 French media conglomerate Canal+ has officially acquired full ownership of MultiChoice Group, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, in a landmark $3 billion (approx. 55 billion rand) deal. The acquisition, which gives Canal+ the remaining 55% stake it did not previously own, was approved by South Africa’s Competition Tribunal on Wednesday, July 23.


The North central geopolitical zone, which has been agitating for the chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC), may have its wish today, it was learnt last night. In the APC zoning arrangement, Northcentral was allotted the chairmanship seat, which was occupied by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who led the party to the 2023 presidential election victory.

 Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said yesterday that coalition leaders will fully support the African Democratic Congress’ eventual presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. Amaechi stated this on a day the ADC said policies being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration have failed to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

 President Bola Tinubu has asked the National Assembly to approve an additional $347 million external loan under the 2025–2026 borrowing plan. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read a letter containing Tinubu’s request during Wednesday’s plenary.

 The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has berated leaders of the party for defecting to a “party that has no office.” Speaking at the ongoing Consultative Conference of PDP Founding Fathers and Stakeholders in Abuja, Governor Mohammed also warned that it is not right for leaders of the PDP to claim membership of two parties.

. Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has launched a scathing attack on the Federal Government, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of weaponising state institutions to stifle democracy. Lamido made the remarks during an interactive session with journalists in Kano, where he was questioned about his political position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed three teenagers dead after they reportedly got drowned in a river at Jinkiri Village, Bauchi Local Government Area. The command’s spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday.

 The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has changed the venue of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, announced this in a terse statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. Morka said that the meeting, earlier planned to hold at the party’s national secretariat on Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, would now hold at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

 Some angry residents of Sowo Village blocked the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway to protest the killing of four pupils of Iddo Primary School, Kobape, Ogun State, in a road crash that occurred on Wednesday. This comes barely 48 hours after a motorcyclist and his passenger were crushed to death at the Siun junction of the same expressway.

A fresh wave of controversy has erupted over the involvement of former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
It was revealed that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was tricked into joining the opposition coalition.

Currently, there are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could emerge as a key contender for the ADC coalition’s presidential ticket, following hints that he would contest in 2027

    Addonbiliv former Presidential Aspirant P O could be tricked. He's too Intelligent for such.
