The Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver - 108

Ah..... This is serious!

The last two weeks have been exceptionally busy for me and I was very tired from work and decided to take some time out to rest by going to my family house.

The previous day, I had just returned from a trip to Ekiti where I went to drop off a client. On getting close to his drop-off location while still driving on those single lanes, which are often referred to as ‘face me I face you road’, I ran into a hen that crossed the road carelessly. It died instantly.

My client told me to come down, look for the owner and appease the person for death of the fowl but I was angry that it was left to roam around carelessly, which has put a dent on the front grill above the bumper of my car.

If i had tried to avoid hitting the hen , I would have run into an oncoming vehicle or entered a ditch. I told him that I was lucky it wasn’t a bigger animal that ran across the road like a sheep or goat, it would have caused more damage to the car.

The guy told me he knows his village people and its best I look for the owner and apologize. I told him I would do no such thing as I also had damaged my car.

After gisting with family members, I retired early to bed around 8:30pm because I was exhausted. Around 12 midnight, I woke up with a very sharp pain on my left hand. As I tried to move my hand, it had lost all feeling. It was limp and flopped around like a useless bag of bone.

In a few seconds, lots of thoughts flashed through my mind like the amputation of my hand, not being able to drive and work as an Uber driver anymore amongst other things. Did I have any medical condition like hypertension or diabetes and I am not aware which has caused paralysis? I panicked as I thought something horrible had happened to my body.

I thought about the most recent ‘bad’ thing I had done, which was not heeding the advice of my Ekiti client by appeasing the owner of the hen that I killed. I became afraid that those ‘village people’ had done this evil to me. On the other hand, I thought also about a girl that showed interest in me recently that I refused to date because she is not my spec and she told me that I will regret it.

Haaaa … so they finally got me?!!!!

As different thoughts flooded my mind, I didn’t know when I screamed. My sister who was still awake watching a movie came running to my room to find out what was wrong. I told her I had lost the use of my left hand. She held it and saw that it was very cold. She then assured me that I must have slept wrongly as she massaged it.

I was so relieved when the hand eventually came back to life and I was able to use it again as the pain subsided. Me wey never start life, na to lose the use of my arm? God forbid bad thing. Anyway, I have made up my mind to go for a comprehensive medical test. I no fit shout abeg.
