ReplyDelete'Exhort one another daily.' Hebrews 3:13 NKJV
The Greek word for 'exhort' is parakalew. It comes from two words, one meaning 'alongside of' and the other meaning 'to call'. This is the root of the Greek word paraclete, which is the name Jesus gave the Holy Spirit. The real ministry of the Holy Spirit is to exhort and encourage us in our walk with God.
So you are never more like the Holy Spirit, and never more in tune with his ministry, than when you are exhorting and encouraging others. An exhorter can turn a loser into a winner, a shirker into a worker, and a pessimist into an optimist. They inspire others with renewed courage, spirit and hope. They have a ministry of affirmation and appreciation. It's important to remember the distinction between appreciation and affirmation. We appreciate what a person does, but we affirm who a person is. Appreciation comes and goes because it's usually related to accomplishments, but affirmation goes right to the heart because it's directed at the person's worth. An exhorter has the ability to make you feel good about yourself. They uplift, inspire, motivate and make you feel better just by being around.
The Bible says that Barnabas was an exhorter. 'Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord' (Acts 11:22-23 NKJV). So the word for today is: be an exhorter.

ReplyDeleteThe story of Orpah tells us how two Moabite sisters in law became two sides of the same coin with one of each of their descendants playing a major role in the Bible.
Most of us know the story of Ruth, Orpah and Naomi (Ruth 1 : 1-18) but what we didn't know was that as soon as Orpah parted ways with Ruth and Naomi, she went to the absolute opposite extreme. Upon leaving them, she ran into a battalion of 100 soldiers that raped her (some scholars claimed she willingly submitted herself to them).
From them she got pregnant and bore the giant, Goliath.
Orpah almost became great just like Ruth but she couldn't hold on. She almost gave up her entire life and homeland to embrace Naomis'. She refused not once but twice when Naomi urged them to go back to their people but on the third, she weakens and returned..ALMOST. Now Ruth, the one who stayed back and held on steadfastly became the great grandmother of David. Y'all see where I'm going with this..🙂 Ruth, the ancestor of King David and Orpah, the mother of his nemesis Goliath.
2 Samuel 21 described 4 giants eventually born by Orpah - all of whom were slain by David and his men meaning Ruth became Oprah's arch nemesis the moment she (Orpah) departed from them..leaving her legacy in obscurity and forgotten lore. Orpah was the veritable seed that fell upon the stony ground that Jesus had alluded to in his parable (Matthew 13:3-7).
Fear and uncertainty sometimes paralyse us and make us lose sight of our greatness. At times, we choose familiar paths that lead us away from God but to destruction (Proverbs 14:12).
It goes to show how enormous potential for greatness/accomplishment can be and the incredibly high stakes involved depending on how you use that potential. For Orpah, her potential was misdirected. 💔

I have a friend who had the boldness of coming to me to give her something so she can also send her own contribution so as to get something tangible for her fave. She's one crazy fan so she never hide anything. She's with her phone 24/7 following pages that carries bbn news, always on the lookout for when her fave will post and so on. How can someone be this crazy? I can imagine what these people are doing just to give their favorite the best gifts. It's their money yeah? But I am very sure a lot of them are broke and some even steal just to buy gifts and please their fave (my friend is a typical example). When are we going to ever have sense as nigerian youths??
