  3. Yes, polygamy was instituted by the same tradition that inspired the bible which is unfortunately soaked in patriachy and misogyny. Less than 30% of the entire bible was inspired by the holy spirit. In fact, I respect my academic text books more sometimes.

    4. Men wrote the bible...even though ' inspired' by the Holy Spirit, there will always be the human factor, + human interpretation + human perspective...hence the bible is a book that has been used to suppress the female gender, justify the slave trade, justify white supremacy, et.al.... Read it with a completely open mind, if you must...

    5. Saphire, we certainly don't serve the same god. I serve the Father, His son Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit. I definitely do not serve a god that advocates abortion or premarital sex. Thanks for clarifying your stand publicly.

  5. To put it in context, it's laws on how to treat slaves.

If an Isrealite man marries a slave as first wife and decides to marry another woman (free born), he should not neglect the first wife, as per say she be slave b4 him marry am.

  6. Before we begin to argue over nothing.
    Here's the complete scripture.

7 “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. 8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself,[b] he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.(J) 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.

    Exodus 21:7-11

  7. A lot of people do not understand the meaning of the word 'Christians' sha.

  8. Stella please dont quote out of context. This was part of the law given in the old testament as it relates to marrying a SLAVE. Kindly read ftom verse 1 so you can understand it in the proper context. Christ came to abolish the law so we dont keep slaves any longer. This law is obsolete and does not apply to the new creation in Christ Jesus

    1. Tess, please do not lie against Christ.
Christ said that He did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

How some of your Christians lie with boldness is so disgusting.

    2. Bv Tess,
      Matthew 5:17 says
Do not think that I have come to abolish Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

      So please stop the lies.

    3. @anon 15:44, Christians are not under the law of Moses. Hence, those laws regarding polygamy does not apply to Christians.

    5. Anon 16:59, so Christians are bigger than Christ who said that He came to fulfill the laws of Moses and not to abolish them?

So Christians are bigger than God who said in the Bible that you should not remove a dot from the Bible or add any word to it?
So who are you as a Christian to remove a whole old testament from the Bible?

    6. They won't use this "abolish law" argument on tithing, but will use it on any other thing that doesn't suit their interpretation.

  13. This Polygamy matter we no fit debate am finish oo.

I think it is complex. This is because the wealthy households in the old and most parts of the new Testament Era had slaves before they became Christians.
Like someone commented earlier, some were even married to some of the slaves. I think that must have prompted that quote. In case they want to re-marry.

There are many laws in the Old Testament concerning Polygamy as it was common at the time. Nevertheless, having more than one wife at a time has always attracted nothing but trouble.
This is because God's original plan for mankind is monogamy.... to be with one woman at a time. Until death separates them (Genesis 2:23-24)
From Abraham's situation with Sarah and Hagar, Jacob to David...all witnessed firsthand the drama/trouble of having more than one wife/woman despite it being common at the time.

Howbeit, in this Era of Grace, we are no longer bound by the Mosaic Law.
According to John 3:16-18, anyone that believes in Christ as the Son of God and the Messiah is saved. There is no more need for the periodic killing of lambs for cleansing from sin.
Jesus has done that once and for all. All we need to do is simply believe in Him, receive Him into our lives and we are saved. (That is why it is the Good news).

This Grace Era came with some principles that people who believed in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Promised Messiah (Christians) are encouraged to live with.
    Some of these principles can be found in Mathew 19: 4-6, 19:9, Mark 10:5-9, 1st Timothy 3:2, 3:12, Romans 7:1-3, Titus 1:5-8, 1st Corinthians 6:16, 7: 1-5, 7:2, 7:39, 7:10, Hebrews 13:4, Ephesians 5:33, 5:31 etc...there are much biko.

One thing they (New Testament) have in common is the emphasis on 'one-man, one-woman' (God's original plan) staying faithful, honouring, and treating each other with kindness and respect (no domestic violence of any sort from both ends....husbands loving their wives as Christ loves the Church and treating them as the finer vessels. Wives reciprocating this love genuinely and respecting their husbands) etc.

Despite the above principles on marriage, It is noteworthy to state that it is not a do-or-die-thing. Paul, the writer of most of the New Testament, and a respected elder of the early Church must have perceived or been involved in settling marital disputes during his time that he gave the following advice, which I think sums it all up: 1st Corinthians 7: 27-28 NIV.

  14. Jesus said that Moses permitted them to do certain things like divorce and so on BECAUSE THEIR HEARTS WERE HARD;

Mark 10:4They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”
5“It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ a 7‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, b 8and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
