UK Classifies Biafra Group As A Terrorist Organization

The United Kingdom has recognized the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization and a group that uses violence to achieve its aims.

United Kingdom Visas and Immigration office disclosed this in its May 2022 policy update.

UKVI referred to IPOB, whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu is in the custody of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) as a terrorist organization. The group is; excluded from its asylum programme for violent crimes in Nigeria’s South East.

Biafra

“IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have; committed human rights violations in Nigeria,” UKVI said in its policy notes.

“If a person has been; involved with IPOB (and/or an affiliated group), MASSOB, or any other ‘Biafran’ group that incites or uses violence to achieve its aims, decision-makers must consider whether; one (or more) of the exclusion clauses under the Refugee Convention is; applicable.

“Persons who commit human rights violations must; not be granted asylum.”

In 2017, the Nigerian government declared IPOB a terrorist organization.

In recent times, the proscribed group has been; accused of perpetrating violent attacks in the South East in order to achieve its secession agenda but IPOB has repeatedly denied being; behind the attacks.

However, Ivan Sheehan, an American academic who is the executive director of the school of public and international affairs at the University of Baltimore recently asked the United States government to; designate the group as a; terrorist organization.

Issue threats

According to Sheehan, the establishment of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by IPOB signaled; the end of the group’s “pretenses of being a; peaceful movement”.

Moreover, the American academic also accused IPOB’s leader, Kanu of supporting terrorism and issuing threats via Radio Biafra.

“Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s leader, is clearly unconcerned. That he feels no need to even disguise his support of terrorism is; worrisome,” Sheehan wrote.

From 1st news!

*How will this affect Mr Kanu who is a British citizen? Does it also mean he can no longer hide out in the UK when he is released?

    1. I am currently doing some intense research on the concept of narcissism and I have realized that Igbos are narcissists. It will be hard for Igbos to accept it, but it's the truth. There's an abundance of peer reviewed literature on narcissism, study this for yourself and compare the Igbo personality to narcissism and see the outcome.

    2. IPOB, MASSOB, ESN, UKNOWN GUNMEN, are not the problem, in and of themselves, they are just symptoms of a problem. The real problem of the Igbo race, the root cause is NARCISSISM.

  2. This right here is my sentiment about this matter.

For over 8years, bokoharam have been acting unstopped. But IPOB acts in less than two years, they spring up from where they are and tag them a terrorist group.

Overbleached melanin lacking set of fools. 🙄🙄🙄

    1. Dozzybest ur tribalistic bigotry clouded ur sense of reasoning. You talk as if there is a competition of who has more terrorist tendencies between the BH and IPOB. Go back to ur records and see, from the beginning of all the BH saga, they were already proscribed since. However, dear sir/madam, if you do not want them to be proscribed and treated like the terrorists that they are, kindly make an appeal.

So what have your people done about Boko Haram? Give them scholarships in the name of being repentant abi.
We're just decieving ourselves, What has your Govt done to deal with these terrorists, or is it new to you that Boko Haram and the likes enjoys sponsorship from top government officials?
So they're not a time bomb, now all of a sudden, they want to vest all their strength to fight IPOB, while on a daily u will hear scores of people being killed and kidnapped in the North, soldiers have been killed in numbers, you heard they attacked the military base, you heard they attacked NAF office and kidnapped and killed officers, what has your country done.
So now IPOP is where they want to start from.
Your Government is negotiating with Bandits on a daily, Herdsmen kill people in their farms, what has your government done, so all of a sudden IPOB has become a national security threat abi, cuz they feel it has a touch of Igbo.
If you feel this movement isn't political, then you're not In this country.

    3. When double standard has become the bane of the day what do you expect?

Why treat the ibos as though they are out cast?

I don't endorse these killing making the rounds but come oh

In all sincerity if the government channels her energy to face the north and show some sense of equity to the east, I think it would be a proper approach.

Can we ever compare the harm done by Boko Haram to what the IPOB have done?

