Wife And Brothers Of Femi Osibona Late Owner Of Collapsed Ikoyi Building Fight Over Bank Details, Exotic Cars, Other Assets

The relations of Femi Osibona, owner of the 21-storey building that collapsed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State, are currently in a messy fight over the personal property of the deceased....

Sources close to the family told SaharaReporters that the wife, who had just flown in from the United States, tried gaining access to her husband's apartment along Mosley Road, Ikoyi but she was denied access by some of Osibona’s brothers.

Mrs Osibona who had four children for the late Femi is presently in a fight-to-finish with the brothers who are laying claim to the deceased’s array of exotic cars, bank account details and other assets.

The family allegedly denied the wife access to the deceased’s apartment because there were bundles of money, keys to expensive vehicles and others in the house.

Two family factions came with Mobile Police Officers (MOPOL) after which they were all locked out by residents of the building who are neighbours of the deceased.

One of the sources said, “The brothers and wife of Femi Osibona are fighting over access to bank details of the deceased and keys to expensive vehicles. This is despite the fact that the man has a wife and four kids. The body is yet to be buried; they are already fighting over his property. His wife was at the site yesterday, shouting at his brothers. I think there are loads of cash in the house.

“Femi's brothers have stopped his wife and daughter from getting into his apartment. It is such a mess that money has become the root of all this evil. The brother asked the wife to go and stay at the hotel and she claimed she has no money to go there.”

Another source said, “The woman came to the house with MOPOL; the family also engaged the services of MOPOL. On each side, there were about twenty people shouting on one another. When it was already midnight, we chased every one of them out of the house. They were outside till midnight shouting, swearing, boasting and threatening. Instead of mourning, these people were fighting over assets. They have also engaged popular lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba, on the matter."

During the week reported that the Chief Executive Officer of Fourscore Homes Limited, Femi Osibona, was confirmed dead and recovered from the rubble of the collapsed structure after about four days.

The body of Osibona was discovered among others during the rescue operation on Thursday.

There had been concerns over the whereabouts of Osibona, Wale Bob-Oseni, his friend, and others trapped in the building.

Bob-Oseni, who was to catch a flight to the US, briefly made a detour to see the project at the invitation of the developer but did not walk out alive.

On Monday, the building located on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos collapsed with a yet-to-be-ascertained number of persons still trapped beneath the rubble. The death toll currently stands at over 40 persons.

Emergency workers had evacuated more than nine persons alive from the debris of the fallen building.

According to Highbrow Living Magazine, the collapsed property, comprising four-bedroom maisonettes, flats, duplex and penthouses, was 65 per cent sold out.

The price range for the apartment is also said to be between $1.2 million and $5 million.

The structure was said to be 80 per cent completed and was billed to be concluded in 2022.

    1. Before i judge is dat marriage still intact? Are they still living as husband and wife?
Because i have seen a situation where the man had seperated from his first wife years ago but they had grown kids, she was living in Germany with the older kids.
The man had married another woman here traditionally and had 3kids with her.
The man died and the wife from Germany wanted to come take-over his company and assets even though they seperated since 1998. It was the family that prevented it.
They decided only the kids should share the wealth equally and both wives get nothing.
If Femi's relatives are preventing the kids from their fathers house then that is wrong. But till i find out state of his marriage,i will judge better.

    2. Whether they are still living as husband and wife or not, did you read that he has 4 children by the wife. Why should any sane brother lock the man's daughter outside if that brother is not a thief. Nothing will ever justify dragging property with children of the deceased.

    3. Anon 13:30, any marriage that’s not dissolved in the same way it was contracted is intact. In this day an age, divorce is not taboo and returning bride price is an afternoon’s errand. Any person who no longer wants to stay married knows how to get out

  9. Why the double standards in this country? Why should the woman be entitled to everything? Isn't that greed as well? So a man marries and looses all his assets while a woman gains his whole assets? U mean after bearing a child and raising him the mother and maybe siblings who helped out at some point should not be entitled to anything? I mean if he hadn't been raised properly and guided and taken care of would the wife have seen him to marry?

Is the wife handicapped or are there no women like angela markel, SDK, genevive and a million and one great women out there working and putting food on the table? The amazing thing is that women will call his brothers lazy but they would use their husband's money to train their own brothers( I have seen it happen a lot where a woman won't allow a man spend a penny on his siblings but will use her husband's money on her brothers, sisters, parents etc)

Women are slowly becoming the reason why more and more men abhor marriage because of this cage and entitlement mentality. Women u are not liabilities and leaches biko and do not ever negate his family if there's more than enough. Something u wouldn't like to be done to you why do it to others? Or would u be happy to sacrifice years and years for your male child and someone says because she is a wife ur sacrifices are in vain?

