappointed. In our Junior class we were asked to read literature books and memorize them during morning Assembly. Parents should be alive to their Ward's Education and not make them to be lazy. I got to the school I am currently teaching as a side hustle, I discovered that most of the students are so poor in spellings, particularly one in my class, I bought books for her especially African Writers Series - AWS. She was not enthusiastic about it, I discovered that their English teacher never introduced soft literature books for them earlier, I just weak.
