Sunday In House Gists - Working With A Boss Who Does Not Pay Salaries / Toxic Environment

This is a lot of topics in one...

Have you ever worked for a Boss who promises heaven on Earth but ends up not paying salaries and giving excuses?

How did you cope? Did you resign or you are still because you cant find work elsewhere? Did you eventually get all the monies owed you or you left empty handed? Did you sue?

Have you ever worked in a toxic environment? or you left? How toxic was this toxic? Can you explain to us? Did your Boss try to get down with you and when you refused all hell broke loose at your work place? Did you agree to it and all hell still broke loose? LOL

Was there a confrontation with anyone or you left the company with your 'tail' between your legs?

Lets gist!

  4. Some bosses are wicked. .
The money they have been deducting from my salary as pension, he never remitted even 1naira to my pension account. I have resigned.

I have handed him over to God, he will pay dearly for it. I worked my asxx out for that company and they chose to pay me back with wickedness.

    2. Please don’t let it slide. Send a mail to PENCOM with the company’s name and evidence of monthly deduction (pay slip and salary credit alert), I promise you they will take up the case.

You can also choose to be anonymous if you like, just the company’s name. They will go and audit their books

    1. He's not a Christian and he's not under any obligation to give during festivities. If he does, it out of his benevolence.

    3. And who said bosses are obligated to share things to staff at any time? Did u sign any contract to that effect? U have entitlement mentality. We seem not to realize all those gifts employers give us at festive seasons are out of their own benevolence. See mouth like Dangote this and that. As if he owes u. It’s cos u got a job there.

  7. Worked in a company where we were not paid salaries for 8months. Yes eight months. The fear of getting another job if I resign made me stay. Twice we were asked to sign an understanding to forfeit two months out of the eight months salary owned. We did and 6 mothhs will be paid at once and the owing starts afresh. Staff stayed and still staying because the company has staff quarters which they gave out to staff. Rent is deducted monthly when salary is paid,
Notwithstanding the non payment of salaries, staff were witch hunting each other to retain their accomodation or get favour from directors who are paying themselves but refused to pay other category of staff. Married women doing all sorts there. It is difficult to see staff buy new cloths or shoe in that company except some married women and young ladies that have helpers.. For the seven years I stayed in that company, Non bought a car even amonsgt the directors. Majority of staff who are not staying in staff quarters live in the suburbs..The company has one old staff bus. The driver of the bus and conductor who are both staff carry passengers in the morning while going to work and after close of work, use the money they collect from passengers to fuel the car and do minor repairs.More than 6years I worked in that company no promotion. Never bought any new cloth except okirika. God knows I am not lying. One day my help came. Had a misunderstanding with one of my colleague over something I sincerely knew nothing about and she reported me to her male friend who is our MD. I was asked to resign volunteering. Oh. I cried as if I will die. I begged and was asked to go for three months suspension without pay. Me that is use to not collecting salary. That is how I left happily. I called everyone I knew to tell what happened. Two weeks interval I got a new job that pays me 4tunes my salary with other incentives. The salary comes every 27th of the month. It's been three years. I became a proud landlady October last year. My car loading first quarter of this year. I called that lady that made me get the suspension December last year and gave her 100k as Christmas gift. Thanked her for allowing God use her. It can only be God. What God cannot do does not exist

  8. I used to think that Nigerian bosses are wicked. Until I became an employer myself in Nigeria. People want to collect salaries with no requisite output. I talked tire. Every improvement is short-lived. Excuses. Excuses. Excuses. I had to reorganize and let people go to keep my sanity. I used to be an employee myself but never in any country have I seen the level of nonchalant attitude as witnessed in Nigeria.

  9. I don't understand why people would remain in a job when they are not paid. If it were me, that first month I will resign! Is it not better you're hustling for yourself than going to an job you're not paid your salary as at when due?

If people resigned as they don't see their salary, these employers would step up.

  10. My story. I am a lawyer, the first principal in Chambers paid me 20k as far back as 2016,he wouldn't even let me take on cases on my own and he wanted me to work Mondays to Saturday,I refused and never went on Saturday. I was only able to manage because I was single and still staying with my parents. I got married and moved to another state,my principal there was paying me 30k and would still owe us(I and the secretary) for months. The pay was epileptic and I could hardly do anything for myself. I worked with him for 3years and was always worried if this was how I would continue surviving, till when?. Hubby was also managing so I struggled to support the home. January 2022,I wrote because I was dealing with alot in my marriage and I honestly wanted to change location and separate from.my husband as I was depressed but I didn't have any hope of anything better back home as I was pregnant and would be a burden to my parents. Events made I and hubby separate and I went back home, worried sick about the hospital bills and life after but God came through. After I put to bed(without any dime from hubby) I applied and got invited for an interview just a month after I had birthed. I got the job and my salary was 200k!!. Hmmm,I moved from 30k to that,God is faithful. My former boss is still owing me arrears of 3months and has refused to pay me but I told God to handle him. I am looking forward to growing in this job, start earning in foreign currency, take good care of my kids and parents (especially my mom) for their sacrifices, have a place of my own and buy a car all by God's grace. I am indeed grateful. Stella I had like a post to tell my story, though not complete but I am still in awe of hoe God didn't put me to shame. I remember he gave me a word(through my sister's) in January 2022,he said he will wipe away my tears. I didn't know how that would be possible then but God did it.

  11. As a private school teacher, my boss will always give excuse why there's no money to pay salaries, he does this whenever schools are going on holiday. We were not paid November and December salary. That's how we've been begging to survive.

  12. I worked in an organization that took joy in delaying staff salaries. We would work for 8 months with no pay...on the 9th month, they would pay us two months salary and the cycle continues.

The MD was extremely corrupt and greedy. Salaries will be delayed for months and you will still be expected to work full hours. MD will be buying houses worth millions of dollars and be sponsoring his numerous girlfriends on foreign trips. If you are bold enough to complain about your salary, HR will set up a disciplinary panel for you and accuse you of insubordination. And to think that this HR was an elderly female lawyer who claimed to be a Pastor in a popular Pentecostal church.

You cant get promoted, no matter how hardworking you are, unless you are close to the corridors of power. Staff could barely afford to change their clothes or send their children to school, because they were constantly in debt.

Before you leave your current job to a new place, ask around. Its not all that glitters that is gold. Please be wary of IEL in Port Harcourt. If I give the full name of the organization, Stella may not post, so let me just give the initials and save someone's life. I wish someone had told me about this, so I wouldn't have spent years of my life in tears.

Mama Stellz, please approve this post.
