CONFUSED ABOUT SERVING GOD AND MAMMON
Hello Stella, thank you for this great platform to share our thoughts.
Last Sunday chronicle about ancestral issue triggered me to share what I'm about to discuss.
I'm a believer of Christ and believe that I'm sent from above and not bounded by any thing especially when it comes to beliefs of the ancestors.
I came from a region( Ijaw by tribe, Arogbo in Ondo State) who believes in their deity (Egbesun) and strongly adhere to it's do's and don'ts. Thou I was not born or breed there, we've been oriented about this, precisely the don'ts since we were little but as little as I was then I've always says my opinions contrary to their beliefs like how can they reverence another god except GOD and y'all claim to be Believer of Christ.
I recently visited my Elder Sister and we got into discussion with her Husband and this Topic was brought, again I stood my ground that I never and will never believe in their deity, believe me this people attend Church and the Husband is the type that scabbash in tongues...

Now this are the few don'ts especially that concerns me
* They believe seeing a dead Lion will bring negative occurrence or death
* They believe engaging in *Oral S#x* will bring negative occurrence like Insanity
* They also used to frown against Husband sucking their wife's breast during copulation but because of popular demand by the citizens , one of the previous King made sacrifice to their gods to allow them engage in the act
* They also believe that their gods doesn't permit the husband sucking a breastfeeding wife in an act of copulation....
Now, my questions is that do all Ijaw Nations or other tribes believe in all this archaic gods?
what's your say generally on Oral S#x? I'm a curious being and adventurous in nature and may find myself doing things that's is not contrary to the will of God.
Like I don't know why they so put so much fuse about all this, how can you serve Mammon and God together?.

Poster I'm also from the ijaw clan,grand bonny ro be precise and all you stated are wash. As far as you do not worship their deity or pour libation to it,and strong belief in your God and hold him strong, nothing will happen to you. DeleteFlash back to secondary school days, one of our church members who is Yoruba and married to an Igbo lady. During bible study discussion session, he said that in his place it is a taboo for a man to sleep over at his wife's family house. He took his wife and kids to his wife's village during one of the Christmas holiday. As they got there, he planned to return back to base that same day but his in-laws begged him to stay back. He pondered on this matter and was asking himself questions. He said he asked himself if he has ever heared his village people talk about any consequence of sleeping over in ones wives place. It's been; 'it is not good for a man to sleep over at his in-laws place' but nobody has pointed out that the gods strikes one dead for sleeping over. So he finally convinced himself and slept over and discovered that nothing happened. It is because they believe that you are degrading yourself as a man if you spend the night at your in-laws place that's all. He says; the only time you should be afraid is if it is said that the person would die or run mad or any other bad thing will occur in the persons life.
So poster what are the consequences one may face for disobeying this traditions you listed here?

ReplyDeleteBecause Mammon in the Bible represents a demon or a spirit of wealth that is not healthy. And in your narrative you didn't mention anything to do with money. So that should be changed first and foremost.
Your answer lies in the study of the word. Choose one. You cannot serve 2 masters. Believe in one and go all out. And don't dabble into the other. You can't be one leg in and one leg out.
Bible says in Revelations 3 if you want to be hot be hot if you want to be cold be cold. But you can't sit on the fence. Choose one.
Traditions are peer pressure from the dead...If you don't believe or abide in it then it does not affect you...However if you do and practice it and then you want to renege on it then there will be a huge repercussion.. I really wonder. It’s like people can’t make up their minds. They choose which ones to accept and deny the remaining. I actually discussed this with my sister yesterday and she is of the opinion that Nigerians will follow anything to avoid death and/or suffering.
