EkweremaduGATE - Ohanaeze Writes UK Embassy

The youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has again waded into the raging controversy over the detention of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice.

The couple are being held in the UK for charges bothering on alleged organ harvesting.

OYC had earlier urged for caution and an end to the social media trail of the Senator and now they have written an open letter to the UK Embassy, begging that at least the Senator’s wife be freed to enable her attend to their ailing daughter.

In the appeal made available to DAILY POST on Sunday June 26, 2022, the Ohanaeze youths said it was now clear that the Ekweremadus did not involve themselves in any untoward deal but had followed an established process to save the life of their daughter.

The letter of appeal was signed by Ohanaeze Youths President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and the Secretary-General, Comrade Obinna Achionye.

“Following more emerging revelations in the case involving the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, both true son and daughter of Igbo land, we find it expedient to make this open appeal to the UK Embassy in Nigeria.

“Contrary to earlier reports which flooded the media, it has become clear that the couple had no bad intention in mind.

“Having seen that they had no other intention rather than to save the life of their daughter, as nobody will sit by and watch their child die without making efforts, we deemed it necessary to make this appeal.

“We plead with the United Kingdom, through its Embassy here in Nigeria, to look into the implication of detaining the husband and the wife. We appeal for the release of one of them so the person can take care of the sick child who needs medical help urgently,” the group wrote.

They also slammed fifth columnists who they said had gone on to create pseudo accounts with the name of the alleged victim of organ harvesting, David Nwamini.

OYC said, “we observed that within the last 48 hours, no less than five fake Facebook accounts have been created with the profile of the alleged victim.

“This is no doubt the work of blackmailers as they have gone ahead to be making posts with the said unverified accounts. The posts contain spurious claims and allegations which are clearly the handiwork of political enemies, all aimed at bringing the Senator down.

“It is a matter of time and the identity of those behind this shall be unveiled if they fail to desist from their evil antics.

“They had earlier claimed that the boy in question is 15 years, but current revelations have proved otherwise. This is why we call for a thorough investigation.

“We urge the general public to discountenance those posts as the truth will surely prevail and Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the wife will come out of these allegations with their reputation unscathed.”

    2. Yeah, it is only fair that one of them is released preferably the mother so that she can attend to their sick daughter.

Their passports should be seized and their movement restricted pending further investigation.

And yes ' oyinbo people' are very sympathetic with issues of these nature. This is a life and death situation.

    4. Don’t be daft @anon 11:37 these people are wise and they have emotion. They think with their heads. Detaining the two of them might not be good for the sick child, so they can reason and release one to take care of the child. This country is family oriented and this email is a strong one. Don’t think you are always wise than the people that wrote this letter. So, yes they may consider releasing one to be with the child with some restrictions though.

  3. Ohanaeze for the elites only! Other sons and daughters of Igbo descent held captive in other cells and prisons all over the world who don't have a voice and "name" deserve to be incarcerated and killed, right?

    1. No Cynthia, they have to show solidarity. Even a dieing man need people around him before he's being hung.

If OYC didn't show concern, tomorrow you people will say Igbo don't love themselves and couldn't sympathize or show support for their own. Even if he's guilty, at least he deserves some sort of solidarity and support at the moment if not for anything for the failing health condition of their daughter. Is that too much to ask for that one of them be released to attend to her?

  8. I think one of them should be released. Preferably the wife so she can attend to the urgent medical need of their daughter. Saving the life of that lady should count first at this point in time.

    1. It depends on the charges. If they both really tried to falsify the info and harvest the organ of a minor then both need to say in jail. They should have thought of their daughter before committing the crime

I do think dude is an adult

    2. So she has been the one attending to the daughter all along till this fraudulent incident? Was it not recently that she and her husband traveled to join their daughter for the surgery? Stupid excuse.

    3. Anon 13:46, how do you think or reason? Wasn't it the daughter you are saying they should have thought of first made them took the said step? Are you sure you understand what you wrote before posting it.

Anon 13:54, wonderful?!!! So you live with them to know it was recently she is visiting her daughter. Maybe she would have come to you or shout it to the public whenever she's leaving the country to see her daughter.

    4. Eyah..
Men are so nice to a fault..
See how men are supporting that at least his wife should be released, meaning that the man can stay back in prison , and I'm sure the man would also agree to this.
Women won't see this sacrifice now, but common to cook and give the man peace they'll come up with different hashtag and excuses to justify their too much wahala,. Now they even go ahead to blame the victim "only you know where you met your wife" "you attract your kinds" "I'm sure you don't treat her with love that's why she is not submitting" "oga you have hand cook for yourself, please we need to raise men rightπŸ™„"

The same men that are willing to sacrifice themselves for ladies are not raised right bah?

Appreciate and show that man love today✌️

  11. Anon 17:40 they are NOT like every loving parents. Every normal loving parent feels for other people’s children not just their own biological children especially when elected to positions of public policy making..I read “ The trouble with Nigeria” by Achebe decades ago & like Fela’s songs it still describes the country till date. This silly group & folks like “Eesah the evil eyed” one on this blog neglect the real issues & play politics with every topic. This case is why governance & policy making is vital. In 2022 there is NO world class hospital in Nigeria & the president, senators, politicians travel for things that have become routine in most nations. Yet the people aren’t angry enough to discuss the real issues? This ohanaeze idiots have hungry relatives, some requiring transplants but are governed by sentiments. Tienubu, PMB, Jonathan, etc all travel for healthcare yet have enough in bullion vans to build a $100m hospital. It’s not more than that if you patner with the makers of the equipments! Two transplant surgeons can carry out over 500 per year on salaries less than what these morons have in their bank account for shopping & the masses aren’t angry that he is cutting corners just for his kid with taxpayer $?

Well I’m not familiar with the UK but America doesn’t run on emotions or sentiments so Pelosi, Kamala, Abbot or Pritzker etc will “die politically” if they travel for healthcare outside the US. An ignorant citizenry is as dangerous as the wicked rulers in Nigeria! Demand more from those in public office & stop asking the west to stoop down to the politics of personal pockets & cults of looted moneyed personalities like we have in Nigeria! Stop defending nonsense, pray for his daughter, the system will do their best. Btw this has been going on for months, it just came out so it has nothing to do with his comment on Peter Obi (8 years gov of Anambra) who was rightly sympathetic to him as they both belong to the Nigerian political establishment of not building public institutions they can patronize.
