CHRONICLE OF A MARRIED MAN

In as much as we need a sound sleep at night after the hard day's job, I think it is not a wise decision to put off our phones before going to sleep. There might be a midnight emergency which a simple phone call would solve.

My phone don't go off no matter what except it is stolen and that has only happened twice.. In my adult life I can count how many times my phone has gone off. I make sure I charge my phone against all odds.

I have a solar power, a generator plus the epileptic government light.
I even take my powerbank to where they charge with money if all other means of generating power fails. In addition to all of the above, I have two active phone lines at all times.
If one network provider is having issues, the other one will work. This way I'm always reachable. The last time I was not reachable for a few hours was when I lost my phone. I quickly got a small phone and an emergency sim card before I retrieved my lines and got a browsing phone.

An acquaintance recently lost all his wares to demolition as a result of phone lines being switched off. He has this habit of putting off his phones when going to bed until around 7:am the next morning. A businessman for that matter. As a business owner, you should be accessible 24hrs.

The bulldozers rammed into their line of shops around 5:am of that day, a Sunday, for reasons best known to the government. The few shop owners who were reached on phone by the some boys who sleep in their shops came and salvaged what they could but my friend was not reachable. By the time they got through to him around 7:am, his shop was gone. This is just one out of many instances where phone calls and messages proved to be very crucial.
Let's do better pls.

  2. I am guilty!.
I put my phone off most times or even on DND, as I prefer texts over phone calls. Even when a call comes in, I typically wait until the phone stops ringing, then chat then up on WhatsApp. I recognize that my preference for texting may come across as inefficient or even impersonal at times, but it is the communication method I am most comfortable with.

May God no allow us lost things as a result of this.🙏

  5. @Chronicle of a married man, in addition to your write-up; it's advisable to recharge your line before bedtime in case of emergency.

I really feel for your friend 🥺. They should have reached out to someone who stays close to him, maybe, just maybe it would have been averted...

  9. This is so true. Phones should not be switched off except in exceptional cases of no light and you don't have solar or gen.

I pray God replenishes the man and I know he has learnt his lessons

    1. Stop switching off your phone when going to bed, some calls are either to save you, or you save someone's life.✌️

    2. I stopped taking unknown callers too, they can leave a message. There are just too many scams and AI has changed the scam game, they can duplicate ppl voice now. And I also sleep with my phone on airplane mode.

  14. My mummy is sitting comfortably on this sit, we've told her countless times to no avail, she said some abokis always disturbed her at night speaking hausa language, that if she wakes up during the night, she won't be able to sleep again till daybreak and it's affecting her health.
I also know a lot of people that don't pick unknown numbers, and it's not as if they're wealthy, that someone will beg them for money, the only time my phone will be off is when I don't see light to charge it.

    1. Not picking unknown numbers is not because of begging money oh. I stopped picking unknown numbers because of spiritual attacks and monitoring but will text you immediately it stops ringing to text me cos I can't take calls where I am.

But now, my business line is accessible 24/7

  19. My phone is always on airplane mode when I am asleep, and it will stay that way. There was a time when ppl had to go to the post office and send a telegram to their loved ones in cases of emergencies and they lived. There was a time when a telephone was a device kept in the living room that you had to share with everyone else in the household. Great that we have cellphones, and they have their usefulness but there were a whole millennia of human life that existed without them and life went on just the same.

  20. Our house burnt down in the middle of the night, we lost two siblings in that fire and everything we ever owned, we escaped with just the clothes on our back, infact our dad escaped with boxers, neighbors had to give him decent clothes to wear. We a r a large family, we had to be scattered for the night, some of us went to our aunt’s house to pass the remainder of the night, unfortunately, she switches off her fone, we suffered bfr we got them to open their gate. We knocked for several several minutes, almost an hour before her husband was bold enough to come check who it was, cos like i said, it was middle of the night. That was how we got a roof over our head for the night.

Fast forward, my neighbor/friend started labor unexpectedly around 3 am, she called my line because no matter what, after our fire incidence, i dnt turn off my fone. She called me to please come help her, before i wore my dress and rush to her house, she had given birth, and her husband wasnt around. Just her toddler kids and her maid. That was how i rushed to call the doctor that lived 3 houses away. Imagine, if i had switched off my fone, that lady would have been helpless.

In all, i advise ppl to leave their fones off, you can either save a life, or urs would be saved. There are situations that if they happen because ur fone was switched off, you might never ever forgive urself.

    1. Sorry about the fire. I hate learning that anyone lost their home or loved one in a fire.

Honestly, every woman who plans to eventually give birth should learn how to birth on their own and what to do just in case it comes to that, also baby cpr and first aid. Glad you were available but believe me that if you were not, her mother instinct would have kicked in and she would have done everything. Glad you were there though.

  21. I agree, my phone is on at all times, but it's mostly on silent because of my kids. Even if you have an emergency at midnight, you really can't do anything till morning. So if rather put it on silent and sleep well
