Businessman IVD Reportedly Remanded In Prison Over Wife's Death

A Lagos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 ordered the remand of popular auto dealer, Ikechukwu Daryl Ogbonna, aka IVD, over the death of his wife, Abimbola Martins-Ogbonna ....

Magistrate Adebayo Kafayat Tella made the order following advice by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Lagos State, which indicted Ogbonna for involuntary mansla¥ghter.
Reading out the DPP Advice, Tella said the Defendant should be arraigned before the Lagos High Court.

She, therefore, remanded Ogbonna in custody pending the filing of information against him and his arraignment.

Defence counsel, Abubakar Yesufu, however, prayed the court to release the defendant based on earlier bail conditions granted him. But Tella held that she lacked the jurisdiction to entertain a case of involuntary manslaughter, hence all bail applications should be presented before the high court.
She then adjourned the case till March 7, 2023.

It would be recalled that 37-year-old IVD and Abimbola had been married for 16 years with the union blessed with five children. The marriage, however, was filled with disagreement and alleged domestic violence.

On October 12, 2022, there was a fIre incident at their Lekki home and Abimbola was caught in the inferno. She was rushed to a hospital where she died on October 15, as a result of the injuries she sustained.

But, the deceased’s family, while demanding justice, accused the police of cover-up and intimidation, and attempted to force the family into an out-of-court settlement with Ogbonna and also drop charges against him. The family also alleged that the police had changed Ogbonna’s charges from ‘manslaughter’ to ‘negligence’ to make it easily bailable.

    1. Let's be truthful. Women can also be abusers. If she set herself on fire in a bid to burn the house and wanted to burn him too, why should he be charged because he escaped?

  2. Couples, before it degenerates to this level, do not take advise from Facebook people and old school pastors. Just go ur separate ways. Just go!

Now one is dead and one may spend a good number of years in prison. How does this favour any of them?

  3. Long overdue. Such unfortunate incident happened, and he decides to rub it on the faces of the truly bereaved by pitching tents with the clout chaser Blessing and making silly comments online about looking for a wife. Such insensitivity. Waiting for Blessing CEO to pull strings and release him. Time to show how connected she is since he has become her favourite person.

  8. Judge you lack jurisdiction but you’re remanding a human being in jail for more than a month
That’s not justice. Jail hearings should be swift to minimize this nonsense

  9. I thought Blessing CEO has already judged the case and acquitted him.
I think the only advice we need to be giving anybody that's in a violent relationship and marriage is to be buying his/her casket in advance if they don't want to leave to live.
As for me, i don't need anybody's advice or opinion before i leave any form of abusive relationship.
