EX Anambra Gov Obi Says He Is Not Desperate To Be President + Knocks Govt For Ukraine Grains

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Tuesday, insisted that he was not desperate to be Nigeria’s President, but that he desired the country to work.
He also said it was a shame for Ukraine, a war-torn country, to donate grains to Nigeria when Niger State alone can feed the whole of Africa.

Obi spoke in Abuja while reacting to his award as the ‘Leadership Politician of the Year 2023’ at the annual Leadership Conference and Awards.
“I am not desperate to be president, I am desperate to make Nigeria work,” Obi stated while adding that young Nigerians should be productively engaged in order to eliminate poverty and crime,” Obi said.

He also said it was a shame for Ukraine, a war-torn country, to donate grains to Nigeria when Niger State alone can feed the whole of Africa.

“We have no reasons to be poor. Poverty should never be part of our lives especially in the North,” Obi said, adding that with over 7,442,00 square meters of land, Nigeria can feed Africa.
“Ukraine has no reason to give us grain. Niger State can feed Nigeria, Africa with over 73, 000 square meters of land.
“The two biggest states in the North-East, Borno with over 70,000 square metres of land and Taraba, are four times the size of Belgium that is exporting food. There is so much we can do in the country if we have the right leadership.
“The more you remove people out of poverty, the more you have fewer criminals,” Obi pointed out.

  3. I don't like playing around facts like Obi did here. For well over 20 years, Ukraine has been a major supplier of grains worldwide. The way Benue state is the food basket of Nigeria, is the way Ukraine is the food basket of the world.

Till today, Ukraine supplies grains to a lot of African countries and Nigeria is not an exception. The war in Ukraine is localized to just a region and most of the country are living a passably normal life.

    1. Supplier- business/profit making
Donate- non profit.. because the people cannot afford it.

      There is a difference Bros

    2. They can supply and donate because they properly utilize their resources. It's not a shame to help someone in need but it's a shame for Nigeria because we have more than enough resources, if properly utilized, we won't be needing donations, economic crises or not.

  4. he is making sense
“The more you remove people out of poverty, the more you have fewer criminals,”
is hunger that is making so many people to cheat and steal
imagine you have enough to eat, money to afford enough, you will not have such time to steal or do some evil stuffs.

Provide employment and see how alot of crime will reduce.

  5. God will help us. The grain received is help from above and we cannot reject it. My only prayer is that the food reach the right place.

  6. Sometimes when we speak the truth like this, we're being termed haters. I think very soon I'll be refraining from commenting on issues about this administration, for it's draining seeing the same people you're fighting for their welfare turn around to attack and shut you up.

We all want Nigeria to work hence we're not happy at what's going on at the moment.

If I can't be sincere enough to criticize you when you're wrong, then I can never support you.

There are some gifts that's depict disrespect and that's exactly what the Ukraine grain symbolizes.

Tomorrow, Ghana will troll us with that. It's so shameful if truth must be told but then sentiment will becloud our sense of reasoning and judgment.

  8. Nigerian must have come to their aid for them to reach out. Is not better they swallow their pride? I see no shame in that when you know that the hardship in the country is unbearable to some.

Some of you saying that is a shameful thing that Nigeria collected the food are here complaining and begging for ' give away '. Hope we overcome the situation soon.

    3. @ 13:25 is you and your family that is coming here to beg money for a living! Some of us are creating jobs globally!!! We will not run out of Nigeria or Africa. We keep thinking of how, we can create jobs across Africa 🌍. We have lived across continents; and Peter Obi is very correct! How long will Nigeria continue to beg! When God has blessed us with land, natural resources and all good things to make Africa a glorious paradise.

  9. Since we like to compare in bad things,.

How many countries doing well have they DONATED to? Have they donated to US, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, and France?

If they've not, then it is a shameless thing, it proves Nigeria is in a worst condition than the war ravaging their country