I am not trying to negate the wife's role but the man was a billionaire for crying out loud, there's more than enough for the victims, the children, the wife, the siblings, the parents etc. Everyone is legit entitled to have a share biko

    4. Yea..women. It’s always women. Because a widow and her children that came back to mourn their husband and father but were locked out of their home by the man’s family is very normal.

We are to believe this fight just started, right? It’s easy to ascertain that the wife and inlaws have been at loggerheads long before his death. That’s a wealthy family fighting over exotic cars and money allegedly left in one of his houses if we are to believe this story. That man’s estate is enough to go round but of course, greed comes to play.

      On brand.

    5. Angela Merkel ko. See this idiot talking. Firstly, the man and wife by law and religion are one. Secondly, where there is no will the law allows that the wife and children have more claim to the property of the deceased. Thirdly, talking about Angela Merkel is an unwise comparison in a clime of gender inequality and where women make the Majority of who are poor. Women generally don't have the same privileges as men in our country and are more likely to be poor, u can check the statistics. Your statement is ignorant and insensitive. The best thing is to assign the man's estate to a trust and the assets used to settle of the debt, because as it is there are monies needed to be refunded to those who have made deposits and likely refund to depositors for those buildings still standing. I don't know anyone who would still want to live in those buildings. after debts have been settled one can now talk about how the net assets can be shared. That is the right thing to say not this rubbish u spewed out of ignorance.

EVERYONE HIS CHILDREN, WIFE, VICTIMS AND EXTENDED FAMILY CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF AND EVERYONE WILL BE WEALTHY.

See the other one that mentioned Angela markel like that was the only example I gave, are there no CEOs, directors, ministers, house of reps, senators, entrepreneurs, OAP, actresses, business women, successful etc that are female? Even the owner of this blog Stella is a successful woman.

The worst part is that you guys don't even know the state of the marriage like someone pointed out earlier but are quick to judge.

What is sooo wrong in everyone having a share? Isn't that how the world becomes a better place?

    9. Thanks for most of the responses. To add, Anon 12:04, if a wife died rich, is there any argument at all against her husband and kids inheriting her property? I have never seen a wife’s family lay claim to her assets, mostly happens when a husband dies, why?
Nonsense talk about the family training him, if he had turned out poor will you have this argument?
If you have a rich brother, to avoid heartbreak, ask him to write a will and include you, (since you lack shame). If he doesn’t and he is married under the Act, wife and kids have first claim to his net assets. Only women easily intimidated will let this fly. All this one is initial gra gra.

    10. Anon 12:04 shame nor even catch you to vomit this nonsense. Entitled, evil brother. Stay there and be waiting for your brother to die so you can fight his widow and children for what RIGHTFULLY belongs to them. Don't go and make your own money, like your mates are doing.

Trustfunds and properties for the kids and properties for my inlaws ( yes am not that greedy wife cos my husband didn't crawl out of a hole) I recognise the importance of his family in the man that he is today and I appreciate them for the sacrifices they made.

      2) I hope if your sons were to transfer everything to their wives u won't have a problem with it? Do unto others as u would wish it done unto you. Remember we are not taking any of this wealth away (not money, not cars, not houses) they all remain upon thus earth, wealth only changes hands.

    14. There is no excuse for the man's wife and DAUGHTER to be kept out of her father's house by armed policemen. That action shows that his brothers are simply parasites.

She should laminate her wedding certificate and the birth certificates of her children and then seriously lawyer up to face his family and firm for the sake of her children. The only person to be considered as an inheritor or beneficiary is the aged mother for her mantainance in old age. The rest should go and work. It is only in Nigeria that she has a battle to fight. In the other sane parts of the world, there is no issue if he died intestate. Maybe that's why the brothers are so desperate as this is their only chance.

This is the same way a man was chased away from the house and properties he shared with his wife of almost two decades after her death because she was the breadwinner as a successful business woman. Her brothers used violence, threats and intimidation against him despite the fact that they were legally married but had challenges having a baby. I'm sick of this mentality of scarcity and wickedness.

People legally married know the implications of dying without a will. They are fine with their next of kin being their spouse and not their siblings or parents. Why do you want to die on top of what is not yours?

The deaths and injuries were due to negligence and the Estate of the developer will definitely be sued. They know that the judicial system in Nigerian and the culture of "Accept God's will" will not allow personal injury lawsuits to thrive, people who invested in the developing will have the wherewithal to keep this matter in court for the next decade but I doubt if the dead (who seem to be largely blue collar workers) will get a farthing from anyone. A supportive example of future quagmire is the Synagogue church building collapse that took 115 lives, it's now exactly seven years after that collapse and Lagos State government is still fighting in court to hold someone responsible.

