Activist Sunday Igboho Reportedly Arrested In Cotonou After Nigerian Govt Put Him On ''Stop List''

Sunday Igboho, a self-acclaimed Yoruba activist (real name Sunday Adeyemo) has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to Punch News, Igboho was arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night by security forces in Benin.

This came a few days after the Federal Government placed him on a “stop list” after it was gathered that he was trying to acquire a new passport to flee the country.

A person whose name is on the stop-list is denied all constitutional rights and privileges a citizen is entitled to.

Igboho had also been declared wanted by the Department of State Services on allegations of stockpiling arms to destabilize the country.

His house at Sooka in Ibadan was raided by DSS which led to the arrest of 13 of Igboho’s associates.

Two of Igboho’s supporters, later identified as Adogan and Alfa, were also killed during the raid.

    3. What's Gumi's crime?. He is not a terrorist, neither is he a bandit. Having access to bandits and ranting like a lunatic is not enough to arrest him. Terrorists and bandits are killed everyday and some are arrested. America spent 20 years in Afghanistan, with their military might, they couldn't subdue and weaken the Taliban. Today, the Taliban are in control of most of the country sides and expanding the scale of their attack. America spent 2.2 trillion dollars on Afghanistan and thousands of American soldiers died. . Gorilla wars are difficult to win.

    4. Please tell us what makes Gumi and these other guys the same. Please as objective as possible please. No sentiments or emotions. How has Gumi I Instigated violence, secession or promoted any of these through actions and rhetoric?

    5. There is a difference here. A larger percentage of Yoruba do not support the "secessionist" campaign or the method being used by Sunday Igboho. In this case, it is like a coup d'etat in a military regime. Unlike what occurred in the nations you gave as examples. Even most Igbo do not support ipob or Biafra. So, if the people are not ready and supportive and you are mouthing secession and engaging in violence then you are exposed and you would be dealt with like a common criminal

    6. Good question anon 10:24, I don't want to comment on this post but will respond to your question. I hope you will be sincere enough to answer me too.

When Gunmi told bandits cum Fulani herdsmen terrorist that the solders killing them are Christians, what does that mean? Isn't that instigation pitching the Muslim against Christi's Christians?

    7. @Alexander if we look at this objectively - Sunday Igboho hasn't committed any crime to warrant being put on a wanted list either.

If you believe what DSS is saying about finding guns at Igboho's house then it shows you are ignorant of the devices of state police.

If you read your history you will know that Buhari used dss (then sss) in his military regime too.

Igboho was targeted at night because he caught multiple DSS officer spying on his house repeatedly due to his seccessionist rant.

What the government should have done is to invite him and tell him to stop or get a court order against him to stop seccession promotion. That's what a sane democratic government should do. If he doesn't stop - then arrest him constitutionally.

Instead - they attacked his house commando style. Kill two people...Seize passport...siezẹ charms and 'claim they found guns'.

Let's be honest - do you think Igboho is not smart enough to keep guns out of his own house in a private place to avoid dss finding it - especially after he had caught 2 dss spies on his house?

I am just letting you know that the guns they claim to found is most likely a big lie.

We all know Nigerian security agent plant guns on people just to hang them. This is ńot new.

Igboho shouting for Yoruba nation is because bandits and Fulani herds men attacked Yoruba land raping...killing without any resistance and any action. FROM federal govt.

Let's be guided in our utterance lst we are seen to be in support of this satanic government.

Benue state has been overun by bandits and Fulani hedlrdsmen. The governor has cried...talked...shouted....what did Buhari do to that?

Ṣeé Ehn. Until your family member is kidnapped and raped without condom by a foul smelling illiterate Fulani man for free without getting any justice Is when you will hate this govt and everything they stand for.

    8. Gumi knows where bandits are, mediates for them, collects money for them, and that did not tell you something? You know what it tells me? He is one of them! As for the 'tatafo' Alexander running his diarrhea mouth up there, how do you compare America that went to another country to hunt Taliban that are indigenes who knows in and out of their homeland to Nigeria that is fighting terrorists at home? So you will beat your chest and tell me that if Talinas were on American soil they will win America and America will be like Nigeria where the president is complacent and gives the excuse that they cannot run them out? Do you know how many times Isis wanted to penetrate the US? Do you even know that they planted some of their members in the US in the persons of young North Africa and middle east students who started bombing public places, before America wiped them out! If Buhari was the American president by now those ones planted then would have formed a state in the US. Keep giving lame excuses for the lame government.

    14. Teejay, I will help the anon. If you were paying attention this was the government response when he made the allegations:

      DISCLAIMER

NIGERIAN ARMY NOT COLLUDING WITH BANDITS

The Nigerian Army has just been alerted to a submission by Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi when he featured on ARISE TV Morning Show on Wednesday, 23 June 2021 alleging that the Nigerian Military is colluding with marauding bandits who have been responsible for various crimes and atrocities against Nigerians and the Nigerian state.

The Nigerian Army(NA) wishes to state that contrary to Sheik Gumi's claims, the NA remains a bonafide symbol of national unity that has conducted its constitutional responsibilities in the most professional manner in line with global best practices of adherence to the rules of engagement and protection of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry.

