Nigeria Approves US' Request For Disgraced Cop Abba Kyari’s Extradition

The Federal Government of Nigeria has given an insight to the approval of the request by the United States for extradition of Policeman Abba Kyari.

The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and former head of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) is wanted for conspiracy.

Kyari was linked to a $1.1million wire fraud involving Abass Ramon, aka Hushpuppi, under prosecution by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) filed an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 was filed under the Extradition Act.

In a statement on Thursday, Malami’s spokesman, Umar Gwandu, explained that extradition is a process that involves multifaceted components.

“The components are usually multi-territorial; international, local and judicial.

“Submission of request from the concerned party to the relevant authorities constitutes one of such components.

“The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice received the extradition request in respect of the officer in question.

“After thorough studies and reviews of issues regarding the application and components, the office processed the application and forward same to the relevant authorities for further necessary action”, Gwandu noted.

  3. A supposed one of the 'finest' and best 'super' cop Nigeria ever produced. A criminal and drug enabler in police clothing. The prophesy came that you will leave Imo State in shame and disgrace. Eventually in less than six months it came to pass.

I will believe this story of extradition when I see Kyari land in the US airport. Extradition process isn't a week or month something. In some cases, it takes years to materialize.

  14. Once he lands in the USA in cuffs, I'll clap for government as I am politically neutral but for now, I know that Nigerian law has a clause exempting citizens facing charges in Nigeria from being extradited.

Because of the antecedents of this government, I am of the opinion that they are trying to have it both ways: Kyari's lawyers will delay this extradition or successfully fight it in court while he continues to enjoy five star treatment while locked up only to walk away scott free.

Malami claimed over 400 have been indicted for terrorism about a year ago. When will their trials begin? Why was the extradition delayed and why was Kyari still working in the new SARS called intelligence unit while still on suspension? This man, from the pictures he chose to share on his social media handles, is a favorite of those who run the system for a president not terribly interested in exerting himself. I understand how Dariye and Nyame can be locked up but Orji Uzor Kalu, Aisha Buhari's brother and maybe Kyari can walk.

Why was no single petition written to EFCC and ICPC about this same bloodsucking demon taken up all these years? This may just be the Zakari Biu shuffle once again. The Frank Omenka dribble where the worst of Nigeria's psychopaths is given a soft landing. The government should feel free to prove me wrong.

  15. Well since he is going to jail in Nigeria anyway, I think he must have chosen to go to jail in the USA instead.
After that one, Naija go forget his home crime. But if he goes to jail in Nigeria first, he will still be extradited.
Nigerians prefer foreign jail to Nigerian mansions.
