Dr Freaks Journal - Caught Red Handed

I had forgotten all about this story until an old friend refreshed my memory few days ago and urged me to write about it.

At some point in my life, I "fell in love!" (Please note that I'm still in love with an Angel till today oh). Back to my gist. Our love was an enviable one. Some observers -both close and distant ones suggested and or concluded that ours was made in heaven, but the few who knew better appreciated the fact that the conclusion of the former was far from the true situation of things.

Caveat Lector:

Please note that this is a pure work of art and it in no way attempts to denigrate anyone. Rest assured that the identities of all the characters would be protected. Please, if you think you have any inkling of any of the events talked about, kindly keep the details to yourself. Thank you.

It happened several years after the Death of the Lord (Anno Domini).

Ours got an imprimatur of the parents on both sides; so it was not the type that a boy would be hiding in one corner and be making a whistling sound with his mouth with a view to attracting the attention of the girl. I was known and accepted until an ugly incident warranted the cancellation of my visa. Details are not relevant for the purpose of this piece.

One of the parents wielded some political powers at the time and that particular one had on one or two occasions sent words to me through the daughter to leave the latter, run and not look back. Ideally, I should have heeded the blunt advice at the time because this particular person's favorite quote was "I fear no man, I fear no God!" I refused to let go and she even clinged more than ever. So, the relationship continued unabated for a longer period.

Was I warned? Yes. Was I touched? By the time I'm done with this piece, you should be in a better position to judge.

 I stayed off-campus. She stayed on campus. On one of the nights, I elected to pass the night at hers and parked my car around the neighborhood. We both went to bed as usual and I think she woke up earlier and decided to do her usual morning road work. On her way back, she noticed that some pieces of paper had littered where I parked my car the previous night. It didn't make much sense until I came out to assess the situation. Behold, some unscrupulous elements had attempted to set my car ablaze. To the glory of God, the car was preserved. I only had to replace the hose. I found burnt paper inside the engine all over, but my guardian angels extinguished the fire. Believe me!

She later confronted the brother and the dude admitted responsibility.

I moved on as if nothing happened.

Then there came a time when we both agreed to have a "lockdown" at mine for a period of two weeks to be able to reset and restrategize. The lockdown was going on smoothly until maybe two days after when she decided to pick a quarrel.

She left the room without picking anything along. I waited for her to return endlessly, then I decided to "embark on a manhunt" and my search took me to a popular gate where I sighted a car I had sighted earlier. It was a Camry, 1999 model and this incident took place like few years after 1999, meaning that he was a big boy. I took a bold step of "faith" by advancing towards the direction of the car. Lo and behold, my "missing" love was found inside the car, with her seat reclined.

Let me spare you the details.

Immediately they sighted me, the guy behind the wheels engaged his gear and zoomed off. The rest of the story would amaze and amuse you. I gave a chase to the speeding/fleeing car (on foot) and behold I caught up with them at the expected destination. I sighted the same car and I noticed that my "love" was absent. I was still panting like a serious minded marathon racer who just completed a 40-kilometer-race. Behold, she appeared in a night dress that I had never seen in my entire life!

Looking radiant now and she was set for an evening affair with "Uncle".

Let me digress a bit. In a research I carried out in my undergraduate days, I found out that an average undergraduate had at least three categories of guys/men in her life, to wit,

 i. a school boyfriend (for emotional and ancillary needs);

ii. a young guy, preferably, a working class guy, for the purpose of marriage;

 iii. an Uncle or "Oncle" who takes care of the financial needs. Has the situation changed today? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

She came out and the childish instinct in me at the time dictated that I should create a scene. The guy in question, a smart guy who was now visibly shaken tried to gain access to me and bravo! He succeeded. Coincidentally, he was my namesake!

I found out when he introduced himself. He was from Ondo, I am from Ekiti -we were "brothers". The girl had downloaded my details, I could tell. "They" were always willing to tell "them" about "us", but they won't tell "us" about "them".

We knew anyways, but we preferred to live in denial, or more of acquiescence. Who cares anyways? We were even ready for the commitments? My namesake (supposed rival) spent five minutes and his words sank in till this moment. Two things he said. One, "...don't lose your head over this girl, none of us is going to marry her" (none of us did); two, ", you are a broke student, you're not going to remain on this level for ever. I was once like you".

At that point, we shook hands and I left without her. I quietly went to my room. She left with him though, and I think she returned few hours later. Did we break up, no, we still went out for another three years. Her love was wicked!

Guess what, wifey knows the story! After that incident, I prayed to God for a woman who would not give me an "issh" for 2 seconds and He answered.

Stay safe,

Its Kunle!

    The Nigerian situation is that if you cannot provide completely, then you leave a small window, a window that you refuse to peep through so that you don't get to see what you ain't suppose to see