The sweeping allegation peddled by the scholar is not only sad and unfortunate, but a calculated attempt to denigrate the Nigerian military and undermine the sacrifices of our patriotic troops, who are working tirelessly to restore peace and stability across the country. It is essential to remind ourselves that these same military, being accused of connivance, are the ones who recently put their lives on the line to rescue abductees of the Government Secondary School, Birnin Yawuri from kidnappers.

While the NA will not attempt to excuse the possibility of black sheep amongst its fold, it must be stated unambiguously that it will not condone any form of sabotage or aiding and assisting the enemy by any personnel, as provisions for dealing decisively with such acts are crystallised in Section 45 (1) of the Armed Forces Act CAP A 20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

It must also be pointed out, that while the military is very much receptive to constructive criticism, it should not be perceived as a gateway for derogatory comments that have the potential to embolden criminals. It is also necessary to reiterate that patriotism must be taken to a trajectory where subversive conversations on the state are brought to the barest minimum.

Opinion leaders are enjoined to demonstrate patriotism in building the peace, rather than being agents of distabilization, thereby aggravating the current security challenges facing the nation.

The NA wishes to reassure law abiding citizens, that troops will continue to conduct themselves professionally in consonance with the code of conduct guiding our operations in all combat engagements, in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and global best practice. Citizens are enjoined to continue to support military operations by providing useful information to defence and security agencies and together we shall rid our society of these criminal elements.

Did GEJ not travel to the creeks on boats as a Vice President? Did Obasanjo not go to talk to some of the affecting boko haram members when they had their early issues with the government? 10. The north & fulani militia may be clapping for their president and herder in chief, great grand patron of MACBAN & northern agenda champion GMB, but they and APC are going to get a serious hit in voters empathy from SW, SS, SE, MB, etc in the next election. I know they don't care and believe with their northern numbers, states & Govs, fulani headed INEC, Judiciary, NASS, security agencies, they will rig elections and remain in power, but the SW is odd, they can vote Gov one way and presidency another, whether BAT is made the candidate or not. You go after any southerner against fulani agenda & Nigeria, who agitates for secession but you do nothing about northeners who promote division & terrorism, and ignore the faulty structures, nepotism, injustice, inequality & unfairness that southern agitators complain about in the Nigerian state, u deny it and double down to keep dividing the country & pushing northern interest unfairly, but I don't blame him, I blame southern leaders especially from SW & SE who are thronging & supporting northern leaders on fulani agenda as against southern progressive agenda cus of politics of selfish interest while north adds northern interest/agenda to their own. The north thinks they can always have their cake and eat it and I don't blame then cus it is the south that produces the flour and still gives north the knife to cut the biggest chunk while they make do with crumbs.

    4. People like Iyke are the reason Nigeria will not be good! Buhari will be in his living room looking at him and laughing 😂 😆. How will he even take you seriously? You support one secessionist and hate on another? That is why Fulani will keep peeing on you guys living in that contraption! They know you guys hate yourselves and are mostly hypocrites. You only come out and cry when it affects you and equally praise Buhari when it affects another! If you are praising and criticizing the same person for doing the same thing at different times, he will never take you seriously. When they abducted Nnamdi Kanu, people like Iyke Desmond were all over the place rejoicing and clapping for this same man Buhari that they are condemning now. They knew very well that Buhari and his criminal government violated international laws and violated Kanu’s human rights, but the Iykes of this world clapped for him and started with the comparisons between Kanu’s style and Igboho’s style, just to justify their evil minds on Kanu. The funny thing is that they thought Buhari and his Fulani caliphate government are doing that to Kanu only because he is Igbo. They thought he will spare Igboho because he’s Yoruba, because of their belief that Fulani prefers them as better slaves than the other slaves. No my dear, ‘Nigeria’ is a Fulani enterprise, they will go to any length to break anybody that wants to destroy their enterprise. Iyke and his likes sounded like ‘I know we are both thieves, but I steal with a better style than you’ ,😐 🤔. When military came to Kanu’s house in Umuahia to kill him he ran for his dear life, the Iykes of this world called him a coward, but when they went to kill Igboho in his house and Igboho ran away, they Iykes said it was an abuse of his fundamental human rights. Should I say that this is the law of retributive justice, judging from the speed and the quick succession the Igboho case is happening? I don’t condemn Ignoho, self determination is not a crime! My dear brothers and sisters in Nigeria, this is a time for us to be our brother’s keeper. Don’t just talk when it affects you, if you do, they will not take you seriously knowing you just praised them a few hours ago doing the same thing! Let us put ethnic biases aside, hold the government accountable. Question them for what they are not doing right! When you hear that the government is marginalizing the east or is marginalizing the west, you give good reasons why they should marginalize them, saying the Igbos are bad or Yorubas are bad, etc. This same government will do same to you! Iyke my dear, take heart okay, what ever you enable because it happened to the person you hate, will equally get to the person you like! Moral of my story is, condemn bad and call it bad, no matter who it affects. You don’t have to like Kanu to condemn the government for violating his human rights. He has massive following, I mean people who are ready to take bullets for him across the old east central state, so I don’t think your like or hate matter. But condemn evil when you see it, it might be your turn next!
