The Federal Government has approved the appointment of doctors, nurses, and other clinical healthcare workers as contract staff after attaining their compulsory retirement age or years. The government, however, said the appointed contract staff would be on the same salary scale level that they retired on if they desire and deserve it.

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday received the support of 107 ex-senators drawn from the All Progressives Congress who described the allegation of certificate forgery as the handiwork of the opposition. Citing global examples, they expressed optimism that Tinubu would emerge victorious like former President of the United States, Barack Obama and current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Ex-Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung has claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari is living in regret after his allies “dragged his name in the mud.” Dalung, who served under Buhari’s government, also said the Buhari administration failed to fulfil the promises made to Nigerians during the 2015 campaign.

. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has confirmed the return of fuel subsidy under President Bola Tinubu. Festus Osifo, National President of PENGASSAN, said due to the cost of crude oil in the international market and the exchange rate, the government still pays subsidies on petrol.

. The Federal Government has set a target of five million jobs for youths in five years through the N-Power, which is undergoing a review. The plan is to create a million jobs each year, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu has said. According to her, the government is reviewing the programme to restore confidence in it.

. The Israel-Palestine conflict is taking tolls on the Middle East. No fewer than 1,000 deaths have been recorded on both sides since the Hamas’ launched a surprise attack on Israel at the weekend. The Israeli government declared war on Sunday, giving the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for its attack from the Gaza Strip.

. Two communities, Ovonum and Ofatura, in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State, have been locked in communal strife, which has left many dead and over 300 houses destroyed. The conflict, which was caused by a dispute over a parcel of land at their farm areas, has left thousands of people homeless, following the destruction of residential houses and farmlands.

. Men of the Edo State Police Command have arrested one Felix Iloghevbo for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old daughter. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. He said the suspect committed the crime on September 19, 2023, in Idokpa community, Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the State.

The Defence Headquarters, on Sunday, said troops of the armed forces have, in the last one week, neutralised 31 terrorists and apprehended 81 others in various operations across North East, North Central and North West. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, said this in a statement in Abuja.

-. Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has regained his freedom from the Beninese authorities. The embattled agitator said on Sunday he was now legally free to leave Cotonou, capital of the Benin Republic, to Nigeria and other countries.
