Billionaire Father Of '' Underwear Bomber'' Says He Hopes To See Son Who Is Serving 2 Life Sentences One Day...

The 82-year-old billionaire businessman, and former Chairman of First Bank PLC and UBA, Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab, says he hopes to see his son, Farouk Abdul Mutallab, who is serving a life sentence in a United States prison over terrorism act, one day before his death.

At age 23, Farouk fondly referred to as the “underwear bomber”, attempted to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear while aboard a Northwest Airlines Flight 253, en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day, 2009.

Mutallab while speaking in an interview on Trust TV, monitored in Kaduna on Wednesday, said he was in touch with his son but under strict prison guidelines.

According to him, his son calls sometimes two or thrice a month, adding that “we cannot phone him but he’s the one who can phone us and we do speak”.

“Sometimes, he calls twice or thrice in a month,” Mutallab added.
As a matter of fact, his mother, brother and sister were with him about two or three weeks ago.

“They visited him under very strict prison guidelines but we will keep on praying to Almighty Allah. Maybe one day in my lifetime, we would see him back. But it is a situation whereby he has 3 life sentences, plus 40 years. It is a lot.”
But only Almighty Allah will bring us into a situation of seeing him in this world with his siblings here in Nigeria,” he added.

    3. I don’t even think this is worth leaving a comment on it.., because if the boy had succeeded, the father would never have heard his voice or seen him again anyway. Also the boy would have taken so many people with him. So baba whilst I understand your sentiments, please just be happy and content they are even allowing you to talk to him at all

    4. Quite true Anon

Also indoctrination tactics targeting young people especially students needs looking at and nipping in the bud especially abroad

    5. Say what you are sure of, his father actually approached the US and Nigerian authorities to warn them about his son's views in November; weeks before the attempt to destroy the flight to Detroit. He never supported his radical views.

  2. So funny that I know this guy.

As you lay your bed you shall lie on it.
His case is similar to the story I read when I was still in High school in Nigeria. The novel talks about a certain boy who was overly pampered by his parents. He was later sent to study abroad but he didn't turn out well. I can't remember the title of that novel.
If anyone remembers, Kindly tell me so I can buy them and send to my sis for her kids and herself.
    Thanks.

    1. Are you saying your sis is over pampering her kids? If so, do you really need to wait for a book to convey that message to her? What are sisters for..., please speak to her.

    2. Also I want to add that parents should be available for their kids. Yes, money is very important but we should learn to set priorities. Of what use will it be to make all these money but your kids ends up as terrorists.

This guy was like a hermit then or more like a loner.
      God help our parents.

    4. The name of the story book is mother's choice. His father was even a banker in the story. His mother sent him there because other high class women in their neighbourhood were sending their children abroad. Though her husband objected to it initially.
He went and was influenced by kamurudeen to do drugs and other vices.

    5. The worse thing anyone can do to their kids is to over pamper them . It should be a crime.

    6. Thank you Anon.11:57 and Chichi. That's exactly the book I'm talking about.
@ Anon 11:37, my comment might have implied that she pampers her kids but it's not exactly the case. I also do talk to her but I think going a bit further will help more. Employing every possible tactics to make children grow better can never be too much.

    2. While you are right about the number of passengers and crew members... did you think of if the bomb detonated when they were flying over a city? Residential or office complex? The people that would have died of broken heart at losing their loved ones? The profiling of Nigerians that would have followed after that? The damage would have been endless...we are grateful he did not succeed.

      Sir,
You will have to go to US to be sure of seeing your son again in this lifetime. All the best.

The father was so proactive and did well by alerting the authorities.
I salute him too for his prompt action.
