Ezekiel was brought before the court on seven charges related to conducting foreign exchange transactions without the required licence. According to the prosecution, in June 2023, the defendant negotiated a foreign exchange transaction worth $52,895 with one Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke without being an authorised foreign exchange dealer appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution to urge the court to remand him in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility pending trial. However, the defence counsel informed the court that he had filed a bail application dated February 28, 2025, citing the defendant's two ill children who rely on him for care.
The prosecution opposed the bail application, stating that the defendant had previously evaded service of the charge and still had a subsisting arrest warrant against him. Justice Aneke reserved ruling on the bail application until May 9, 2025, and temporarily handed the defendant over to his counsel.
The EFCC alleged that Ezekiel and Eezee Global Concepts engaged in several unauthorized foreign exchange transactions, including deals worth $70,000 and $18,775. They were also accused of failing to submit mandatory declarations of their financial activities to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) on multiple occasions.
