Former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu has admitted that the infamous “Villa rat invasion” story from 2017 was a deliberate fabrication crafted to distract the public from concerns about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health.

He made the disclosure in his newly released book ' Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience.
In Chapter 10, titled “Rats, Spin and All That”, he explained that
''After Buhari returned from nearly three months of treatment in the UK, the Presidency announced he would be working from home.'
“I wanted the discussion to shift... to any other issue besides the president’s health.”
