Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has said it is illegal for properties to be seized, revoked, or sealed solely on account of failure to pay ground rent. An unspecified number of people have reportedly lost their lives in a flood that swept through Mokwa town, headquarters of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. Residents reported that the road linking the northern and southern parts of Nigeria through Mokwa has also been cut off by the flood.

Rivers State Police Command said its men have neutralised a notorious kidnapper and murder suspect identified as David Uzoma Kamalu, during a raid on his hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Government Area of the state. The police said the dare-devil miscreant who was responsible for various high-profile crimes against innocent citizens, including robberies on the East-West Road was killed when he and his gang opened fire on operatives who raided his camp.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Thursday, affirmed the election of Monday Okpebholo as Edo State governor. A three-member panel of the court led by Mohamed Danjuma unanimously ruled in Mr Okpebholo’s favour, affirming the decision of the lower Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which earlier validated the governor’s victory in the 21 September 2024 election.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that he is building a strong and united opposition coalition.
Atiku said the coalition will challenge the excesses of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Posting on his Facebook page, Atiku assured that the opposition coalition will rescue Nigeria.
According to the former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, the coalition will ensure Nigerians freely choose their leaders.
He wrote: “We are building a strong, united opposition coalition — one that will challenge the excesses of this administration, restore accountability, and return government to the people.
“We will protect the right of every Nigerian to freely choose their leaders, and we will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress.
“We are here to rescue Nigeria. And we will not stop until that goal is achieved.”
Atiku, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and others are spearheading the opposition coalition.