  3. What have the useless UK done or said about Herdsmen, Bandits and the almighty Boko Haram, what efforts have they put to help fight these sects.
Only for them to sit at god damn knows where to declare a particular sect a terrorist group.
Because they want to keep milking Nigeria they can say rubbish, busy bodies.

    1. If you don’t want them to proscribe the IPOB as a terrorist group, we can start a petition so that they would leave them be. But you know what, they are all only killing themselves and we hope it stays that way, since most of the support is coming from the same people they are killing.

    I'm not violent

    Always have.
Not to talk of when it's political...

  5. That, my dearest brother. Have you seen this? Have you seen the gruesome video making rounds on how ipob now behead and mutilate bodies? These people mustered guts from some of us who supported them as freedom fighters just like BH and now the are no different. Why the Fed Govt didn't not kill a Nnamdi Kanu when they got him in Kenya, I will never understand. That is the extent hate drove Buhari. He needed to bring the Louth home and keep him like trophy. To what end? Someone that should have been kidnapped, killed and disposed of without a trace and leave his followers looking for him and guessing if he was in hiding. I saw that charlatan for what he was from day one. How even people who knew his father and what he did during the civil war would still trust his on to be any different eludes me. Tufiakwa!

  10. Stella, I thought you should have known this is a fake news. Even UK refuted the fake news circulating online that she recognized IPOB as terrorist group. Please Stella, go to their website and see the UK response and correct this news, it's misleading.

The UK only reviewed their asylum package on IPOB. Go to UK twitter handle and see the clarification she made yesterday that IPOB is not listed in the UK as a terrorist organization.

    5. Slutty dear, I strongly condenm the killings and destructions going on in the East. No one deserves to be killed gruesomely. Some criminal element in the eastern region are perpetrating this evil and I fervently pray whoever they are, may their end meet them at their doorstep and whoever is financing them.

But the proscription tag is a false one hence I'm trying to correct it and not that I support the killings or destruction going on. If that tag should stick as the government earnestly seek, do you know what that will mean to every Igbo youths? Every Easterners will be labeled terrorist or do you think they write IPOB on the forehead? Every Easterners will be denied Visa cos you're been seen as terrorist.

Was it not cos of IPOB Buhari called Easterners a dot? What made you think they won't lump all Igbo indigenes as terrorist when this tag stick. There will be total clamp down on every youth in the easty by the Nigerian government citing them do be terrorist. I know what I'm saying.

I feel so sorry for that Kanu, hes not intelligent at all.
Infact, when I'm having a bad day, I just think about how down and depressed he will be. This is a man that successfully manoeuvred to UK, then your insatiable greed & quest for unrecognized power brought you out to Kenya, like a rat lured out of its hole with a steamed cheese! I mean who does that???

  15. According to yesterday Vanguard, I will quote. Pls do good and read it up on Vanguard newspaper online.

"British High Commission in Nigeria has faulted reports that UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to the UK’s list of terrorist groups.

This is coming a day after it was reported that UK sought to exclude IPOB members who have committed human rights abuses from its asylum program.

Clarifying its message, British High Commission in Nigeria in a statement made available to newsmen opined: “We are aware of inaccurate reporting circulating in the media and online that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK’s list of terrorist groups or organisations banned under UK law. These reports are untrue. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not a proscribed organisation in the UK.

“The inaccurate reporting relates to the 13 April 2022 publication by the UK Government of a revised Country Policy and Information note (CPIN) on separatist groups in SE Nigeria, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). CPINs provide country of origin information (COl) and analysis of COI for use by UK Government decision-makers handling particular types of protection and human rights claims."

  16. About time too! I really hope this is true.

If not that b.u.hari is an effigy granting amnesty to terrorists, how would any group be so emboldened? If you fail to cut down or prune thorns early, it grows branches.

  18. My simple and short prayer this morning is for all persons and groups supporting and encouraging ALL terrorist organisations to receive the short end of the stick. Let them feel in every fibre of their being the agony that the innocent victims' families have felt. Let such wicked people including those granting them amnesty who will say "back to sender" receive a thousand fold of these declarations. So shall it be!
