ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike

he Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, had reiterated that it would declare a nationwide strike anytime soon following the federal government’s refusal to meet its demands despite consistent appeals.

While addressing journalists on Tuesday during a news conference at the University of Lagos, the coordinator of the Lagos zone of the union, Prof. Adelaja Odukoya, said the union was fast losing patience over government’s insensitivity to the plight of its members and that of the public universities.

Odukoya said the only saving grace that could stop them from embarking on the proposed industrial action is for the federal government to do the needful fast

  2. Oh no. When will Nigeria get better please?
The same problems since my childhood have not yet been resolved. Petrol scarcity, no electricity, no good road, security, health, education. Please which one has ever been sorted out since all these issues started donkey years ago.
How do western countries do it please? How do they resolve their issues and move to other new ones maybe. But here we remain on the exact very same problems without resolution. HOW???

  3. We are still facing this problem in 2024. Hmmm, naija, which way?
Well, undergraduates as well as teenagers in that country should be encouraged to go into skills acquisition. If my kids were in naija I would empower them to go learn skills.

Gone are those days when we would study certain courses that you may not use in future.
Courses like Psychology, Philosopy, Sociology, Geography/Geology, Library Science etc. I do not to intend to downgrade these courses but in reality where would you fit in with these courses in a place like naija? Except, obviously you have the intention of relocating abroad. Let us be reasonable while helping them to fill their jamb forms.

I tell the youngsters back home to go to the university to study good courses but learn skills as well, simultaenously.
Reality over passion. Yes, kids should go for courses they have a passion for but will that passion pay your bills in the future?

The world is a global market now, with almost all countries leaning towards what skills you have. My nieces and nephews are ALL learning skills as they attend school. One of them is now a make-up artist and recently got to work with certain actors in the industry. One of my nephews makes shoes and his instagram page is hot!

The Nigerian government can take forever with their ASUU whatever, but while waiting do your kids/wards have anything to occupy them while making them financially strong?
This is one topic we should discuss with them ASAP if you haven't.

Over here you see some kids buying their first homes as early as 23, no liability to their families, I want to see this happen back home too.

  5. If you’re going to strike then strike when it’s most painful, your negotiating power is increased.

Garbage collection workers will only strike in the heat of summer. There is nothing painful like garbage piling up on the streets in the summer heat, the stench alone can kill. So if these folks gonna strike then strike when it will be the most painful