    1. I'm really shocked at the comments here. If he didnt set his siblings up while alive , that's a shame and not his wife's responsibility. People get married not only cis of religion, but to give their wife and children security when they die. That's why you go ahead to get married in court even after your church wedding. People are so ignorant its draining

      Delete
    2. May your siblings be protected from people like you who want to inherit them. I know everyone is pretending to do it for the aged mother but from your write up, you'll actually boldly collect something shared to you from your dead brother's assets even when he has living children? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Many traders in the market and loggers that didn't even go to school have their properties and other investments in addition to their business to live off of in old age but even with education, your own is to be calculating your sibling's net worth preparing for his death to embarrass yourself.

Your brother/ sister owes you nothing in death if you didn't bother to establish yourself during his lifetime. That's on you. The sense of entitlement is just sickening from Nigerians. As an adult, take total responsibility for your life and where you are. Younger dependents can be considered by a wife treated well by the family but it is not a right.

It's not your brother's fault that you were waiting him to die instead of making something of your life while he made something of his instead of using you for blood money.

Children are not a retirement plan. Many people have hundred of millions in old age due to the industry they exercised in their youth. Do you think Rasak Okoya will be dragging with his daughters-in-law if heaven forbid, he loses a child? It is this kind of mindset that drowns the few who turn back to help family members: they leach you dry because they are born takers. Work smart and make wise investments that you can feed off of in your old age instead of praying for your own blood to die so that you can disinherit his children.

    3. From arike's story and this one, I am just disappointed and disgusted. When did this kind of thing start? Siblings inheriting each other? Even aged parents see it as a curse to inherit from their children. It is their other children that take up their care if the person that died left a widow and small children. It is when those children of the deceased find their feet that the grandparents feel comfortable taking from them (ounje Omo). Sometimes, if a lot was left behind, the widow opens up to take care of the parents but most will refuse saying she should focus on the children as they don't want to inherit their son/ daughter. She has to then change it into gifts during holidays or go behind through her brothers and sisters in law to help. Yoruba parents hate it.

Where are the elders? Where is culture in this case?

    3. Parents don't train their children in order to inherit them. The returns on such an "investment" is that the man establishes himself and can then pay it forward in the lives of his own wife and children.

Culturally it is a curse for parents to inherit a child but our culture is different from yours: I wonder where ijebu men learnt this strange idea of fighting wives and children for their father's inheritance. The same parents also sponsored his siblings education abroad so where are their own buildings, collapsed or not? Did the brothers also sponsor his education? It isn't in these kind of families that the dreams of other children are truncated for a so called golden child- not every family is that poor.

I pray your own siblings live long so that your thoughts towards them and their children don't come to pass.

The man is a money launderer and one of those destroying our society. In the part of UK where I live an average terrace house goes for 300kpounds which you have to buy through mortgage spread over 25 years. And now in Nigeria where a lot of our youth are finding it difficult to get a job that will pay 100k naira, and someone is constructing a house where apartment goes for 5million dollars haba.We need to wake up if not this set of people are destroying the nation. The politician are using this people to launder money and they are trying to set up a system where a lot of people will continue to suffer. Most of the useless house they build in Maitaima where a plot of land goes for 500million are mostly empty. But because of our attitude to money, we have multiple orgasm the moment we hear the amount of money this people have and worship them without questioning the source of wealth\ Anybody who dare to raise it are abuse and drag. If we continue this way a lot of people destiny will be lost to the system. Who is going to compensate the workers who perished in that building?,why did IGP of police attend the scene?while we have other areas of the country that need urgent security. Why are our top politician now flocking to the site? From all indication our country has gone to the dogs and we the citizen are not paying any attention .

    2. Good points raised. First of all, why are people paying in dollars for a house in Nigeria where the national currency is naira? The best decision I made was leaving Nigeria, I can't thank God enough for the opportunity. May He protect my loved ones and every other soul there cos every news I read about naija online makes me shake my head.

    3. Thank you! My mouth was open reading $5million dollars for a house in Nigeria. Why will I invest that kind of money in such a dilapidated system? Bad roads, no light, insecurity. Yet people will still rush to buy such because they got their money through fraudulent means, driving the cost of living up for the average Nigerian who makes 150,000 or less monthly.

  42. God bless you anon 17:36. Destinies are being lost in nigeria. The greed is just too much. The price of one flat in that apartment has bought you two 3 bed duplex in most parts of UK and most people here buy it on mortgage. As in someone will pocket money that can build a standard hospital with up to date equipments in a country where engineers can't find a 50k per month job. Nigerians need to experience other countries and see how much we are being cheated. We can match even America if not for greed. I weep for us
