Ever heard of Mansa Musa of ancient Malian Empire who was a 14th Century West African ruler. Well, his fortune is estimated at about $400 billion in today's terms and he is considered the richest man of all time. Google is your friend, pls check and verify.
ReplyDeleteThe GDP of Nigeria at the time of his death in 1966 was not even up to half a billion pounds. Nigeria's National budget in 1966 was 132 Million British Pounds - United nations Statistical yearbook 1971.
Wikipedia has this to say about Sir Louis, "By the time of his death in 1966, Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu's wealth was worth $4 billion by the current value." That means his wealth in todays's terms would be valued at $4 billion.
Sir Louis Ojukwu was a very rich man in early Nigeria but so were the likes of Candido da Rocha and some of his rich contemporaries whose wealth have not been valued in contemporary times. I hate it when people deliberately distort history just to win an argument or score a twisted point.
Dangote (currently valued at $12.1 Billion USD), Adenuga ($6.3 Billion) or Rabiu Abdulsamad ($5.5 Billion) are all richer than Sir Louis. https://www.forbes.com/africa-billionaires/list/#tab:overall
