On Monday February 21,2022 Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja refused to order the Federal Government to release the detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari from custody.
Rather, the Judge ordered that the embattled Kyari should put the Federal Government on notice of the existence of the suit he instituted against it.
The suspended DCP had dragged the Federal Government before the court challenging his continued detention by an agency of government.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Kyari sought an order of the court to immediately release him and in the alternative, the suspended DCP, who is being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over his alleged involvement in hard drug trafficking, asked the court to admit him to bail in liberal conditions.
In an ex-parte application argued by his counsel, Cynthia Obianuju Ikena, Kyari claimed to be suffering from chronic diabetes threatening his life and therefore needs urgent medical attention.
Justice Ekwo, in his brief ruling, declined to order his immediate release but ordered him to put the respondent on notice.
The judge ordered him to go and serve all processes he filed on the Federal Government.
Justice Ekwo held that all the averments and allegations made against the Federal Government are so weighty that the court must give the government opportunity to hear from it before taking any step.
He thereafter fixed February 24 for the parties to appear before him.

DeleteThey start developing all forms of illnesses the moment they are caught. Shameless people. But on second thoughts, what could have given him the nerve to sue? Abi he has some juicy secrets to spill if they refuse. This country eh, it can make one develop paranoia. As far as am concerned, these government officials and politicians are all the same, none is holier than the other.
ReplyDeleteSee life. When you were arresting ppl, even innocent ppl, did you ever think what it really feels like to be locked behind bars. Now, you are right where you placed thousands and can't handle it, you losing it. Did you show love, empathy, compassion to any you incarcerated over the years? Did you develop a reputation for kindness and fairness to all?
ReplyDeleteNo matter our work and our status, let us all remember to sow good seeds, so that if we find ourselves in an unsavory situation we can withdraw from what we have stored up. Humility is protection.

ReplyDeleteHe want to run away to Saudi Arabia
ReplyDeleteThe truth is our laws are stupid and were made in such a way that it can be easily manipulated by anyone who can afford good lawyers. The 1999 constitution needs to be overhauled completely that’s why people like Atiku and Buruji Kashamu we’re never extradited to the US and the woman in the Uk is still there after all these years. This mans case won’t be different,he would drag the case for years till it is forgotten and eventually escape extradition.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteHis madness is mad
